Sports streamer DAZN and AI-based social analytics company Videocites are teaming to battle sports content piracy in social media. “By swiftly removing pirated streams from social media platforms, we disrupt the viewing experience, which in turn demotivates consumers from accessing them in the future and encourages them to seek a legitimate service,” said Sandeep Tiku, Chief Technology Officer at DAZN Group.

The European Union hit Meta with a $1.3 billion privacy fine, the EU’s largest ever, and ordered the company to stop transferring user data across the Atlantic by October. Calling the decision flawed and unjustified, Meta said it would appeal and asked courts to put the decision on hold.

Meanwhile, Meta launched a new round of layoffs last week. Part of the company’s “Year of Efficiency,” the cuts, which largely focused on business roles, impacted about 6000 people.

BMW has inked a deal with Xperi that will give owners of the new BMW series access to linear and on demand streaming services via the Powered by TiVo platform. “Our independent media platform strategy is well suited for the automotive industry as they make advancements in in-cabin technology and creating new and adaptive experiences,” said Jon Kirchner, CEO of Xperi. “Unlike existing platforms, the Powered by TiVo platform traverses entertainment mediums and gives OEMs significantly more control over the user experience.”

Shutterstock is acquiring Giphy from Meta for $53 million. Meta acquired the GIF search engine for $400 million three years ago, but the UK’s Competition and Market Authority ordered a sale in the fall of 2021, saying the united companies would harm competition in social media and advertising.

Amazon announced plans to invest $12.7 billion into its cloud business in India, the world’s second largest internet market, by 2030. “AWS is committed to driving positive social and economic impact in India,” said Puneet Chandok, President of Commercial Business at AWS India and South Asia. “In addition to building cloud infrastructure and helping local customers and partners digitally transform, we have trained more than four million people in India with cloud skills since 2017, and invested in six utility-scale renewable energy projects to meet our global 100% renewable energy goal by 2025.”

OpenVault announced that a patent application for helping cable and fiber broadband providers to define and apply targeted policies dynamically has been approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. “System and Method for Applying CMTS Management Policies Based on Individual Devices” describes how a provider can fully automate policy management and enforcement to align with network conditions and subscriber behavior. A patent number is expected to be awarded in the near future.

Inscape has launched Commercial Feed+, an enhanced and expanded commercial dataset that places an emphasis on streaming. Commercial Feed+ is aimed at helping the industry better understand ad effectiveness and the impact of TV commercial exposures in a holistic approach, across linear and streaming platforms.

Advertising platform MobileFuse released the latest version of video offering, Fusion Video. The newest version utilizes AI to create outstream video placements, while taking into account performance and consumers when automatically building the video ad units. “The new AI-enhanced Fusion Video-Outstream solution unlocks uniquely affordable video rates with strong ROIs for advertisers – and unearths a significant revenue source for publishers,” said Ken Harlan, Founder and CEO of MobileFuse.

Omnichannel ad exchange ShareThrough is launching Green PMPs for CTV ad campaigns in partnership with Scope3, helping ad buyers reduce their carbon footprint. For every CTV campaign delivered on GreenPMPs™, Scope3 will measure the carbon emissions of the entire programmatic supply chain, then Sharethrough will allocate part of the media cost towards high-quality carbon removal projects while simultaneously optimizing campaign delivery to reduce its overall carbon footprint.

Digital marketing company WunderKIND announced the launch of WunderKIND Ads, building upon the company’s Post Content Ads solution introduced in 2017. WunderKIND Ads leverages the company’s proprietary technology that recognizes real-time consumer behavior to give brands the ability to serve ads to potential customers.

STREAMING

Netflix is cracking down even further on password sharing – premium subscribers will have to pay $7.99 monthly in order to add a member. In an email to subscribers, the streamer said, “Your Netflix account is for you and the people you live with.” Users now have to choose a primary location. Added Netflix, “We recognize that our members have many entertainment choices. It’s why we continue to invest heavily in a wide variety of new films and TV shows — so whatever your taste, mood or language and whoever you’re watching with, there’s always something satisfying to watch on Netflix.” As long as you’re at your mom’s house.

Comcast is launching a hybrid linear-streaming service for $20 per month. NOW TV will include Peacock Premium at no additional cost, more than 40 linear channels – including A&E, AMC and Food Network – and over 20 ad-supported FAST channels, including NBC News Now, Sky News and more. “With content and connectivity at the core of our company, we are uniquely positioned to build and deliver streaming entertainment offerings unlike anything else out there today,” said Dave Watson, Comcast Cable president and CEO.

Streaming services’ reliance on scripted programming could mean trouble if the writers’ strike doesn’t end soon. According to data from Diesel Labs, 64% of programming from the nine major streamers released in 2022 was scripted, led by Apple TV with 79% and Netflix, with 76%. Likely least affected by the strike will be discovery+, where just 11% of its titles fell into the scripted category last year.

Blue Ant Media has launched FAST channels Homeful and Love Pets on VIZIO WatchFree+. Homeful features real estate, renovation and transformation series and is home to TV reno celebrity, Mike Holmes’ catalog of i home series and specials. Love Pets features heartfelt stories about animals and the people who care for them.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment transactional VOD service Redbox had its largest revenue week in the company’s history with its debut of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” “It’s clear that movie fans have a voracious, pent-up demand for big new release movies, which is something we’ve long expected,” said William J. Rouhana Jr., CEO of CSSE. “We will have major releases coming to our kiosks every week through the end of the year.”
