2017 will be the year advertisers spend more on the Internet than on TV, projects PwC in its 5-year “Global Entertainment and Media Outlook 2016-2020” report. But while Internet advertising ($75.3 billion) will overtake broadcast TV advertising for the first time in the U.S., “Broadcast TV advertising has responded fairly robustly to digital disruption and is expected to remain healthy with a projected 2.8 percent CAGR and $70.4 billion by 2017,” according to PwC. “Mobile behaviors are challenging the traditional value of attention and the ability to monetize advertising dollars. There’s no one perfect metric to inform advertisers of the value they get when you consider the shifting consumer behaviors,” said Deborah Bothun, PwC’s global and U.S. entertainment and media leader. “However, the market will be hindered by consumer resistance to a poor ad experience and potential widespread adoption of ad-blocking technology.”
