Good morning. It’s Tuesday June 18, 2019 and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
 

Sunday’s win by the US over Chile in the FIFA Women’s World Cup drove FOX Sports to an average of 5.4 million viewers across its television and streaming sources, with 5.324 alone on FOX. That makes the match the most-watched in the history of the Group Stage of the tournament in the US and most-watched English-language soccer telecast in the country since last year’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia final, according to Nielsen Media Research. Highlights include a rise of 19% over the second U.S. Group Stage match in 2015 (4,492,000 vs. Sweden). In addition, the win marked the second-most streamed FIFA Women’s World Cup match ever, with an average-minute audience of more than 84,000. FOX Sports social platforms delivered their second-best day of the tournament with 7.2 million.
 
 
PROGRAMMING

Meanwhile, a boast from a west coast visit and a primetime visit for the U.S. Open saw the final round on FOX average 7.312 million viewers to rank as the best final round performance since 2013, according to Nielsen Sunday’s coverage was up 44% year-over-year. Overall, FOX Sports’ fifth presentation of the U.S. Open Championship averaged 3.673 million viewers across all four rounds on FOX and FS1, the most-watched U.S. Open since 2013 and a jump of 28% over 2018 (2.863 million).
 
Meanwhile, Univision reports that its Gold Cup telecasts on Saturday marked its top opening performance since 2011. Airing on Univision and UDN, Canada/Martinique followed by Mexico/Cuba reached 7.9 million Total Viewers 2+, and averaged 1.4 million Total Viewers 2+ and 662,000 Adults 18-49 for the two matches. Compared to 2017, the opener was up 87% with Adults 18-49 and 113% with Total Viewers 2+.
 
NFL quarterback Josh McCown is retiring and taking his talents to ESPN, which he will serve as an NFL analyst and appear on NFL Live, SportsCenter, Get Up!, and more. McCown will make his ESPN debut Wednesday on NFL Live at 1:30p.
 
NBA TV is on deck to showcase more live coverage of the start of the NBA off-season than ever before, with the NBA Draft 2019 presented by State Farm and Free Agent Fever. The network will feature live pick-by-pick player evaluations throughout both rounds of the NBA Draft, in addition to roster analysis and offseason forecasts for all 30 teams, post-selection interviews and on-site production from Barclays Center on Thursday, June 20, beginning at 7p. NBA TV analysts in Brooklyn will include Tom Penn, Steve Smith, Brendan Haywood, Andy Katz and guests, along with post-draft analysis including insider Shams Charania. Casey Stern will host from Barclays Center, with Jared Greenberg reporting and Ro Parrish serving as a social media correspondent.
 
ESPN announced that The 2019 ESPYS “Best Coach Award” will be given to Jim Calhoun. The ESPYS will be broadcast live on ABC on Wednesday, July 10, at 8p from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
 
Tonight sees CBS Sports Network serve up a night of female-led programming beginning with a new episode of We Need to Talk at 7p, with a basketball-focused episode will discuss the WNBA, the NBA Draft and the Big 3. Hosts Swin Cash, Tina Cervasio, Dana Jacobson and Amy Trask will be joined by guests WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, NBA Draft prospect Jarrett Culver (Texas Tech), New York Liberty center Tina Charles and Big 3 star Carlos Boozer. Afterward, a special program highlighting the four finalists for the Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) Inspiration Award, “Stories We’ve Told: Defying the Odds – The 2019 Honda Inspiration Award” will air. The night closes out with a WNBA matchup between the Mystics/Sparks at 10:30p.
 
Season three of Dana White’s Contender Series will debut on its new home, ESPN+, tonight at 8p. The bouts air live from the new UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
 
FloSports and the Professional Bowlers Association signed an agreement to host the first FloBowling PBA ATX Invite. Live and on-demand coverage of the event will air on FloBowling.com. With this partnership, the PBA national tour will return to Austin for the first time since 2000, on Sept. 21.

Sports Illustrated’s media operations will see new owner Authentic Brands Group license SI’s print and digital publishing rights to The Maven, a startup. The announcement sees Maven prepay $45 million to ABG against future royalties under a 10-year licensing agreement with guaranteed yearly minimum royalty payments.

Counter Logic Gaming cemented a deal with sports style brand FILA to serve as the Official Apparel Partner for CLG’s Fortnite team. Beginning in July, CLG players will wear select FILA products throughout the broadcast of the first ever Fortnite World Cup. The partnership is also set to include brand integration for FILA across CLG’s Fortnite Team digital platforms including player Twitch Streams and the CLG Twitter feed.
 
Dignitas unveiled a partnership with the Esports Entertainment Group, a licensed online gambling company focused on esports wagering and 18+ gaming. The deal sees VIE.gg, a bet exchange-style wagering platform become an Official Partner of the team. The multi-year partnership sees VIE.gg receive placement on the back of Dignitas’ competitive uniforms for the Rocket League, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Women and Super Smash Bros teams, and exposure on Dignitas social media platforms, website and more. Dignitas’ World Champion Rocket League and CS:GO Female teams and Super Smash Brothers stars will represent VIE.gg on the team’s jersey, live streams and social media branding.
 
Estars, a new engagement platform for esports events worldwide, is joining the World Series of Poker to bring the Estars Lounge to the 50th annual tournament series for the first time at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino where Estars members can play a variety of gaming titles, socialize with friends, and interact with top video game streamers.
