A&E ordered nonfiction series D.O.A. (wt) from executive producer Dick Wolf (Law & Order), about a team of detectives who re-examine controversial murder cases. Production begins this spring on eight hour-long episodes from Wolf Reality along with Left/Right Productions.
CBS is not in her future, Chelsea Lately host Chelsea Handler insisted to Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday. Despite reports that she was in talks with the network about a late night slot, Handler, who has announced she is leaving her E! show at the end of the year when her contract is up, explained, "I would never be on a regular network. I would never do that to my fans or to myself. Or to the network."
Fox News signed Chris Wallace to a new, multi-year deal. The anchor of Fox News Sunday, who’s been with the net since 2003, started in the news biz at 16, as a gofer for Walter Cronkite in 1964.
The Weather Channel morning show AMHQ with Sam Champion is heading out of the studio. The crew is making stops at the New Orleans Jazz Festival April 24 and 25, and on May 1 and 2 they land in Moore OK, site of the devastating 2013 tornado, as part of the net’s annual "Tornado Week."
NBCU‘s "Green Is Universal" campaign kicks off its sixth Earth Week with green-themed programming and promotions from April 21-28. "The issue of the environment continues to be one our consumers show strong interest in," said Beth Colleton, NBCU’s SVP of corporate social responsibility. "Our vast portfolio of brands allows us to approach the environmental discussion from a range of perspectives." Such as: "Share and Tell," urging viewers to trade unwanted goods online, in partnership with new sharing site yerdle. Nets including USA, MSNBC, Bravo and E! will offer up items, which fans can win via sweepstakes on the nets’ Facebook pages.
Fox is discontinuing its Saturday night "Animation Domination HD" 11p programming block after June 28, reports Broadcasting & Cable. The young, male-skewing, "alternative" series and shorts programming wasn’t an ideal match for Fox’s older late night demos, a rep told B&C.
Capitalizing on the success of telenovela El Senor de los Cielos, which averaged 2.3 million viewers nightly and generated over 35 million page views, Telemundo is launching a seven-part, mid-season web series to bridge the freshman season cliffhanger with the unprecedented upcoming second season. Two digital chapters a week starting Tuesday, April 22 lead up to the complete full-length "secret episode" available on Friday, May 9 across all Telemundo digital and social platforms, meant to "super serve our audiences on digital platforms," Peter Blacker, EVP, Digital Media & Emerging Businesses, tells Cynopsis. "The storytelling is on par with anything we have created for primetime television because it was created with the same primetime team, working in tandem with our digital and social experts. The end result is a unique digital experience that will drive excitement for the franchise across all platforms."
What drew comedy legend Carol Burnett to Hallmark Channel’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered, premiering Sunday, April 20 at 8p? It’s all about good times, and executive producer Martha Williamson. "I had a wonderful time working with Martha on Touched by an Angel," Burnett, who will appear on the season one finale, tells Cynopsis, "and I’m looking forward to the fun I’ll have on Signed, Sealed, Delivered." Other special guest stars during the season include Angel alums Valerie Bertinelli, Della Reese and Valerie Harper.
Netflix released a trailer for season two of Orange is the New Black, premiering Friday, June 6 ("This is not how I imagined prison would be at all," says a wide-eyed inmate). Season one is available now on the streaming service.
Season two of Paternity Court with Lauren Lake starts production on season two in Atlanta this June. MGM‘s Orion TV Productions first-run strip, which delivered the highest time period growth of any court show during February sweep, was renewed with stations reaching more than 90 percent of U.S. TV households.
LA Laker Kobe Bryant, sidelined for much of last season, is the subject of Kobe Bryant’s Muse on Showtime. The documentary, in production in Los Angeles, is exec produced by Bryant and Gotham Chopra (Decoding Deepak), who will direct, in association with Mamba Media.
Al Jazeera America and Kartemquin Films are collaborating on six-part doc Hard Earned, slated for early 2015. Production has begun on the series, exploring the lives of five American families striving to keep food on the table. "In the last year, we’ve seen low-wage work move to the forefront of the national conversation," said exec producer and Kartemquin co-founder Gordon Quinn. "This shift gives us an opportunity to take the conversation a step further."
ITV Studios America pacted with U.K.-based content production company Komixx Entertainment to develop Komixx’s U.S. television development through ITV.
