NBC and SiriusXM struck a deal to air the Today show on the radio service starting June 26. The channel will offer live feeds of Today from both coasts. Said NBC News president Deborah Turness, "We are giving [fans] an opportunity to stay connected even longer when they get in their cars." SiriusXM currently simulcasts cable news channels including CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and CNBC.
Comcast and Time Warner Cable have held talks to possibly sell 3-5 million subscribers to Charter Communications, or spin off subs into a new company with Charter given a minority stake, ahead of the Comcast/TWC merger. Charter had tried to buy TWC in February, before Comcast stepped in.
Al Jazeera America has expanded Real Money with Ali Velshi to one hour. "Ali’s experience delivering relatable and accessible money news allows us to strengthen our coverage of important issues in the American economy," said net president Kate OBrian.
Netflix said Monday it will increase membership costs (currently $7.99 for unlimited streaming) for new subscribers later this quarter by a dollar or two. The fee for existing members would hold firm "for a generous time period."
Production on NBC‘s Last Comic Standing was halted on Monday by a strike, reports Deadline. Editors and assistant editors seeking a union contract walked off the reboot, slated for a Thursday, May 22 debut.
Ad-supported TV Everywhere content from A&E, History and Lifetime has launched on Apple TV, offering U.S. customers full episodes, movies and exclusive clips. A+E Networks subscribers (through participating television providers) will have access to additional content including previous seasons of series from the nets. "With the response we’ve seen from our content on iOS devices and on iTunes," said Dan Suratt, EVP, digital media & business development, "bringing A+E HD content to Apple TV is a natural evolution."
Carrie Underwood, Ellie Goulding and OneRepublic are the finalists for the Milestone Award presented by Chevrolet at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. The honor, voted on by fans, will be presented at the show Sunday, May 18 at 8p on ABC.
Tru TV greenlit six new series as part of its brand evolution, aimed at appealing to young "funseekers" of both sexes with "clever and buzz-worthy" programming. El Rey launched a multi-platform marketing program to support the final four episodes of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series that includes a party line (1-800-315-2744) in which a character from the series interacts with fans in "unforgettable and unduplicated" encounters, burlesque-style posters and mobile ads. And voice-activated urinal cakes. "The concept is sure to entice new viewers and appeal to the highly coveted demo of men 18-49, including the all-important millennial fan base," said Chad Blankenship, VP, consumer marketing & communications.
Sportsman Channel announced their annual partnership with The Cable Show 2014 for the net’s Hunt.Fish.Feed. event in LA on Monday, April 28 at 5p. The outreach effort uses game meat and fish donated by sportsmen to feed the hungry; over 600 people will be served fish tacos from locally-caught fish donated by Catalina Off-Shore Products.

HBO picked up Veep for a season four, and Silicon Valley for season two. The season three premiere of Veep delivered 955,000 at 10:30p; Sunday’s 10p telecast of Valley drew 1.6 million viewers.
AXS TV weekly live concert series The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands returns for season four in the fall; season three finale aired Tuesday. A 90-minute live special will air Wednesday, April 30 at 1a, featuring the Beatles tribute band that was the first to appear on the series.
A new study from TiVo Research shows large increases in commercial viewership that are not counted in the C3 metric. TiVo estimates that measuring viewing between Live+4 and Live+7 can increase commercial ratings by 5 to 17 percent – for Fox‘s American Idol, the difference between measuring out to 7 days past airtime versus 3 days adds up to $14.39 million dollars for a single season. "When you quantify the additional time-shifted viewership from days 4-7, it is clear that some networks are losing millions of dollars in potential revenue per program over the course of a single season," TiVo senior manager of media insights Alex Petrilli, tells Cynopsis.

Destination America notched its best telecast ever among P2+ (792,000), HH (532,000), M25-54 (245,000) and P18-49 (335,000) with the Friday premiere of Mountain Monsters. "Yahoo! We’re delighted that a record number of fans tuned in last Friday to witness the search for Appalachia’s very own Bigfoot, the Yahoo," Marc Etkind, DA’s GM, tells Cynopsis. Bounce TV‘s One Love reached nearly 1.1 million persons across its series premiere week to become the most-watched original in net history.
The season two premiere of BBC America‘s Orphan Black delivered 620,000 P2+ and 391,000 A18-49 Saturday at 9p, a 97 percent increase over its season one average in the demo.
The debut of WGN America‘s first original scripted series, Salem, delivered 2.3 million total viewers and 886,000 A18-49 on Sunday over four airings, with the 10p telecast drawing 1.5 million viewers and 647,000 A18-49.
The series premiere of FX‘s Fargo rose from 2.65 million to 4.46 million total viewers in Live+Same Day versus Live+3. The multi telecast gross audience for the premiere episode at 10p and two encore airings on Tuesday night was 6.38 million total viewers on Live+3, up from 4.15 million on Live+SameDay.
