Pat Sajak is retiring as host of “Wheel of Fortune” after the game show’s upcoming 41st season – and “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest is reportedly in talks to replace him. “Some sources say he is the frontrunner. Others say he is just one of many interested,” said Bloomberg reporter Lucas Shaw. But don’t count out other candidates. Whoopi Goldberg told her “The View” audience yesterday, “I want that job. I think it would be tons of fun.”
The talk about who will take the “Wheel” started after Sajak tweeted, “It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)”. After he exits the hosting job, Sajak will continue as a consultant for three years, said Sony Pictures Television in a statement.
Stephen Colbert has signed on for three more years at CBS’ “The Late Show.” His new contract runs through 2026. CBS CEO George Cheeks shared the news at the Banff TV Festival.
The CW has renewed “Superman & Lois” for season four and “All American: Homecoming” for a third season, and canceled freshman drama “Gotham Knights.” “We are thrilled to bring ‘All American: Homecoming’ and ‘Superman & Lois’ back to The CW,” said Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment. “These series are two of our strongest performers across our linear and digital platforms with some of the most passionate fanbases in all of television. “Basketball Wives” scored an 11th season on VH1. After a hiatus, original cast member Evelyn Lozada rejoins MVPs Jackie Christie, Jennifer Williams, and Brooke Bailey, along with a guest appearance from executive producer Shaunie Henderson. New to this season’s roster are Brittany Renner, Vanessa Rider, Jac’Eil Duckworth and Clayanna Warthen. The reality show returns this fall.
Win some, lose some: Relationship reality series “Caught in the Act: Unfaithful” is moving from VH1 to MTV for season two, kicking off Tuesday, July 11 at 9p. Tami Roman returns as host, teaming with suspicious lovers to catch their cheating partners.
CBS has added “Tough as Nails” to its summer slate, beginning with a special two-hour episode on Sunday, July 2. For its fifth season, the reality competition will film in Hamilton, Ontario, and test the strength of both American and Canadian essential workers.
Nickelodeon has renewed “Baby Shark’s Big Show!” for a third season. The animated preschool series is co-produced by Nickelodeon Animation and The Pinkfong Company.
Three new categories have been added to the Grammy Awards: Best African Music Performance; Best Pop Dance Recording; and Best Alternative Jazz Album. The additions reflect the Recording Academy’s efforts to “listen and respond to the feedback from our music community, accurately represent a diverse range of relevant musical genres, and stay aligned with the ever-evolving musical landscape,” said Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy.
Netflix is in early talks to livestream a celebrity golf tournament, reports The Wall Street Journal. The Las Vegas-set event would include personalities from the streamer’s Formula One series “Drive to Survive” and golf docuseries “Full Swing.”
New digital ads were released by the conservative Koch Network that are set to debut in key early primary and caucus states. The spots contend that if Donald Trump wins the Republican presidential nomination, President Joe Biden will be re-elected. “Trump did a lot of good things as president,” says one spot, “but this time Trump can’t win.”
Genius Brands International is changing its name to Kartoon Studios, with plans to transfer its listing from Nasdaq to the NYSE American exchange. Kartoon Studios is expected to commence trading on the NYSE American exchange when markets open on Monday, June 26, under a new trading symbol, “TOON.”

Netflix came out on top in a bidding war for the rights to David Gauvey Herbert’s Esquire magazine article, “Daddy Ball.” The article, focused on a dad-on-dad rivalry, will be developed as a limited series starring and directed by Jason Bateman (“Ozark”).
Cineflix Studios (“Tehran”) has struck a partnership deal with Canadian scripted producer December Films (“Reginald the Vampire”). Ten-part series, “Carpe Demon,” from showrunner Emily Andras (“Wynonna Earp”), is in development for Paramount+ Canada.
Disney Branded Television has greenlit a new animated series for preschoolers, “Disney Junior’s Ariel,” inspired by “The Little Mermaid.” The series, following a young Ariel, is set to debut on Disney platforms worldwide in 2024. Additional greenlight announcements include Disney Branded Television’s “StuGo” and Disney EMEA Originals’ “Magicampers” and “The Sunnyridge 3.”

FX announced a new title for limited series “A Murder at the End of the World” (formerly “Retreat”). The mystery drama stars Emma Corrin as a Gen Z amateur sleuth, as well as Harris Dickinson, series co-creator Brit Marling, and Clive Owen.
HGTV’s “Holmes Family Rescue” is back for season two on Wednesday, June 21 at 9p. The renovation series attracted more than 25.5 million viewers during its freshman run.

SailGP and Oracle will build on their collaboration during SailGP’s first three seasons by expanding the league’s use of Oracle Cloud during Season 4 and extending the partnership through the end of 2026. Kentucky Fried Chicken launched their latest ad campaign featuring Pro Football Hall of Famer and University of Colorado Boulder head football coach Deion Sanders and his family. The national ad campaign was created and produced by NIMBUS, a Black-owned strategic marketing agency, and launched on Tuesday with a multiplatform rollout including a :30 streaming channel ad including CBS, BET, CW, Disney+, ESPN+, Max, FOX, Hulu, NBC Sports, Peacock, and Roku placements, and :15 and :06 social and programmatic spots.

GoQuest Media has struck a deal with Lithuanian production company Dansu Films for the drama series “Troll Farm.” The five-part comedy-drama is the first of its kind to be produced in Lithuania.
Paramount+ announced a Canadian content strategy in development, commissioned features and acquired programming. The slate includes series and features, including a Paramount+ Original documentary and four new development projects in partnership with diverse creators in the country. “Our strategy includes partnering with the most exciting creators in the country, like we did with this first slate of projects,” said Katrina Kowalski, Vice President, Content, Paramount+ and Pluto TV Canada. “Storytelling captures viewers’ hearts and minds, and Paramount+ in Canada is proud to be working with local partners who are just as passionate as we are.”
Superights will serve as global distributor for kids’ series “Tara Duncan,” based on the eponymous 15-volume French global saga written by Sophie Audouin-Mamikonian. The series has been produced by Audouin-Mamikonian’s own production entity, Princess Sam Pictures.

Tennis Channel’s French Open coverage on Friday, June 9 drew 530,000 viewers for the men’s semifinal match between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. This is second only to the channel’s all-time high, 666,000 viewers, during a quarterfinal match between Djokovic and Rafael Nadal at last year’s tournament.
Estrella Media entertainment competition series “Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento” had double-digit growth with a growing hybrid audience in Season 27, which had its season finale on June 7. The eight-week season reached more than 3.5 million linear viewers (P2+), 2.3 million social followers (Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok), and nearly 10 million video uniques across its digital platforms, including social media.
