PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT
Trial & Error will return to NBC for a second season. The network closed the deal for a 10-ep season 2 of the comedy from Warner Bros TV. Trial & Error will return in midseason.
Family Matters: Modern Family is getting a new senior creative duo. Sitcom veterans Jack Burditt and Bill Wrubel are in as executive producers for the ABC series; out are executive producer Chuck Tatham, co-executive producer Andy Gordon and consulting producer Christy Stratton. The show recently was renewed for a ninth and tenth season.
Freeform is going to College-ish. The network picked up 13 episodes of the scripted spin-off of ABC’s Black-ish, starring Yara Shahidi. Dean Cole also stars in the comedy, slated to premiere in early 2018 on Freeform. College-ish follows the Johnsons’ eldest daughter Zoey (Shahidi) as she heads off to college. Kenya Barris, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and Brian Dobbins are executive producers of the series, from ABC Studios.
Ahead of its season 2 finale, HBO has picked up a third season of adult animated series Animals. Animals, created by Phil Matarese & Mike Luciano of Duplass Brothers Productions, focuses on the creatures native to Earth’s least-habitable environment: NYC – from lovelorn rats to gender-questioning pigeons to aging bedbugs. Guests who’ve graced the show thus far include Fred Armisen, Jessica Chastain, Whoopi Goldberg and Kurt Vile.
Investigation Discovery announced a green light for a sophomore season of original series Murder Chose Me. Series features stories and case files from Shreveport, LA, detective Rod Demery from his 14 years as a homicide detective. Ten new episodes will air exclusively on ID in early 2018.
Chuck Rose, creator of Crackle original series The Art of More, signed an exclusive two-year overall deal with Universal Television. He’ll develop new series projects for the studio.
