The Late Show With Stephen Colbert placed first again in the weekly late night ratings, winning by its largest margin since the show’s premiere in September 2015, according to Nielsen Live+SD ratings for the week ending May 5. The show averaged 3.06 million viewers, up +12% from last week (2.74 million) and +19% from the same week last year (2.57 million).
Stone House Revival , the DIY Network home renovation series, delivered its highest-rated episode among viewers A25-54 since May 2016 on Wednesday, May 3, at 9:30p. The second-season episode garnered ratings that were up +81% versus year-ago levels in the timeslot. More than 500,000 total viewers tuned in to watch the episode on Wednesday night.
Science Channel tied for its highest rated April ever among A25-54, W25-54 and Total Viewers P+2, matching its record setting numbers of April 2016. On strength of the sophomore season of Impossible Engineering and freshman series Mysteries of the Abandoned, Thursdays saw a 27% increase versus one year ago with A25-54. On Saturdays the network gained 56% versus a year ago with A25-54, according to Nielsen L+3 ratings.
The new season premiere of TLC’s Little People Big World earned its best ratings since the fall of 2014 and ranked #2 on cable in its Tuesday night time period among W25-54. The return earned 2.5M P2+ viewers.
Estrella TV delivered a +14% growth in Total Day, tied with Telemundo among A18-49, according to the network. Estrella TV delivered the highest growth among Spanish language broadcast networks in Total Day (M-SU 6a-6a) season to date as compared to same period in 2015-2016.
With the finale of Univision’s Vino El Amor and the premiere of La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo, the net out-delivered CBS, FOX and CW for the night among A18-34. 4.9 million total viewers 2+ tuned in to all or part of the debut of La Doble Vida de Estela on Univision and UniMás
In syndication news, the May sweep survey period (April 27 – May 24) got underway in the session ending April 30 with Dr Phil (3.4 Live+SD national Nielsen rating, up 3% from the week before) hitting a seven-week high and darting to an early sweep lead in the closely watched talk show race. Phil was also up the most from last year of any talker, increasing 10% and leading the circuit for a 34th straight week. Ellen DeGeneres (2.3, up 5%) snatched sole possession of second place in talk for the first time in almost three months, while Live with Kelly (2.1, down 5%) ran third in its final week before co-host Ryan Seacrest joined the program. In the overnight ratings for the frame ended May 7, the first week of the newly named Live with Kelly & Ryan improved 18% from the previous week to a 2.6/9 in the 56 metered markets, winning or coming in second in its time slots in 13 of the top 15 markets, including nine of the top 10.
In access, Family Feud (6.5, up 3%) finished first among the quiz shows as usual. The highest-rated show in syndication overall for the fifth week in a row was Judge Judy (6.7, up 3%), which jumped to a three-week high despite airing reruns on most days.
