Tonight’s Premieres:
ABC: Extreme Weight Loss at 9p
Esquire: Knife Fight at 10p
FOX: Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? at 8p
HGTV: Flipping the Heartland at 11p and 11:30p
NBC: America’s Got Talent at 8p, I Can Do That at 10p

Tonight’s Finales:

TLC yanked 19 Kids and Counting repeats from its lineup amid reports that oldest son Josh Duggar molested five underage girls, including his sisters, 12 years ago. Duggar issued an apology on Thursday, admitting he’d acted “inexcusably” and saying he had confessed to his parents, “who took several steps to help me address the situation.” According to a 2006 police report, the elder Duggars reported their son’s actions to police; no charges were filed. TLC announced Friday it was pulling the show off the air, saying, “We are deeply saddened and troubled by this heartbreaking situation, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and victims at this difficult time.”

IN THE NEWS

FX is back in business with Kurt Sutter with a first season order for period drama The Bastard Executioner, after pilot production wrapped in Wales. “From his important contributions to The Shield to his epic run on Sons of Anarchy, Kurt has been one of FX’s most visionary artists, and we are proud to get him back on the air so soon after the unquestionable success of Sons,” said John Landgraf, CEO, FX Networks and FX Productions. Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions are producing.

Charter Communications is has agreed to buy Time Warner Cable for about $55 billion, reported Bloomberg on Sunday. Charter’s first bid for TWC failed when Comcast stepped in with an offer in 2014 that ultimately did not win regulatory approval. Altice’s Patrick Drahi met last week with TWC chief Rob Marcus to talk takeover, reports the Wall Street Journal. The French telecom group had just announced plans to acquire controlling interest in cable operator Suddenlink Communications for $9.1 billion.

The pilot for CBS drama Supergirl, set to premiere in November, was leaked online. The episode reportedly does not include watermarks that would indicate it is an advance screening copy, as was the case when season five Game of Thrones eps were leaked April.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will not be participating in Netflix’s reboot of Full House, but “are still very much considered part of the family,” said exec producer Robert L. Boyett. “I support their choice to focus on their fashion brands and various business endeavors.”

Should 19 Kids and Counting be canceled? Let us know in the new Cynopsis poll.

Just ecstatic,” said McHale. “After my stunning victory in the Iditarod this year by only using six Bichon Frises and a lamb, I think the sports world saw me as the logical host.”

Two days away! The market opportunity for OTT is massive, but discerning the right business model is no simple task. Faced with a generation that consumes content but doesn’t expect to pay for it, content owners, advertisers, networks and station groups are struggling with the question: Where will revenue come from? For insights into the challenge, and examples of what’s working, register for the Cynopsis webinar, Surviving Disruption: The Latest Strategies for Monetizing OTT on Thursday, May 28.

BRANDS AND ADVERTISING

Spending for the current TV season is down 5 percent, according to Standard Media Index. “SMI’s data reinforces what most commentators are saying, which is that traditional media continues to remain soft as brands expand their investment in digital,” said James Fennessy, chief commercial officer at SMI. “We see large traditional TV advertisers, like retail and financial services, move significant dollars into digital at the expense of their television spend.” In the scatter market, broadcast is up 19 percent and cable popped up 16 percent.

DISTRIBUTION & CARRIAGE

9 Story Media Group licensed the second season of preschool series Daniel Tiger’s Neighbourhood to Disney Junior Latin America. The first season premiered on the Latin American network in 2013.

RATINGS

The series finale AMC’s Mad Men delivered a best-ever 4.6 million viewers and 2.5 million A25-54 in Live+3 ratings. “While it’s true that AMC’s Mad Men ended with its highest-ever live+3 ratings, we believe the most meaningful metric for this iconic series will turn out to be live+forever,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “We hope Matthew Weiner and the many extraordinarily talented people who helped elevate his vision over the last decade are smiling and finding peace like Don Draper at Esalen.”

Part one of E!’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians: About Bruce special, which premiered Sunday, May 17 at 9p, delivered 2.8 million viewers A18-49 and 4.2million total viewers in Live+3, the most-watched premiere since September 2012.

Sunday’s Game 3 averaged 7.8 million total viewers and a 4.7HH rating, the most-viewed and highest-rated program of the day across all of television, per metered market ratings.

Thursday A18-49 Analysis: CBS won the most A18-49 viewers Thursday with 1.1/4, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.
