More than 19 million UK viewers tuned in for The Coronation of King Charles III. That beats the 13 million viewers for last year’s Platinum Jubilee celebration, but short of the 28 million viewers who watched coverage of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. BBC1 drew 13 million viewers, while BBC2’s sign language coverage reached 1.7 million viewers, and ITV’s figure climbed to nearly 3.3 million total viewers.

Fox Corp. sent a cease-and-desist letter to Media Matters over Tucker Carlson videos. The company claimed the clips of Carlson making offensive remarks were given to Media Matters “without [their] authorization.” Legal counsel representing Fox wrote, “That unaired footage is Fox’s confidential intellectual property; Fox did not consent to its distribution or publication; and Fox does not consent to its further distribution or publication.” The letter continued, “Fox demands that Media Matters cease and desist from distribution, publication, and misuse of Fox’s misappropriated proprietary footage, which you are now on notice was unlawfully obtained. We reserve all rights and remedies.”

Due to the WGA strike, “Stranger Things” final season production has been pushed, “Evil” production was shut down by picketers, Apple’s “Loot” with Maya Rudolph and HBO’s “Hacks” halted production, SNL hosting gigs have been postponed or canceled and the MTV Movie & TV Awards will now be a pre-taped special. David Mandel of “Veep” and “White House Plumbers” predicted the WGA strike will be “long and bloody.” Stars, writers and showrunners have joined the picket lines in solidarity, including Pete Davison, Natasha Lyonne, Cynthia Nixon, Rob Lowe and more.

Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer maintains buying Netflix or Hulu over Tumblr “would have been a better acquisition.” Mayer led the company when it purchased the blogging platform for $1.1 billion in 2013, and said, “We looked at a transformative acquisition, and we bought Tumblr…At the same time, we were also considering whether it was possible to buy Hulu or, ironically, Netflix. And I think Netflix was $4 billion and Hulu was at $1.3 billion at the time. And either of those, with hindsight being 20/20, would have been a better acquisition.”

Eight CBS stations are leaving The CW. Representing 13.9% of US TV households, the channels WPSG Philadelphia, WUPA Atlanta, KBCW San Francisco, KSTW Seattle, WTOG Tampa-St. Petersburg, WKBD Detroit, KMAX Sacramento and WPCW Pittsburg will drop CW affiliation to go independent in September. “We look forward to reimagining these stations as independents while leveraging the considerable value of their prime-time real estate in each of the markets,” said Wendy McMahon, president and co-head, CBS News and Stations.

Christina Applegate, living with the challenges of MS, said she probably won’t work on-camera again. “I can’t even imagine going to set right now,” the Emmy winner told Vanity Fair. “This is a progressive disease. I don’t know if I’m going to get worse. I can do voiceover stuff because I have to support my family and keep my brain working,” she said. An animated spinoff of “Married… with Children” is currently in the works, in which Applegate could reprise her role as Kelly Bundy.

CBS has canceled “S.W.A.T.” after six seasons. The series recently saw an uptick in viewership, currently averaging 6.8 million total viewers and a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49, according to Nielsen’s April data. Lead actor Shemar Moore shared his frustration on Instagram, saying, “For CBS, [the] last two years we’ve been killing it… We’ve done nothing wrong. We did everything that was asked for.” Moore ended the video with, “Make some f—— noise. And let them know that canceling ‘S.W.A.T.’ is a f—— mistake.”

Also coming to an end is “Call Me Kat,” after three seasons. “We are very proud of ‘Call Me Kat,’” said Fox in a statement. “But, unfortunately, the audience response to it was not as strong as we had hoped. We are thankful for our partnership with Warner Bros. Television, That’s Wonderful Productions, Sad Clown Productions, BBC Studios, Mayim Bialik, Jim Parsons and the entire cast and crew for their work and dedication.”

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Paramount is expanding the “Yellowstone” universe with a new sequel. Premiering in December on the network, the next saga from Taylor Sheridan has been greenlit straight-to-series in the lead-up to the final cycle of the original series, which debuts in November. “The Dutton story continues, picking up where ‘Yellowstone’ leaves off in another epic tale,” said David Glasser, 101 Studios CEO. “We are thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world.”

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Season two of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” premieres July 14. Original cast members Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer will return for the eight-episode season, this time joined by Kyra Sedgwick. Three episodes are set to debut on premiere day, with new episodes released weekly through August 18.

CASTING

Molly Gordon has signed on to star in “The Bear” season two. Premiering in June on Hulu, Gordon will appear alongside season one cast members who are returning to the kitchen, including Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce and Liza Colón-Zayas.

Robert Patrick has replaced Rory Cochrane in Prime Video’s “Reacher.” Cochrane was originally cast in the role last September; the “Peacemaker” and “The Night Agent” actor will take over to star opposite Alan Ritchson as a NYPD detective with a questionable track record.
