Iconic rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar has been set as NBC’s next live musical, airing on Easter 2018. The TV version of the 1971 Broadway smash will be executive produced by a crew who know a thing or two about live productions: the original’s Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, as well as Marc Platt, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Casting is in early days, but “we want to fill out this classic show with as many recording artists as possible,” said Robert Greenblatt, chairman, NBC Entertainment.
The clock’s run out for NBC’s Timeless, which will not be back for a second season. Series star Matt Lanter tweeted that the time travel drama is being shopped to other networks.

Kerr called expensive, heavily marketed originals like Underground and Outsiders “kind of islands…the audience wouldn’t stay for the rest of our day,” and promised a more efficient slate of originals that would carry the audience to other dayparts. Sinclair Broadcast Group has agreed to buy Tribune for $3.9 billion.
ABC Shondaland drama Scandal, currently in season 6, will end with season 7, sources told TVLine. Series creator Shonda Rhimes reportedly made the call.
DHX Media ’s $345 million acquisition of the entertainment division of Iconix Brand Group gives it an 80% controlling interest in Peanuts and 100% control of Strawberry Shortcake IP. “DHX Media feels like the perfect fit for Peanuts,” said Jean Schultz, widow of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schultz, of the Teletubbies owner. “We respect their innovative and rich history with developing children’s shows and brands.” Deal is slated to close around the end of June.
