The series is set to bow on Science Channel in June.
 
A quartet of Saturday Night Live vets, Paula Pell, John Lutz, Lorne Michaels and Seth Meyers, has teamed on Mapleworth Murders, a comedic murder mystery series for Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’s short-form video platform Quibi. Written by and starring Pell and Lutz, series centers on Abigail Mapleworth (Pell), a murder-mystery writer who solves homicides in the quaint town of New Woodstream.
 
Warner Media greenlit two series from Maniac creator Patrick Sommerville for its upcoming streaming service. Made For Love, based on the novel by Alissa Nutting, is a dark comedy about divorce and revenge. Station 11 is a post-apocalyptic limited drama based on the bestseller by Emily St. John Mandel, which tells the stories of survivors of a devastating flu as they attempt to rebuild the world.

Bobby Flay heats things up on Food Network this summer with two new series. BBQ Brawl: Flay V. Symon, debuting Thursday, August 1 at 9p, sees Flay go head-to-head with fellow Iron Chef Michael Symon as they coach eight of the country’s most respected BBQ challengers for bragging rights. In The Flay List, bowing Thursday, August 22 at 10:30p, Flay visits the culinary spots he has frequented with his daughter Sophie over the years. 
 
Class begins on a young and endangered species in Orangutan Jungle School. The new docuseries bows Friday, August 2 on Smithsonian Channel Plus, with the first two episodes free for those without a subscription.
 
Season 2 of Common Knowledge, hosted by Joey Fatone, debuts Monday, July 15 at 5:30p on Game Show Network. Two teams of three compete to answer practical, everyday questions with the winner going to the bonus round for a chance to win $10,000.

Two decades after the country mourned thetragic losses of John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Bessette, TLC will air JFK Jr. and Carolyn’s Wedding: The Lost Tapes on Saturday, July 13 at 8p. Elizabeth McGovern narrates the special that takes an exclusive, in-depth look at their nuptials.
 
Woodstock: Three Days That Defined a Generation premieres Tuesday, August 6 at 9p on PBS (check local listings). American filmmaker Barak Goodman revisits the 1969 event on its 50th anniversary.
 
 
 
 
CASTING

Showtime drama Penny Dreadful: City of Angels has rounded out its cast. Michael Gladis (Mad Men) joins as a regular, while Lorenza Izzo (Aftershock) was tapped for a major recurring role. Also, Adam Rodriguez (CSI: Miami), Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Dominic Sherwood (Shadowhunters) and Ethan Peck (Star Trek: Discovery) will recur in the series.

Genius Brands International, Inc. “Genius Brands” entered a content partnership between its Genius Brands Network, which includes Kid Genius Cartoon Channel and Baby Genius TV, and Tankee, Inc., the first safe, digital destination for kids  6 to 12 to enjoy gaming videos. Beginning July 2019, Genius Brands Network will launch a roster of Tankee Originals, including Minecraft, Journey to the End, Octodad, Dadliest, Catch, PixARK Adventure and Fairy Horse Quest, delivering 75 episodes on the Kid Genius Cartoon Channel.

YouTube Originals celebrated Pride Month with the debut of State of Pride, a coast-to-coast exploration of LGBTQ+ Pride events. Directed by filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman and hosted by journalist Raymond Braun, the documentary provides an intimate look at the LGBTQ+ experience through a range of perspectives and personalities.
 
The Real Camilla debuts on subscription video on demand service True Royalty TV on Thursday, August 1. Documentary special gives viewers a look at the royal life of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
 
Spectrum Originals picked up Latin American drama Todo Por El Juego (Side Games) from Imagina International Sales. The Spanish-language series, which has the option of English subtitles, is set in the world of a fictionalized Second Division Spanish Soccer League. The first three of eight episodes will be released in the U.S. on Monday, July 15.
 
AVOD services have been slow to offer viewers the mobile video download they are used to in SVOD services, in large part because advertising makes implementing download more complex. But now, download for AVOD technology has entered the market, and it’s an enormous business opportunity, says Dan Hurwitz, Chief Revenue Officer of Penthera. In a letter to the Federal Trade Commission, Sen. Ed Markey (D-Massachusetts) said that YouTube should be required to implement new privacy safeguards for children.  “Personal information about a child can be leveraged to hook consumers for years to come,” wrote Markey. “It is incumbent upon the FTC to enforce federal law and act as a check against the ever-increasing appetite for children’s data.” Markey’s letter follows reports that the FTC is investigating whether Google’s YouTube violated the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act by collecting personal data from children. The law requires website operators to obtain parental consent before knowingly collecting information, including geolocation data, mobile telephone number and persistent identifiers, from children younger than 13
 
Another telecom provider is taking action against fraudulent robocalls for landline and mobile phone customers. Comcast announced that it is giving Xfinity Mobile customers the option to use robocall blocking technology by downloading the Hiya app for free. Once downloaded, customers can receive alerts about potential spam calls and block them.

MWM Universe greenlit a second season of podcast Voyage to the Stars. Kirsten Vangsness (Criminal Minds) joins the sci-fi comedy playing Nico, a lesbian space alien who finds herself in a love triangle with fellow crewmembers.
 
CNN’s Don Lemon hosts Up From the Grave. The five-episode podcast tells the story of one of the deadliest fires in Arkansas’ history, which claimed the lives of 21 boys, after being padlocked inside their dorm room at a reform school.
 
Green Flower Media brings podcasts and cannabis together in Green Flower Nation, launching Tuesday, July 1. It explores the impact cannabis is having on our society today from medicine to sports to entrepreneurship.

RATINGS
 
The live premiere of The 2019 BET Awards on Sunday, June 23 was the top cable awards show for the fifth consecutive year (2015-2019) among A18-49, while garnering 12.7 million Total Viewers tuning across eight Viacom networks.
 
Live PD hit new series high ratings on Friday, pushing A&E to #1 across all broadcast and cable networks in prime in the key A25-54 and A18-49 demos. The June 21 episode drew 2.4 million Total Viewers, 1.2 million A25-54 and 966,000 A18-49.
 
The Live+3 ratings for the premiere of Spin the Wheel mark FOX’s most streamed summer debut ever (excluding sports), delivering 4.5 million Total Multi-Platform Viewers, up +1.1 million viewers from Live+SD.
 
Family Feud (6.1 Live+SD national Neilsen rating, unchanged) dethroned Jeopardy! (5.8, down 15% from the week before), which was unable to finish first among syndicated game shows for the first time in 11 weeks. Wheel of Fortune (new season low 5.2, down 9%) rolled to third place in the category.

Judge Judy (5.4) continued to lead courtroom shows, and Dr. Phil (2.3, down 4 %) was the talk show champ, despite being in repeats all five days. Live with Kelly and Ryan (2.0, down 5%) was second for the 16th straight week over Ellen DeGeneres (1.8, down 5%). The trial run for RuPaul (0.5/1 weighted metered market average) dropped 17% from its lead-in).
