FX picked up critically acclaimed The Americans for a 13-episode fifth season to air in 2017, and a 10-episode sixth and final season slated for 2018. FX Productions also closed new overall deals with exec producers/showrunners Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields. “We have no doubt that this two-season order will allow Joe and Joel to tell this story to its perfect conclusion,” said FX president of original programming Eric Schrier. Season four finale airs Wednesday, June 8 at 10p.
USA’s weekly Smackdown show will air live for the first time and move to Tuesdays, beginning July 19 at 8p. That gives USA five hours of live WWE programming a week. Smackdown is currently averaging 2.7 million viewers and 1.1 million P25-54 in Live+7.
Original episodes of CNN’s The Hunt, hosted by John Walsh, will be simulcast on sister net HLN, starting with the season three launch on Sunday, June 19. The move is part of a shift in focus, Ken Jautz, EVP of CNN, told Variety. “One of the main things we are doing is refocusing the network on its news roots,” said the exec, who also oversees HLN. “We do not believe there will be any cannibalization, but a substantial increase in cumulative reach.”
Former anchor and reporter for CNN International Errol Barnett is joining CBS News as a correspondent based in Washington D.C. Barnett will report for all CBS News platforms starting in June.
Actor/humanitarian Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon) has been named Jury President for News at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. Jason Priestley (Beverly Hills, 90210) leads the Fiction jury. Festival takes place June 12-16.

IFC is developing a series inspired by Vulture, the New York Magazine entertainment site. The Vulture Show will cover TV, movies, books, theater, art and celebs – with an edge. “IFC has found the perfect pop culture accomplice,” said Christine Lubrano, SVP, Original Programming, IFC. “We look forward to developing a show that provides our viewers with a sophisticated and humorous first-look at all things entertainment before it’s the news everyone is buzzing about.”
NCIS exec producer/showrunner Gary Glasberg signed a three-year overall deal extension with CBS Television Studios. In addition to developing projects for broadcast, cable and streaming services, Glasberg will continue on NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans.
Endemol Shine Studios acquired video game property Mirror’s Edge to adapt for television. Published by Electronic Arts, the story is set in a futuristic dystopian society with a female heroine. “We clearly see Mirror’s Edgeas a franchise for the global TV audience,” said Sharon Hall, president of Endemol Shine Studios. “It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base and a worldwide brand.”
Aftershow Scream After Dark! launches on MTV Monday, May 30 at midnight, after the season two premiere of Scream: The TV Series. Author/actor Jeffery Self (Jeffery & Cole Casserole) hosts.
Country’s Cam joins pop’s Fifth Harmony for a mash-up on the 2016 CMT Music Awards airing live on Wednesday, June 8 at 8p. Sportscaster Erin Andrews and football’s J.J. Watt host.
Speaking of music awards, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will be back to host the 50th Annual CMA Awards. Show airs live on ABC Wednesday, November 2 at 8p.
Freeform’s “Funday” Father’s Day Weekend programming event running June 18-19 includes Disney classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Finding Nemo and Despicable Me, among other family-friendly offerings.
J.L. Family Ranch, starring Jon Voight, James Caan and Melanie Griffith premieres Sunday, August 21 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. The original movie follows a rancher (Voight), his revenge-seeking enemy (Caan) and former girlfriend (Griffith).
Viceland is airing the live broadcast of the evening sets at NYC’s Governor’s Ball. Live Nation TV, a partnership between Vice and Live Nation, will also air the official digital livestream on its YouTube channel. The event, which takes place June 3-5, includes performances by The Strokes, The Killers, Kanye West and Death Cab for Cutie, among many others.
Decades, the multicast TV network from Weigel Broadcasting and CBS Television Stations, is honoring Marilyn Monroe on Wednesday, June 1 with a day of programming devoted to her career. The tribute, on what would have been the screen legend’s 90th birthday, begins with a special edition of the net’s daily Through the Decades.
New Nat Geo series No Man Left Behind launches Tuesday, June 28 at 9p. Personal testimony, archival footage and reenactments are used to tell stories of soldiers stranded in enemy territory.
A&E’s 60 Days In is back for season two on Thursday, August 18 at 9p. The freshman finale of the nonfiction series, documenting the experiences of innocent participants who do jail time, drew over 3.1 million viewers in Live+3. Reunion special 60 Days In: The Aftermath airs tonight at 9p.
Season three of Starz drama Power debuts Sunday, July 17 at 9p. It will be joined by comedy Survivor’s Remorse, also moving to Sundays for its third season, premiering on July 24 at 10p.
The launch of new Discovery series Homestead Rescue was moved from June 10 to Friday, June 17 at 10p. Show follows struggling homesteaders learning the skills they need to survive the wilderness.
American Heroes Channel’s second annual multi-platform campaign to honor veterans and active duty service members, “Salute to Sacrifice,” includes a full day of programming focused on historical moments from the past century. Partners for the Monday, May 30 Memorial Day event include The American Legion, The Bob Woodruff Foundation, Got Your 6, United Service Organizations, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Blue Star Families.
Sportsman Channel is also saluting veterans, with a Memorial Day Weekend marathon that includes episodes about veterans from six series: The Ultimate Hunt, Modern Shooter, Skull Bound TV, Bowhunter TV, Beyond Rubicon and Long Range Reality. Nickelodeon greenlit a 14-episode season two of The Loud House, the number one animated kids’ show on TV since its May 2 launch. The series is averaging a 3.3/981,000 among Kids 2-11.
CNBC’s Binge, hosted by Carl Quintanilla, will cover the conversation around the media landscape. The first five-episode season can be binged at CNBC.com/binge, Apple TV, Hulu and YouTube beginning June 6. The growth of the U.S. video streaming market is slowing, according to a forecast from Strategy Analytics. While the $6.62 billion expected spend on video streaming services this year is up $1.19 billion from 2015, it’s less than last year’s $1.21 billion rise. “Although the change in increase is relatively small, its direction is extremely significant,” says Michael Goodman, Strategy Analytics’ digital media director. “It shows that, whilst actual market saturation is a few years off yet, the domestic US streaming subscription market is now on the backside of the adoption curve. The incremental increase in annual $ spend will decline from here on.”
NBC Olympics is teaming with sister company Fandango for a digital video series. “I Love Movies: Rio Olympic Edition,” featuring athletes sharing film moments that impacted their lives, launches with swimmers Ryan Lochte, Missy Franklin and Matt Greves.

