The NHL unveiled its 2019-20 schedule with 1,271 games on deck during the regular season. The season opens on Oct. 2 and runs through April 4, with the All-Star Game and festivities running Jan. 24-26, 2020 in St. Louis. Key dates include defending champion Blues opening the season on Oct. 2 against the Capitals, and giving the Bruins a rematch on Oct. 26. This year’s outdoor games will see the Flames/Jets on Oct. 26, Predators/Stars on Jan. 1 and Kings/Avalanche on Feb. 15. Meanwhile, the NHL Global Series sees the Blackhawks/Flyers in Prague on Oct. 4 and Sabres/Lightning on Nov. 8-9 in Stockholm.
 
 
PROGRAMMING

The US win over Spain in the FIFA Women’s World Cup saw its early time hurt viewership, with the game down from its 2015 equivalent to earn a 2.5 overnight score on FS1, with Austin leading all markets. Still, on the digital front, the daytime match drew 618,000 unique streamers overall, up 277% over the 2015 equivalent, with an average minute audience of 204,000, up 43% over the previous best WWC matchup between USA/Sweden during the Group Stage.
 
Meanwhile, Telemundo Deportes’ presentation of USA/Spain on Monday drew a Total Audience Delivery of 740,000 viewers across Telemundo, NBCSN, TelemundoDeportes.com, the Telemundo Deportes app, and the NBC Sports app, to rank as the most-watched weekday FIFA Women’s World Cup match in Spanish-language television history, according to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics. The U.S. Women’s National Team’s 2-1 victory against Spain peaked at 951,000 TV-only viewers on Telemundo and NBCSN in the 1:45-2pm ET quarter hour.
 
NBA TV detailed plans for Summer League coverage and will offer up 50 live game telecasts across 13 days beginning July 1, following 11 daily hours of Free Agent Fever on Sunday. The schedule – including live game telecasts from all three Summer League locations – tips off with three games, including the Cavaliers/Spurs at 7p. Live event coverage will include 10 game telecasts from the Sacramento Kings’ California Classic Summer League and the 2019 Utah Jazz Summer League – five from each location – held from July 1-4. The network will also present an all-time record 40 live game telecasts from the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2019 in Las Vegas from July 5-13. The network’s on-site commentators in Las Vegas will include analysts Brendan Haywood, Caron Butler, Steve Smith, Isiah Thomas, Sam Mitchell and eight-time NBA All-Star Vince Carter.
 
Get Up is hitting July with a slate of afternoon specials in addition to its morning shows that will air on ESPN2 in the normal 8-10a slot due to Wimbledon coverage. The specials will see afternoon programs during the first week of July (except for July 4) from 4:30-6p on ESPN.
 
WWE tied up a deal with PP Sports in a multi-year agreement that will keep its programming running live in Mandarin in China. PP Sports will offer Raw, Smackdown and the WWE Network as a subscription VOD service with all of its monthly pay-per-view events.

According to reports, the car brand will now focus on its global partnership with the 2020 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.
 
The Seattle Sounders FC and longtime partner Delta Air Lines teamed up on a new, three-part docuseries titled “Nonstop Scouting” and exploring the intersection of travel, culture and soccer and follows the travels of Chris Henderson, Sounders FC’s vice president of soccer and sporting director, in his search for the team’s next star player. The series is directed by J.J. Kelley – a two-time Emmy-nominated filmmaker, host of an upcoming series on Travel Channel, and senior producer and correspondent for National Geographic Channel’s documentary series Explorer.
 
The Harlem Globetrotters joined On Our Sleeves, the movement designed to transform childhood mental health developed by Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The team announced the creation of The Harlem Globetrotters Fund at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. As Ambassadors of Goodwill, the Globetrotters are internationally known for championing issues that impact children and families and will support Nationwide Children’s Hospital with various initiatives to raise awareness and break the stigma of pediatric mental health.

SAP unveiled “Call the Shots,” an interactive, online game that places fans in the shoes of Wimbledon Champ Angelique Kerber the day before a big match and allows fans to use SAP Tennis Analytics to get Kerber match-ready, by using data and insights to make decisions that will help – or potentially hurt – her success on the court the next day – from helping Angie pick the most nutritious breakfast, to selecting her training intensity levels.
 
Genius Sports Media, the media technology arm of Genius Sports Group, unveiled a new suite of data-driven fan engagement services to help brands and publishers connect with their audiences. According to the announcement, a new suite of next generation marketing tools will embed content like real-time statistics, betting odds or video highlights into their creative. Genius Sports Media has also launched a portfolio of live data-driven widgets for digital publishers
 
ESPN.com signed national college football writer Bill Connelly to a multi-year contract and reached multi-year extensions with fellow writers Heather Dinich and Adam Rittenberg ahead of the sport’s 150th anniversary season. Connelly will focus on the sport’s national landscape, with Dinich focusing on the College Football Playoff while Rittenberg remains a national college football insider.
 
 
ESPORTS

Facebook Gaming is integrating StreamElements into the platform, where livestreaming tool will be mae available for users that enables broadcasters to bring tipping, overlays, and more to their livestreams on Facebook Gaming. In addition, StreamElements has optimized OBS Live for Facebook, allowing creators to control the look and feel of their livestream.
 
Drodo studio, Dragonest Network, and ImbaTV announced plans for the Auto Chess Invitational, held in Shanghai in October with $1 million on the line. Global qualifying will be launched early August 2019.
 
High School Esports League, which features over 1,500 partnered high schools across North America, announced the launch of the HSEL Esports Equipment Bundle hardware program in partnership with MAINGEAR. The initiative offers schools that sign up for three years of esports competition six high-end gaming PCs, with Razer peripherals and includes unlimited access to HSEL competitions for three years, with unlimited teams and student slots, plus six MAINGEAR VYBE gaming rigs powered by AMD Ryzen processors, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti graphics cards.

ESPN confirmed talent who will be participating in the 10th espnW Women+Sports Summit, which runs Oct. 21-23 this year. The National Lacrosse League announced the expansion of its diversity and inclusion programming to “strengthen its focus on cultural competency, and honoring indigenous people and their impact on the sport.” This offseason, every team including players, coaches, front office staff, and league staff are required to complete the cultural competency training course offered on US Lacrosse’s website as part of a league wide effort to focus on diversity and inclusion.
