RATINGS
Republicans and Democrats might spar over who came out ahead during former FBI director James Comey’s testimony on Thursday, but one sure winner was CBS’s Late Show. The talker earned a 2.8/7 HH rating in early numbers, with its biggest overnight rating since Stephen Colbert took over as host in September 2015. That’s up 65% versus last year and up 27% from the prior first-run Thursday show.
The Comey hearing was also a boon to cable news, which pulled in almost 9 million viewers across Fox News, MSNBC and CNN from 10a-1p. FNC was first in viewers with 3.1 million, followed by CNN (3.05 million) and MSNBC (2.72 million). CNN topped the news demo with 1.02 million A25-53;w MSNBC was second with 630,000, and Fox grabbed 438,000.
In primetime cable news Thursday, Fox News had 3.18 million total viewers and 667,000 A25-54; MSNBC drew 2.75 million viewers and 757,000 in the demo, and CNN grabbed 1.71 million viewers and 601,000 among A25-54.
Through Friday’s Game 4 on ABC, the NBA Finals is averaging a total live audience of 19.8 million viewers (TV plus streaming), making it the most-watched series since 1998.
AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead returned for season 3 on Sunday to 4.7 million viewers, 2.7 million A25-54 and 2.4 million A18-49, according to Nielsen Live+3 numbers, making it the #3 series on cable in 2017, after The Walking Dead and Talking Dead.
Spanish-language Estrella TV announced that its KRCA-62 TV channel in Los Angeles had the #2 most viewed newscast during the 11p hour regardless of language during May sweeps.

Rosemary Ravinal joined Univision Communications Inc. as Vice President of Entertainment and Consumer Public Relations. Most recently, Ravinal was a senior counselor on Hispanic business strategy for Toyota Motors North America at Republica, the Miami-based multicultural marketing agency, and was Vice President and department head of the agency’s public relations and content communications practice.
IN MEMORIAM
Actress Glenne Headly died June 8. She was 62. In addition to theater and film roles, Headly was nominated for an Emmy for Lonesome Dove, and was in production for Hulu series Future Man when she passed away.
Actor Adam West died June 9 after a short battle with leukemia. He was 88. Best known as Batman in the campy 1966-68 series, West more recently voiced the mayor of Quahog on Family Guy. “Adam West exemplified heroism,” tweeted film Batman Ben Affleck. “Kind, funny and an all around great guy. Thank you for showing us all how it’s done.”
