A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM SCREENVISION MEDIA
Stand out. Stand tall. 40 feet tall.
ScreenvisionMedia.com.Ryan Murphy got a straight-to-series order from FX for anthology series Feud, starring Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford and Susan Sarandon as nemesis Bette Davis. Not enough starpower? Brad Pitt will serve as an exec producer with Murphy and Dede Gardner; Sarandon and Lange are producing. Each season of the show will center on a different epic battle. Murphy already has anthologies American Horror Story and American Crime Story at the network.
Shirley MacLaine and Matthew Broderick are attached to star in Paramount Television dramedy Bettyville. The story, about a man who relocates to care for his aging mother, is based on the memoir by George Hodgman. “Paramount TV could not be in better hands than those of Shirley MacLaine and Matthew Broderick,” said company president Amy Powell of the pairing, “two incredibly versatile talents who know how to marry drama with comedy.”
Supergirl could be flying over to a new network. According to TheWrap, CBS boss Les Moonves is in talks with Warner Bros. Television over the freshman show. While the net would like it back next season, sources said the roughly $3 million per-episode price CBS pays to broadcast the show isn’t quite justified by the ratings. (Series debuted to 13 million total viewers, but lost half its audience over the season, according to Nielsen.) Moonves could move Supergirl to The CW, which is a joint venture between CBS and Warners. Supergirl would feel at home – CW already has The Flash and other superhero franchises.
Discovery Communications reported 1Q16 results that included a 2 percent increase in revenue, to $1.561 million. “I remain optimistic about our overall operating and financial prospects, the opportunities ahead, and our potential to deliver significant shareholder value,” said David Zaslav, president and CEO, on Thursday. Zaslav did acknowledge that Discovery was “hurt a little more than others by the news networks,” as viewers flocked to the likes of CNN and Fox News for election coverage. The company also is preparing for possible layoffs that would allow it to “operate in a leaner and more directed cost structure and invest in growth initiatives, including digital services and content creation,” according to an SEC filing. A voluntary buyout program is underway.
