NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

Netflix has officially jumped into the cable business. The streaming service signed a deal with three pay-TV operators to be available on living-room TV’s through set-top boxes made by TiVo. The three, RCN Telecom Services LLC, Atlantic Broadband and Grande Communications LLC, have fewer than one million in customers total. "Our view has long been that the marriage of linear television and streaming over-the-top TV is the future of television, and Netflix has clearly emerged as a must-have over-the-top service," TiVo President and CEO Tom Rogers said to Bloomberg.

AOL signed a distribution deal with Microsoft on Friday. This summer content from AOL brands will be available on MSN and Bing Apps for Windows Phone users. MSN sees more than 450 million unique visitors worldwide each month.

Fullscreen YouTube filmmaker and adventurer Devin Graham (Devin SuperTramp has almost 2 million subs), and Speed Stick GEAR launched a social media campaign as they attempt to capture the most extreme stunt on video. From now through May 6, fans can guess the stunt and the location from a series of clues on Graham’s Twitter @DevinSuperTramp using the hashtag #GearChallenge. "Partnerships like this allow my channel to create the projects we have always wanted to, and for my subscribers/followers, it means that they will get much better opportunities," Graham told Cynopsis. "What’s special about this specific project is that one fan will win the chance to be a part of the video itself, which is the biggest request we get. This is an awesome [opportunity] to make that happen."
 
Endemol USA, Blizzard Entertainment (World of Warcraft) and American Chopper‘s Paul Jr. debuted a reality series on WOW’s YouTube channel. The show, Azeroth Chopper, is a competition between expert designers to create a new motorcycle based on the two main warring institutions in the computer game. A new installment will premiere every Thursday, with eight total eps planned. Fans of the show can vote on their favorite design at AzerothChoppers.com.

House of Cards isn’t moving production from Maryland. Media Rights Capital, which threatened to pull up stakes if the Netflix drama didn’t get more tax breaks than it qualified for under state law, reached a deal for $11.5 million of the $15 million it had requested. "Spoiler alert: we’re going to keep the 3700 jobs and more than 100 million dollars of economic activity and investment that House of Cards generates right here in Maryland," said Governor Martin O’Malley. "Media Rights Capital has been a great supporter of the people and entertainment community in Maryland, and we couldn’t be happier to continue our partnership."

Hulu premiered its first original children’s programming series, called Doozers. From The Jim Henson Company (Dinosaur Train) and DHX Media (Yo Gabba Gabba), the 52-ep show is based on an animated companion to Fraggle Rock. A new ep will launch every three weeks, with five available now for free and seven for Hulu Plus subscribers.

Conde Nast Entertainment will renew onethird – or 21 shows – from its slate of original web programming. Returning shows include GQ‘s Casualties of the Gridiron, Wired‘s Codefellas and Glamour‘s Screw You Cancer. Last year, the 70 original web series totaled more than 1,000 episodes brought in 560 million views. CNE’s NewFront is tomorrow.

Netflix and Comcast continue to make public jabs at one another despite their recent partnership. Recode reports Comcast leveled a notable accusation at the streaming service, that Netflix impaired its own streams prior to their deal: "As at least one independent commentator has pointed out, it was not Comcast that was creating viewability issues for Netflix customers, it was Netflix’s commercial transit decisions that created this issue," Comcast wrote in a blog. Netflix already responded: "Comcast allows its links to the multiple Internet transit providers (ISPs)… to clog up. These are big transit providers we use to reach multiple ISPs without issue."
