On the first day of the NFL Draft, Raiders owner Mark Davis announced Las Vegas as his pick. Davis addressed the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee on Thursday (accompanied by David Beckham) and pledged to add $500 million toward a $1.4 billion new stadium in Las Vegas and move the team if the rest of the funding, outside of an additional contribution from billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson, is approved by the Nevada State Legislature. The project would likely take
three years to complete if approved, with Davis adding that the team would likely play one preseason game a year at Sam Boyd Stadium in Vegas while maintaining their headquarters in Alameda and play home games at the Oakland Coliseum until the venue is complete. Despite doubts from pundits that league owners would approve the move, due to the proximity of gambling, Davis expressed confidence the league would ultimately approve the move. “I think we’ll make them an offer they can’t refuse,” Davis said. “Together we can turn the Silver State into the silver and black state.”
Wednesday night saw the NBA on TNT doubleheader (pitting Hornets/Heat and Rockets/Warriors) average 3.4 million viewers for the network, marking a 40% spike over 2015’s comparable games. The Warriors’ series-clinching win on the channel averaged 3.7 million total viewers, up 25% vs. 2015 coverage, while Hornets/Heat averaged 3.1 million total viewers for a 67% markup.
Thursday Night Football will apparently become a Mike Tirico/Cris Collinsworth tandem, according to the Miami Herald. The report stated that Collinsworth will work both the Sunday and Thursday Night packages this season when NBC’s half of TNF launches on Nov. 3.
Rutledge Wood is set to shift from NASCAR to horses when NBC Sports Group hits Churchill Downs for the 2016 Kentucky Derby as an event and red carpet reporter (May 7 at 4p on NBC). Wood will also serve as a reporter on the pink carpet for the Kentucky Oaks on May 6 on NBCSN.
The 2016 NHL Draft Lottery takes place tomorrow, determining the order of selection for the first 14 picks in the first round. The event will be held at Sportsnet’s Hockey Central Studio at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto with results announced during live television coverage of the event at 8p. For the first time, the 2016 NHL Draft Lottery will assign the top three slots in the first round of the NHL Draft.
UFC star Ronda Rousey inked a deal with Lifetime, according to Deadline, for three-movies that will "bring stories that reflect her passions about empowerment to the screen," according to the report.
The 27th annual American Century Championship locked in this year’s lineup of sports and entertainment stars for the July tournament. This year’s gathering will see 90 celebs take part from July 19 24 and carried on NBC and NBCSN. Among the players will be Charles Barkley, Justin Timberlake, Aaron Rodgers, Jerry Rice, John Elway, Larry Fitzgerald, Golden Tate, Brandon Marshall, Emmitt Smith, Andre Iguodala, T.J. Oshie, Hines Ward, NBC Sunday Night Football Analyst Cris Collinsworth, comedians Rob Riggle, Kevin Nealon and Larry the Cable Guy and coaches Jim Harbaugh, Brian Kelly, Marvin Lewis and Steve Kerr. In addition, the year’s event will feature the largest-ever contingent of six women including Abby Wambach, Heather LeMaster, Paige Spiranac, Kathryn Tappen and Golf Channel hosts Lisa Cornwell and Blair O’Neal.
Fight Sports nabbed exclusive rights to all media to the Canelo Alvarez/Amir Khan Event for over 40 countries around the world. The Middlewight World Championship bout will take place on May 7 from Las Vegas with the deals including Germany, Spain, the Nordic and Baltic territories, Italy and a slate of countries throughout Asia.

NESN announced that the Chevy Dealers of New England will be the exclusive presenting sponsor of the series Dining Playbook, hosted by Billy Costa and Jenny Johnson. Chevy Dealers of New England will receive in show branding, unique product integrations, Chevy branded tune-in promos during NESN’s Red Sox and Bruins games, outdoor signage, and digital & social media presence as part of the deal, along with prominent exposure during the Dining Playbook Gala event in November 2016.
DIRECTV announced that NFL Sunday Ticket subscribers will be able to stream out-of-market regular season football games during the new season as part of their package, removing the need to upgrade to the NFL Sunday Ticket Max subscription. According to the company, “the NFL Sunday Ticket subscription is the basic plan, while the ‘Max’ version is an upgraded version with more perks. Those who aren’t interested in the extra features but want to spend their Sundays watching out-of-market games can now do that with DirecTV and the basic Sunday Ticket subscription.”
ESPN Classic will now be available on-demand, anytime through the WatchESPN app on Apple TV and Roku. Customers who currently receive ESPN Classic as part of their video subscription will be able to access VOD content the platform. Events currently available to view include classic college football and college basketball games, ESPN Films and E:60, X Games, Indy 500, boxing matches featuring Muhammad Ali, poker main events, outdoor sports and more.
NBC Sports Radio’s brand new Sunday night show, The Leisuremen: Pabst & Perloff, after one broadcast and one show on demand, hit #3 on this week’s iTunes chart. New episodes run Sundays from 6-9p on NBC Sports Radio.
Turner and WME/IMG unveiled the regular season tournament format for the upcoming launch of ELeague, which will pit four teams against one another in group stages each week. Debuting May 24, the schedule for the first three weeks of regular season competition will include the likes of Astralis, Luminosity Gaming, Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) and more facing off for a chance to earn one of eight seats in the playoffs. During the weekly group stages, each of the four teams will play one another twice in a round-robin system on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Each victory will award the winning team with one point, which will be added up at the end of play on Wednesdays to rank the group. A semifinal for the group will be held on Thursdays matching up the 1st and 4th ranked teams and 2nd and 3rd ranked teams, with the winners of those matches competing in the Friday night showcase on TBS.
