IN THE NEWS

Bachelor in Paradise lives on. Warner Bros. TV’s investigation of the incident between cast members Corinne Olympios and DeMario Jackson, which shut down production of the ABC series, is complete. According to a statement from Warner Bros., it concluded that “the tape does not support any charge of misconduct by a cast member. Nor does the tape show, contrary to many press reports, that the safety of any cast member was ever in jeopardy.” An ABC spokesperson said, “We appreciate the swift and complete investigation by Warner Bros. into allegations of misconduct on the set of Bachelor in Paradise. Given the results, the series will resume production and will air this summer on ABC.”

Soledad O’Brien inked a new multi-year deal to remain as a correspondent with HBO’s Real Sports. EP Joe Perskie noted that O’Brien “has delivered as a unique voice for the Real Sports franchise.”

ION Media is acquiring broadcast stations in St. Louis, Columbia and Boise, expanding the company’s footprint to 63 stations in 58 of the largest U.S. markets. Said Brandon Burgess, Chairman and CEO, “These three acquisitions will add 5 million viewers to our networks’ audience reach.”

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will present the 2017 International Emmy Founders Award to Kevin Spacey. Spacey will accept the award at the 45th International Emmy Awards gala on Monday, November 20 in New York City.

After years of defending cable’s near monopoly to hang on to subscribers, MoffettNathanson Research’s Craig Moffett said in a report that the market is now “arguably too complacent about cord cutting. He added that the 2.5% drop in video subscriptions in Q1 is “likely to get worse before it gets better,” noting that operators face heavy competition from live streaming services like YouTubeTV and Hulu, that offer fewer channels for lower prices. The shift from one of the most respected cable industry analysts contributed to a drop in cable stocks, with Comcast down 3.4%, Charter down 2.2% and Centurylink down 2.6% in Tuesday afternoon trading.
