PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
 
National Geographic and Nike Inc. announced the documentary Breaking2 (working title), chronicling the journey three of the world’s most elite distance runners to break the two-hour marathon barrier. National Geographic Studios, in association with production house Dirty Robber, will produce the film. Breaking2 will have its broadcast premiere this September on NatGeo in the US and Europe and be made available globally on digital platforms.
 
Leslie Greif & Thinkfactory Media partnered with Grammy winner Desmond Child and songwriter/producer Andreas Carlsson to produce a limited series about the late boy band impresario Lou Pearlman. The trio have the the rights to the Vanity Fair article “Mad About The Boys” written by Bryan Burrough (published November 2007) and the crime-thriller The Hit Charade by Tyler Gray (published November 11, 2008 by HarperCollins), upon which the television event series will be based.
 
 
NEW & RETURNING SERIES
 
NBC real estate and design show Open House will make its mid-season debut June 17 featuring guest hosts including celebrity designer Nate Berkus; talent from Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise; Top Chef judge Gail Simmons; and People magazine and Entertainment Weekly’s editorial director Jess Cagle.
 
“Throwdown Thursdays” are back on MTV with the season 9 premiere of freestyle improve Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out, featuring special guest captain Chance the Rapper on Thursday, June 29 at 11p.
 
TLC is taking a fresh look at marriage on The Spouse House, a 10-ep series that follows 14 singles who each want nothing more than to find their true love and spend the rest of their lives together. Series premieres Sunday, July 9 at 10p.
 
The second season of truTV’s Adam Ruins Everything debuts July 11 at 10p, featuring Adam Conover tackling topics including childbirth, weight loss, the economy, dating, the suburbs, hospitals, college, science, conspiracy theories, fine art, wellness, and things we learned in school.

Second down the aisle in Hallmark Channel’s annual June Weddings programming event, with new original nuptial-themed movie premieres every Saturday throughout the month, is the Saturday, June 10, debut of The Perfect Bride. The Wedding March 2: Resorting to Love premieres Saturday, June 17 at 9p; My Favorite Wedding premieres Saturday, June 24, at 9p.
 
Bravo Media’s Inside the Actors Studio, hosted by James Lipton welcomes Scarlett Johansson to the stage on Thursday, June 22 at 8p.

The Telemundo Station Group will dispatch six journalists to Russia to deliver special coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017, which begins on Saturday, June 17 and concludes Sunday, July 2.

The 71st Annual Tony Awards, airing Sunday, June 11 at 8p on CBS, will feature performances by the casts of 2017 Tony-nominated shows including Bandstand, Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, Falsettos, Groundhog Day The Musical, Hello, Dolly!, Miss Saigon, and additional performances by Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr. and the Radio City Rockettes.
 
Turner announced Monty Williams will be the recipient of the inaugural Sager Strong Award at the first-ever NBA Awards, airing Monday, June 26 at 9p on the network.

GOING GLOBAL
 
MGM Worldwide Television Distribution announced French television distributor TF1 acquired rights to Steve Harvey’s Funderdome ahead of its US premiere on June 11 on ABC. This marks the first international adaptation of the show announced by MGM. 
 
Discovery Communications and Eurosport yesterday met with members of the Paris 2024 Olympic Bid Committee in a show of support for an Olympic Games to be held in Europe in 2024.
 
Boat Rocker Rights announced a slate of sales, including the Xploration Station block to AB Groupe, France; AMC, Central & Eastern Europe picked up Xploration programs Outer Space and Nature Knows Best. Spektrum, in Poland, picked up Selling Big and Hammer & Chew; AMC, CEE also licensed Chef Michael’s Kitchen, I Wrecked My House and Bake with Anna Olson. Additional sales for Bake with Anna Olson includes Digiturk, Turkey and  I Wrecked My House to Discovery, US Hispanic and Talit Communications, Israel. Talit also picked up All For Nothing and Weekend Reno. Additionally, Ice Racer Showdown has been sold to Discovery, CEEMEA, as well as JCG, Korea.

YES’ primetime New York Yankees telecasts dominated cable in the NY DMA in April and May, as the network’s average TV Household ratings for its primetime Yankees games soundly beat the ratings of all other cable networks’ primetime schedules on nights when YES televised Yankees games. In addition, viewership for YES’ Yankees telecasts through the first two months of the 2017 season was up by 50 percent year-over-year.