In back-to-back series premiere eps of Food Network‘s Rewrapped, competitors are tasked with first with making Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers from scratch, then recreating Tastykake Glazed Cherry Pies. Hosted by ‘N Sync’s Joey Fatone, show launches Monday, April 21 at 8p.
Liam Neeson narrates PBS Nature documentary Snow Monkeys, focusing on a family of macaques high in the Japanese Alps. THIRTEEN Productions special airs Wednesday, April 23 (check local listings).
Reelz reality show Ball Boys makes its premiere Wednesday, April 23 at 9p, with back-to-back eps offering an inside look at sports memorabilia biz Robbie’s 1st Base including, of course, the relationships of the sports fanatics who work there. On the show’s debut, football’s Jim Brown stops by the shop to surprise a die-hard fan.
ID mini-series Bad Teachers looks at educators who "drag students down with them into a world of deceit and danger." First up: "Teachers Pet," with a 17-year-old stalked at his prom by you-know-who, on Tuesday, April 22 at 9p.
VH1 and Viacom Media Networks’ hi-def music channel, Palladia, will simultaneously premiere documentary Artifact from Jared Leto (Dallas Buyer’s Club), chronicling the legal dispute between Leto’s band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, and its label as the group prepped their 2009 album, "This Is War." TV debut is Saturday, April 26 at 11p.
ABC announced the date for the 87th Academy Awards presentation: Sunday, February 22. Nominations voting begins Monday, December 29; nominees are announced Thursday, January 15.
Enrique Iglesias, Wisin, Sean Paul, Cristian Castro and Michel Telo join the list of performers at the 2014 Billboard Latin Music Awards presented by State Farm. The show will be broadcast live by Telemundo, Thursday, April 24 at 7p.
ABC is calling for another installment of The Great Christmas Light Fight for holiday season 2014. The reality competition series from FremantleMedia North America debuted in 2013, delivering the net its highest number of total viewers in the time period in five years. A new season of Oprah’s Master Class debuts on OWN Sunday, May 11 at 10p, with Justin Timberlake sitting down for a candid conversation. How are things looking this season? "I actually think it’s the best one yet," said Winfrey.

Measurement milestone? Nielsen announced the launch of the final technical trial of the expansion of Nielsen Online Campaign Ratings to mobile, with video ad platforms BrightRoll and TubeMogul participating. "2014 is a big year for Nielsen and the broader advertising industry," said Megan Clarken, EVP, Global Product Leadership. "With true cross-platform measurement across content and advertising, publishers will be one step closer to unlocking the true value of their inventory and advertisers will know the real extent of their campaign reach." The 2014-2015 TV season will mark the first time that mobile video viewing is folded into C3, the rating used by the industry to buy and sell TV advertising.
Mindshare North America and The Weather Company announced a non-exclusive partnership, with the media agency using TWC’s WeatherFX data platform to assist with media decisions using real-time weather insights and triggers. "There is a clear correlation between weather and purchase decisions in many categories," said Bob Ivins, Chief Data Officer, Mindshare. "Linking TWC’s current and predictive data with algorithmic research findings related to weather-related behavior allows us to shift relevant media to the right person in the moment it will resonate most."
U.K.’s Channel 4 ordered Saturday morning lifestyle program Weekend Kitchen in partnership with British luxury supermarket Waitrose. World-famous chefs will cook using ingredients from the grocer, with the show supported by in-store promotion and direct marketing to the retailer’s customers.

ABC’s Good Morning America was the top morning show in both total viewers and among A25-54 for seventh consecutive week for the week of April 7, according to Nielsen. GMA has ranked number one in total viewers for 89 of the last 93 weeks, finishing second only during Olympics weeks. In Today’s corner: NBC claims first place among A18-49 for the 42nd consecutive week, and is on top for the season among M25-54.
With time shifted viewing, History‘s Vikings continues as the top cable series on Thursday nights, boasts the net, averaging 2.8 million A25-54 and 2.6 million A18-49 in Live +7 over five weeks. Additionally, the series is averaging 5.2 million total viewers (Live +7).
CBS notes it’s finishing off the season with eight of the top ten comedies in viewers and six of the top ten in A18-49. The net’s How I Met Your Mother led both lists (20.1 million, 6.3/20), with ABC‘s Modern Family coming in second (11.8 million, 4.5/13).
The season four premiere of MTV‘s Awkward delivered 1.6 million total viewers and a 1.8 rating among P12-34, 33 percent and 50 percent increases, respectively, over season 3B average.
