Next in line: Mike Pence. The former VP has been booked for CNN’s third town hall for Republican presidential candidates. Moderating the event, taking place Wednesday, June 7 at 9p in Iowa, will be Dana Bash. Pence’s town hall will come on the heels of Nikki Haley’s upcoming June 4 gathering, and Donald Trump’s on May 10.

BMW has inked a deal with Xperi that will bring access to linear TV and on demand streaming services to car owners via the Powered by TiVo platform by the end of 2023. “Our independent media platform strategy is well suited for the automotive industry as they make advancements in in-cabin technology and creating new and adaptive experiences,” said Jon Kirchner, CEO of Xperi. “Unlike existing platforms, the Powered by TiVo platform traverses entertainment mediums and gives OEMs significantly more control over the user experience.”

“Citadel” landed a season two order from Prime Video. The spy thriller is Prime Video’s most-watched original series outside the US, and fourth most-watched worldwide. “’Citadel’ is a truly global phenomenon,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon and MGM Studios. “Our goal was always to create a new franchise rooted in original IP that would grow Prime Video’s international audience. This show has drawn an outsize number of new international customers to Prime Video.”

CNN en Espanol is streamlining its linear news output, shifting production to its Mexico City bureau and introducing new cross-platform programming, wrote Cynthia Darr Hudson, SVP and Managing Director of CNN en Espanol and Hispanic Strategy for CNN, to employees. “We will also be investing in CNNE’s digital platform, safeguarding CNNE’s newsgathering strength in the US and utilizing our network-wide investments in content management to create a greatly enhanced digital experience,” she continued.

E.W. Scripps is making a big bet on news, with plans to invest nearly $10 million to attract the best journalists and add about 250 people to reporting teams. In a statement, the company said it is rethinking its approach to local news coverage and content, “and the way we talk to our viewers/audiences through branding and promotion.” Scripps News coverage will also be more deeply integrated into local news products, “allowing for a sharper focus on the reporting and stories that serve our communities and make the markets where we operate better places to live.”

Another casualty of the WGA writers’ strike? The Paley Center’s “Ted Lasso” season three finale event slated for May 30 has been canceled “due to unforeseen circumstances.” Ticket holders will automatically be issued a refund.

Strong Studios (“Safehaven,” “Inside the Black Box”) is developing a true crime drama series “Hall Mills Murders,” based on a 1922 case that involved the town’s married priest and his mistress. Michael Angeli (“Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” “The 100”) is set to serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay of Jesse Collins Entertainment will executive produce the 75th Emmy Awards, airing live coast-to-coast from LA on Monday, September 18 at 8p on Fox. Emmy nominations will be announced July 12.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Season two of HGTV’S “Build it Forward” premieres Saturday, June 10 at 6p. In collaboration with home improvement chain Lowe’s, five community heroes will receive surprise renovations for their homes and community projects.

Docuseries “The Ride,” surrounding the world of PBR (Professional Bull Riders), premieres Tuesday, May 30 on Prime Video. The show is a first-of-its-kind, behind-the-scenes look at one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.

“Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire” starts streaming Wednesday, July 5 on Disney+. The 10-part collection of animated short films features stories from creators hailing from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

Four-part “Burden of Proof” debuts with the first two episodes Tuesday, June 6 at 9p on HBO followed by the final two episodes on Wednesday, June 7. The entire series will be available to stream on Max beginning Tuesday, June 6. The true crime series follows a man’s search for the truth about his long-missing sister.

The third and final season of HBO’s “How to with John Wilson” launches Friday, July 28 at 11p. “John has changed the way we look at the world and the way we go about our days,” said Amy Gravitt, EVP, HBO & HBO Max Comedy Programming. “‘How To’ is as singular as John is.”

Netflix’s “Sweet Magnolias” returns for season three on Thursday, July 20. The drama follows lifelong friends in a small southern town.

COMING UP

To promote the season two premiere of “And Just Like That”, Max is launching a four-day celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary at 477 Broadway in NYC from Thursday, June 8 to Sunday, June 11. This experience is designed to immerse fans in the world of the HBO series “Sex and the City,” offering the opportunity to relive moments from the show (and get a photo in front of Carrie’s laptop). Admission is free to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bounce TV will honor Tina Turner with a special presentation of 2021 documentary “Tina Turner: Simply the Best” on Saturday, May 27 at 9p. The Queen of Rock died May 24 at age 83.

Pride Live will host the return of Stonewall Day Unplugged on Wednesday, May 31at Edge at Hudson Yards in NYC. The event will be livestreamed by Google, Pride Live’s streaming partner, and will feature a headline performance by pop singer and Eurovision winner Netta, along with additional performances.

All 11 episodes of “Zero to Sixty” will run consecutively to mark Memorial Day, beginning May 29 at 8a on Speedvision. The auto entertainment network is now streaming as a free ad-supported television FAST network.

E!, in partnership with NBC News Studios and Unanimous Media, explores the influence of Black culture in “Black Pop: Celebrating the Power of Black Culture.” The two-night special event, executive produced by Stephen Curry and narrated by La La Anthony, premieres June 19 at 8p.

Peacock is offering a limited-time promotion of $19.99 for an annual subscription, a 60% discount off the regular price. It’s not the only streaming deal in town – Hulu’s offering a $2/month deal, and the Paramount+’ with Showtime bundle is $11.99/month.

ViX’s premium tier has joined Roku’s premium subscription lineup. The tier is available for $6.99/month.

Meta has begun its third round of layoffs, this time focused on its business groups. CEO Mark Zuckerberg had warned that as part of the company’s “year of efficiency” a fresh round of layoffs would commence in late May.

DirecTV isn’t completely out of the game. After holding rights to NFL Sunday Ticket for close to 30 years, DirecTV had to toss the package beginning with the 2023 season to YouTube. But in a new twist, DirecTV has struck a deal with the NFL’s EverPass Media to distribute NFL Sunday Ticket in bars, restaurants and other commercial venues. DirecTV says its commercial unit includes over 300,000 locations.

Hilinski’s Hope Foundation announced its plans for the annual “Student Athlete Mental Health Week,” a rebranded continuation of previous efforts to unite coaches and players to eliminate stigma and increase mental health resources at their universities and colleges. The foundation was created in 2018 by Mark and Kym Hilinski to honor the legacy of their son, Tyler, a former quarterback for Washington State University who died by suicide.

CBS wrapped the 2022-23 broadcast season with an average 5.96 million primetime viewers, making it the most-watched broadcast network for the 15th consecutive year. The net boasted the most-viewed comedy (“Young Sheldon”), new drama (“Fire Country”), and drama (“NCIS”). Fox led among A18-49, averaging 1.0, followed by 0.9 for CBS. Overall TV usage was down 9% versus the 2021-22 season, according to Nielsen.