A+E Networks announced the launch of FYI content on Roku. The free TV Everywhere app offers Roku users access to full episodes and exclusive clips of programming including Married at First Sight, Tiny House Nation, Arranged and more.
Poker Central launched in select cities on live Internet-based TV streaming service PlayStation Vue. It’s Poker’s first national pay-TV distributor.
Crikey! The European Commission has proposed a quota for on-demand and streaming services of at least 20 percent European content in film and television catalogues, and wants to force the services, which would include Netflix and Amazon Prime, to invest directly in European projects. “Overall, strengthening the promotion of European works for on-demand services will lead to a broader and more diverse offer for Europeans,” said the commission about the proposals. “This will have a positive impact on cultural diversity and bring more opportunities for European creators.”
UK’s Barcroft Media inked two agreements with OTT platforms for the Barcroft TV brand in India. A deal with PressPlay TV makes Barcroft a premium content partner, while an agreement with Planetcast Media Services brings Barcroft to that upcoming OTT platform.
Canada’s 9 Story Media Group acquired worldwide rights to animated series Garfield and Friends, from Mendelson/Paws Productions. The show, based on the comic strip syndicated in 80 countries, was produced from 1988-1995.

The season finale of NBC’s The Voice (2.2/7) topped the season ender of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars (1.6/5) on Tuesday. Opposite the NBA Western Conference finals on TNT, both shows were down double digits from last year.
With the close of the 2015-2016 season, Fox’s Empire was the top-rated broadcast entertainment program among A18-49 (6.7) and A18-34 (6.1).
Bravo had a good week: Southern Charm (5/16) hit a season high among all key demos and delivered its most-watched (P2+) in series history, garnering 932,000 P18-49, 1.09 million P25-54 and 1.7 million total viewers, Live+3. The same night, Real Housewives of Dallas matched its highest-rated episode among P18-49, delivering 802,000 P18-49, 888,000 P25-54 and 1.38 million total viewers. On May 17, Below Deck Mediterranean had its best ratings to-date among both P18-49 and P25-54, earning 803,000 P18-49, 925,000 P25-54 and 1.4 million total viewers. On May 18, The Real Housewives of New York City hit a season high among all key demos, delivering 1.2 million P18-49, 1.4 million P25-54 and 2.2 million total viewers. And Million Dollar Listing New York (May 19) delivered its second consecutive season high and third consecutive week of growth among total viewers, earning 736,000 in P18-49, 874,000 in P25-54 and 1.6 million total viewers.
Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: NBC won the most A18-49 viewers Tuesday with 1.9/7, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. NBC topped 8p with 1.4/5 for The Voice, followed by 1.3/5 for CW’s The Flash. The first hour of The Voice finale won 9p with 2.2/7, versus 1.6/5 for the season ender of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. The Voice maintained the lead at 10p with 2.2/8, followed by 1.6/6 for Dancing.

MSNBC producer Izzy Povich is leaving after 19 years. Most recently, Povich helped transition the news net’s daytime from opinion to breaking news. “She’s a brilliant and creative producer, a skillful manager, a fearless fighter and a great friend,” said MSNBC President Phil Griffin.
Actress Beth Howland died December 31 from lung cancer, confirmed her husband, actor Charles Kimbrough, who told the Associated Press she hadn’t wanted a service or memorial. Howland, who was 74 at the time of her death, was best known to TV audiences for her role as waitress Vera on Alice.
