Netflix will bow an animated take on Fast & Furious, the first series in its expanded deal with DreamWorks Animation Television. In this imagining, teenager Tony Toretto, cousin of Dom, is recruited by a government agency to infiltrate a crime organization posing as an elite racing league. The series is based on Universal’s uber successful film franchise, and is exec-produced by Vin Diesel, Neal Moritz and Chris Morgan, producers on the live-action movies. Tim Hedrick (DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender) and Bret Haaland (All Hail King Julien) are serving as exec producers and showrunners. Next iteration of the theatrical franchise drops in July 2019. As part of the ongoing deal, DreamWorks will create additional series based on original and acquired IP.
Family, faith and sports will be the focus of Steph Curry’s new studio at Sony Pictures Entertainment, which yesterday inked a development and production deal with the NBA superstar that will extend to TV, film, gaming, virtual reality and more. Curry’s new production house, Unanimous, was co-founded by Curry, CEO Jeron Smith and chief creative officer Erick Peyton.
WE Day California returned to the Forum in LA on Thursday, April 19 to celebrate young people committed to making a difference. Hulu ordered 10 episodes of PEN15, created by and starring Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle (Casual, Insecure, Man Seeking Woman). The comedy takes place in middle school, with Erskine and Konkle playing awkward 7th grade versions of themselves as 13-year-old outcasts in the year 2000, surrounded by actual 13-year-olds. In a testament to the power of shortform, the project landed at Hulu after 11-minute presentation from the duo, who are real-life besties. Erskine and Konkle write and exec produce with Sam Zvibleman.

Sarah Jeffrey will return to play Audrey, the daughter of Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), in Descendants 3, the upcoming third Disney Channel live-action movie in a trilogy about the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains. Disney celebrated Earth Day by dropping a trailer for its film Penguins, which will be released around the same day in 2019. From the company’s Disneynature division, the nonfiction film follows similar projects Chimpanzees and Bears but extends the storyline beyond the nature lens to focus on the drama of a specific penguin couple attempting to raise their family in harsh and unpredictable conditions.
9 Story Distribution International licensed animated series Luo Bao Bei to Channel 5’s Milkshake! in the UK. The show will launch on the preschool block on May 7.
Mondo TV announced a new 3-year deal with Discovery for Robot Trains to air on DKids, a Middle East pay TV channel owned by Discovery. Season 1 will debut in May; season 2 is slated to drop in February 2019. 
Entertainment One is in a new partnership with iQIYI that will see its preschool property Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom launch in China on a VOD platform in 2018. 2D animated series created by Astley Baker Davies follows the adventures of best friends in their magical kingdom.
Management company Sunrights announced the renewal of its animated series Beyblade Burst by New Zealand’s TVNZ. For season 2, under the banner Beyblade Burst Evolution. New season is airing now.
