NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Ink Master may be heading into season 9 on Spike tonight at 10p, but don’t expect the same old, same old. “ We always intend to change and evolve the show from season to season, but this time we’re raising the stakes in a way we never have before,” Glenda Hersh, exec producer and co-CEO of Truly Original, tells Cynopsis. This season, “There is twice the amount of prize money on the line, and we have two-person artist teams representing various shops from across the country, in an effort to be crowned ‘Master Shop.’ They’re not just competing for themselves but working to elevate the reputation of their businesses, and that is a great place for Ink Master to go. “

ADVERTISING

TVision released its 1Q17 report today, measuring eyes-on-screen TV attention to offer insight on viewer engagement. Of note: new metric Creative Performance Scores . “The Creative Performance Score is a game-changer,” Dan Schiffman, CRO and co-founder of TVision, tells Cynopsis. ”It is the first passive, in-market, measure of creative breakthrough on TV and it is available to advertisers within hours of first airing. Previously, brands waited weeks or months for ad level breakthrough measures. Our ability to provide eyes-on-screen attention data empowers television advertisers with actionable information to optimize their TV campaigns and attribute success to a specific ad, time and place.” Capturing the greatest number of seconds of attention over the quarter were Geico, Nutrisystem, Progressive, Verizon and AT&T Wireless. You’ll find more data here .

A new branded-content video series on Adult Swim uses humor to spread the anti-smoking message of truth, shining a light on how African-Americans, low-income neighborhoods and LGBTQ communities have been disproportionately affected by tobacco use thanks to profiling by the tobacco industry. The 5-part episodic series, Rainbow Lane, premiered yesterday, taking over an entire commercial pod via Turner Native Plus. .

Liquor brands will finally have a shot at reaching NFL audiences, though that access comes with restrictions beer brands don’t face. The number of 30-second spots in a game is limited to 4, along with a limit of 2 ads in any quarter or within halftime. And spirits ads will have to include a social responsibility message, with 20% of ads exclusively social good messaging.

Simulmedia announced plans to license a standalone version of its Video Advertising Marketing Operating System, the predictive planning, analytics and execution platform for TV. VAMOS will now be offered as Software as a Service to marketers, agencies, TV media owners and distributors to optimize their TV campaigns on an audience and outcome basis on their own, and with their own media and own data. “This is the same platform Simulmedia has used for thousands of campaigns, most of which we guaranteed the sales outcomes. No TV ad platform has ingested and analyzed more audiences and more campaigns,” said Dave Morgan, CEO of Simulmedia. “From the start we have planned to offer VAMOS as an external SaaS, but needed to wait for the market to catch up it its unique capabilities.”

Merman , founded by Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) and her producer partner Clelia Mountford, is launching a division focused on creating brand-supported content. The advertising division will work alongside narrative film and television division for projects with agencies and clients. “It’s not a romantic thing, like I watched Mad Men and thought I wanted to be them,” said Horgan. “It’s more about the people I’ve met in advertising, the directors and creatives, and the work they do.…We are also in an environment where there is a lot of crossover in making content. It used to be a different world, but it doesn’t feel like a different world now.”
