Pay-TV video customer losses totaled 762,000 in 1Q17, said MoffettNathanson analyst Craig Moffett, versus 141,000 during the same period a year earlier. “For the better part of 15 years, pundits have predicted that cord-cutting was the future,” Moffett said in a note to investors. “Well, the future has arrived.” Noting that current OTT offerings seem to be cannibalizing the same satellite providers and base, Moffett said, “It’s just a shift in what’s the base as opposed to actually growing the market.”
It’s over and out after 3 seasons for Girl Meets World, which had its finale on Disney Channel in January. The show’s creators had hoped to keep the show alive, but on Wednesday Michael Jacobs tweeted, “I wasn’t able to find a new venue for the show. I’m sorry. We brought our best and hope we made you think and feel.”
CMT announced a summer slate that blends music events, specials and series hoping to “convert more newly-arrived fans to frequent viewers,” said net president Brian Philips. The 2017 CMT Music Awards premieres live on Wednesday, June 7 at 8p, and CMT Instant Jam with Brett Eldredge arrives Friday, June 16 at 10p.In addition, CMT will premiere the first-ever ever outdoor CMT Crossroads with Grammy-Award winners Earth Wind & Fire on Friday June 23 at 10p.
On the CMT series front, the midseason premiere for Nashville is set for Thursday, June 1 at 9p, along with digital aftershow series Nashchat. Still the King is back for season 2 on Tuesday, July 11 at 10p, and Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders: Making the Team and I Love Kellie Pickler are back Thursday, August 3 at 10p and 11p. Movie To Joey, With Love, about the true story of Joey and Rory Feek, has its broadcast premiere Wednesday, June 21 at 8p.
Add Scripps Networks Interactive nets to Hulu’s live streaming service, a beta version of which launched yesterday. Joining channels from 21st Century Fox, The Walt Disney Company, NBCUniversal, CBS Corp., Turner Networks and A+E Networks will be HGTV, Food Network, Travel Channel, DIY, Cooking Channel and Great American Country.
“Our networks attract large upscale audiences looking for compelling family-friendly content,” said Scripps Networks Interactive chairman, president & CEO Kenneth W. Lowe. “Hulu has already built a strong and loyal customer base, and the new live TV streaming service will be an important addition.”
In more Scripps news, the company continues its reach into the digital realm with an agreement to acquire millennial-focused media company Spoon University. “Spoon University captures the grassroots passion for food and community that is so important to millennials today,” said Kathleen Finch, Scripps Networks Interactive’s chief programming, content & brand officer. “Food Network has become a significant force in digital and social food storytelling over the course of the last year, and this acquisition will provide us with the opportunity to build content, community and brand as we seek to accelerate our strategy in the sector.”
Hulu nabbed SVOD rights to FX comedy Atlanta and, in a deal struck “minutes” before the service’s NewFront event yesterday, SVOD rights for hit This Is Us shared with NBC.
Sinclair Broadcast Group and MGM’s ThisTV are thinking small. The companies are launching national multiplatform programming block KidsClick, consisting of long-form and short-form content for kids, with a hyper-local advertising/promotional component, on July 1. “Our decision to re-enter the kids’ space with KidsClick is a natural step for Sinclair as we expand our reach to the next generation of broadcast viewers,” said Steve Marks, EVP and COO for Sinclair’s television group.

Paramount Network greenlit family drama series Yellowstone, written and directed by Taylor Sheridan (Sicario) and exec produced by The Weinstein Company with John and Art Linson (Sons of Anarchy). Danny DeVito and Jeff Goldblum will play battling musicians in a half-hour comedy being developed by Amazon and Imagine Television. Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo will exec produce.

T Group Productions announced an overall co-production deal with Simon Lythgoe (American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance) and his Legacy Productions calling for Lythgoe to create, develop and produce unscripted programming, with a focus on formats and live events, to be co-produced with T Group in the United States, Canada and the UK. Former Jimmy Kimmel Live! exec producer Duncan Gray formed production company Twenty Six 03 Entertainment in a joint venture with Cineflex Media, aimed at creating formats and series for the global market.
Nomadic Pictures started production on paranormal action series Ghost Wars. 13-hour drama is slated to launch in the U.S. on Syfy and elsewhere globally on Netflix later this year.
Content Studio Gunpowder & Sky is teaming with YouTube daredevil Zach Holmes to develop a next generation stunt series, Too Stupid to Die. “The first time I saw one of Zach’s videos I dropped everything and spent the day stalking his social media,” said David Harris, Gunpowder & Sky’s SVP of development. “I haven’t seen anyone as fearless, funny or creative since the Jackass guys.” Pilot has already been shot.
Keith Eisner (The Good Wife) inked an agreement to serve as executive producer and showrunner of ABC’s Designated Survivor if the drama is, as it is expected to be, picked up for a second season. Eisner would replace Jeff Melvoin in the showrunner position, but Melvoin would remain in his EP role.

Buckling up with James Corden for CBS’s The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special on Monday, May 22 at 10p will be Katy Perry and Jennifer Lopez. Last year’s Karaoke special earned an Emmy.
There will be no envelope opening at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. Instead, Lovepop is creating 3D popup cards to reveal the winners during the ABC ceremony on Sunday, May 21 at 8p. Lovepop, best known for its 3D paper sculptures, was introduced on Shark Tank in 2015.
Showtime set Friday, June 9 as the premiere date for Becoming Cary Grant. The doc will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
HBO will not be renewing its library distribution deal with Amazon when it expires in mid-2018, HBO chairman and CEO Richard Pepler told analysts yesterday. “As we see the progress and sub revenue acceleration in our digital business, I don’t think you’re going to see us extend or expand our relationship with our library programming on Amazon, and we have no plans to do that before the end of the date,” said Pepler. Since HBO and Amazon struck the library deal in 2014, HBO has launched its own service, HBO Now.
