RATINGS
Dr. Phil (3.3 Live+SD national Nielsen rating, up 3% from the week before) led the talk show circuit for the 33rd week in a row. Live With Kelly (2.2 steady), which has beaten rival Ellen DeGeneres (2.2, up 10%) nine times in the past 10 weeks, fought to a second place tie with DeGeneres. In other Live With Kelly news, the May 1 debut of new cohost Ryan Seacrest gave the show time period wins in each of the top five markets, as overnight ratings jumped 44% from the prior Monday to a 3.1/11 metered market average.
Back in the week’s national ratings, other programs in the genre with double digit growth were Crime Watch Daily (1.0, up 11%), which grew an average 1.3 million viewers each day, and Harry (1.0, up 11%), which averaged north of 1.2 million viewers each day.
Most of the top tier magazines were in positive territory with leader Entertainment Tonight (3.0, up 3%) heading the class for the 38th consecutive week. The biggest gainers were Access Hollywood (1.4, up 17%) and Extra (1.2, up 9%), which surged despite not airing in numerous markets due to political and baseball preemptions.
Nickelodeon closed April as the top rated kids network among Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11 and Kids 2-5, with year-over-year growth in each demo (+5% with K2-11; +6% with K6-11; +4% with K2-5) in total day.
