NBC is replacing medical drama Heartbreaker on its fall schedule with Dick Wolf spinoff Chicago Med, to accommodate the pregnancy of Heartbreaker star Melissa George
. Originally set to debut midseason, Chicago Med will step into the Tuesday post-The Voice slot in September. Both shows start production this summer, but Heartbreaker will take a baby break.OWN is not moving forward with a planned docu-series focused on Jay Williams, the music producer who fathered 34 children by 17 women and appeared on the net’s Iyanla: Fix My Life. “The series aimed to follow Jay as he worked to put his life and fractured relationships in order and to hold him accountable every step of the way,” said OWN. “The intention was to help Jay work to establish new connections with his family, his children and the mothers of his children. Production has ended and the series will not air.” The show had been slated for a September debut.
Lifetime released the first four episodes of its new scripted show, UnReal, on its website. While the show was well reviewed, last week’s premiere averaged a soft 815,000 viewers. UnReal airs Mondays at 10p.
Don’t expect big changes on season two of Fox hit Empire. Co-creator Danny Strong, speaking at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, said, “We’re just going to continue the story, because if we tried to make it bigger and better, we’d make it worse and lamer.” As for big-name guest stars (Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravtiz are among those lined up for next season), “I’m a vocal proponent of not doing all the stunt casting,” said Strong. “It’s not a source of tension, but it’s a source of disagreement.”
ABC Family moved the season 2 premiere of Chasing Life from August 17 to Monday, July 6 at 10p. Drama follows The Fosters at 8p and new docu-series Becoming Us at 9p.
History is doing its part to help flood relief efforts in Texas. The net has teamed up with nonprofit organization Team Rubicon for “Operation Double Trouble”, which has deployed team members to Texas, making a cash donation to support the effort and a public service announcement encouraging contributions. “After spending the last two years working on Texas Rising,” said Dirk Hoogstra, EVP and GM, “we at History feel a special affinity to the state of Texas.”
In the wake of criticism from the medical community, The Dr. Oz Show hired a medical expert to fill the newly created position of chief of staff of the medical unit that researches scripts and evaluates expert guests. Oz had been attacked as a “quack” by 10 doctors who wanted him ousted from his vice chairman post at Columbia medical school, charges Oz said were spurred by his support for labeling genetically modified foods. The controversy appears to be taking a toll on his show – in the most recent May sweep, The Dr. Oz Show lost 35 percent of its rating, to 1.3, and 42 percent among W25-54, to a .7 average, versus May 2014.

Comcast Corp. scooped up another advanced advertising technology company, Visible World. “This partnership reflects the business and technology trends we are seeing in the television industry today,” said John Schanz, EVP and chief network officer for Comcast Cable. In March 2014, Comcast acquired FreeWheel for $360 million.
While the U.S. ad market is projected to grow 3.1 percent through 2019, according to Pivotal Research Group, television’s five-year average growth rate is estimated at 2.6 percent, fueled in part by “ongoing spending reductions to other media.” As for dollars being siphoned to digital, “We continue to believe that commonly held views around shifting spending from traditional TV to digital media owners are general overblown,” said Brian Weiser, senior research analyst.
