California’s film and TV tax credit program could get a $180 million hike if the state’s lawmakers are successful in their quest to bring it more on par with New York. The California Senate Budget Committee last week adopted a proposal that would provide $90 million per year for 2021-22 and 2022-23, which would be added to the $330 million annual outlay in the current program, administered by the California Film Commission. The figure is triple the amount Gov. Gavin Newsom had proposed.

RATINGS
Entertainment magazines were the hot spots in syndication news, while most programs in the other genres went sideways or down in the session ending May 30. Game shows did not have a lot of fun. “Family Feud” lost a bit but beat “Jeopardy!” with former star contestant Buzzy Cohen at the podium and its “Tournament of Champions” finale. “Wheel of Fortune” also slowed slightly.
