Ryan Seacrest is taking over for Pat Sajak as the host of “Wheel of Fortune” when Sajak retires at the end of next season. He’ll also serve as a consulting producer on the show. “I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak,” said Seacrest. “Pat, I love the way you’ve always celebrated the contestants and made viewers at home feel at ease. Scripps local stations are expanding their horizons. Twenty-five stations across the country will air either an hour or a half hour of Scripps News, “and this is just the beginning,” posted Kate O’Brian, Scripps News President, on LinkedIn. “There will be more stations airing Scripps News in the fall…. This opportunity to show news audiences what we do is a vital step in becoming a widely known and trusted news source.”
Following a reshuffling of Fox News hosts that has Jesse Waters moving from 7p to 8p starting July 17 to fill the slot left open by Tucker Carlson’s April exit, the roles of the eight remaining staffers on Carlson’s show have been eliminated. They may find spots elsewhere at FNC, and could be eligible for enhanced benefits if they remain until July 14. Carlson was fired in the wake of the Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit and the release of embarrassing private messages.
An open letter from GLAAD in partnership with the Human Rights Campaign urged social media platforms to come down harder on hate speech directed at the LGBTQ community. “There has been a massive systemic failure to prohibit hate, harassment, and malicious anti-LGBTQ disinformation on your platforms and it must be addressed. The very content you profit from is in violation of your own terms of service, which assert that you do not allow hate speech,” said the letter, signed by over 200 people including Dan Levy, Cynthia Nixon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Judd Apatow and Lena Dunham.

Max has greenlit the thriller “When Nobody Sees Us,” its first series order in Spain. “Throughout my professional career I have made several thrillers with different intensity and themes. ‘When Nobody Sees Us’ is for me a first and exciting incursion into the television serial of detectives and pure investigation,” said director Enrique Urbizu (“No Rest for the Wicked”), of the eight-parter. “Both in tone and rhythm, this is a new adventure for me.”
R.E.M. and FX’s “The Bear” have teamed for a music video for “Strange Currencies (Remix)”. Music from the alt-rock band is featured prominently during season two of the series, which premiered June 22 on Hulu.
STREAMING
Future Today has partnered with TCL to bring its online streaming service to TCL TV and mobile users. Future Today will launch five linear channels, provide content and offer its proprietary technology to power TCL’s new AVOD offering. The offering will also include Future Today’s FAST channels. “This partnership will allow us to expand our reach and offer our diverse library of programming to even more viewers across North America,” said Vikrant Mathur, co-founder of Future Today.
Roku inked its first live sports deal, becoming the streaming home of 11 races in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The agreement also calls for Formula E docu-follow series “Unplugged” to run on Roku, along with other race-related content.
The Weather Channel streaming app has launched on Vizio. The app allows subscribers to customize local weather information, livestream news, and view on-demand programming.
Pluto TV is launching a 24-hour Godzilla channel. The channel, launching in early July, will feature 30 films.

Telemundo released a trailer for reality show “Los 50” (The 50) – and you don’t need to speak Spanish to see that drama, rivalries, alliances and $350,000 are on the way. Based on a French format, the series puts 50 celebrity castmates under the command of a lion-masked game master, starting Tuesday, July 18.
Max Original DC docuseries “Superpowered: The DC Story” debuts Thursday, July 20 on Max. The three-parter, narrated by Rosario Dawson, explores the legacy of the comic book company and characters.
“Leguizamo Does America,” following John Leguizamo as he explores Latino communities, has been renewed for a second season on MSNBC. “The team behind ‘Leguizamo Does America’ created an illuminating series that is as savvy and clever as it is savory and colorful – told through the lens of one of the most iconic voices of the Latino community,” said MSNBC President Rashida Jones. “This show proves once again that there is an audience for diverse stories.”
Streamer FOX Nation has tapped “Live PD” alumnus and retired Tulsa, Oklahoma police officer Sean “Sticks” Larkin to host a new crime series. “Crime Cam 24/7” launches Friday, July 7 with a new episode streaming every Friday at 6p. The program will air in the same timeslot as series “COPS,” which returns this fall for a new season.
“Teen Mom: The Next Chapter” premieres Wednesday, July 19 at 8p with two episodes. The MTV reality show follows fan faves from the “Teen Mom” franchise.
FX’s “A Murder at the End of the World” premieres Tuesday, August 29 on Hulu. The mystery series, fka “Retreat,” stars Emma Corrin as an amateur sleuth.
“All Creatures Great and Small” will return to Masterpiece on PBS with seven new episodes in 2024. Added to the cast for season four are Neve McIntosh (“Shetland”) and James Anthony-Rose (“Slow Horses”).

Major brands are unintentionally funneling programmatic advertising dollars into unreliable artificial intelligence-generated news and information websites (UAINs), reports NewsGuard. “This programmatic approach thus funds low-quality and misinformation sites, while failing to protect ‘brand safety,’” said NewsGuard’s Misinformation Monitor: June 2023, noting, “Rather than the companies choosing to have their advertisements appear on these sites, they were positioned automatically through a system that places ads regardless of the nature of the website.”

Tennis Channel serves two weeks of coverage of Wimbledon starting Monday, July 3, at 5p. The season two premiere of FX’s “The Bear” on Hulu, launched on June 22, has become the most-watched premiere of any series on Hulu. After the first four days of viewing, there was a 70% increase in total hours streamed over the first season.
Bret Baier’s two-part interview with former President Trump on Fox News’ “Special Report” averaged 2.383 million viewers and 274,000 among A25-54. In business news, Fox Business Network’s “Kudlow” was the most-watched program for the week, clocking 249,000 viewers.
For the month of June, Fox News topped the Nielsen chart in primetime with 1.49 million viewers, down 31% versus the same period last year. MSNBC inched up 3%, to 1.32 million viewers, while CNN was down 3%, to 635,000. In Total Day – perhaps less affected by the exit of Tucker Carlson – FNC was down 21%, MSNBC was up 9% and CNN was up 1%.
Spectrum News was the most-watched news network among Spectrum households in June, averaging 1.9 million daily viewing households across its linear and digital platforms.
