Fox Corporation has formed the Tubi Media Group, housing FOX’s standalone digital businesses including Tubi, Credible and Blockchain Creative Labs, as well as the digital platforms and teams that underpin FOX’s wider digital business in Sports, News and Entertainment. Paul Cheesbrough, previously CTO and President of Digital for Fox Corp., will head the division as CEO; Tubi founder and CEO Farhad Massoudi will step down in June. “Our strategic acquisition of Tubi in 2020 established a cornerstone in our digital streaming strategy, which under Paul and Farhad’s leadership has driven record growth and is now the clear market leader in AVOD in the US,” said Lachlan Murdoch, Executive Chair and Chief Executive Officer, Fox Corporation. “Building off this momentum, and complementing the strong growth being driven in our company wide digital revenues, now is the right time to bring these efforts together into a new business unit which will be tasked with spearheading our digital expansion and partnering with our brands to drive continued growth.”
Paramount Global and Salesforce announced the launch of Paramount’s new diversity reporting platform, aiming at giving the company a more holistic view of the makeup of its production workforce. “To produce the best content for a diverse global audience, it’s imperative that the teams both in front of and behind the camera and those who are creating content, reflect our audiences,” said Bob Bakish, President and CEO, Paramount Global. “We often say, ‘what gets measured gets done,’ and this data will help us create a baseline for diversity targets, continue to improve representation, make informed long-term diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments in a measurable way, and hold ourselves accountable.”
Nominations for the 50th annual Daytime Emmys are out, and ABC’s “General Hospital” leads the field with 19 nods. CBS sister soaps “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” were second and third, with 14 and 13 nominations, respectively, followed by NBC/Peacock’s “Days of Our Lives” and syndicated “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” both with 11. The awards ceremony airs Friday, June 16 at 9p on CBS.
Thirty-eight out of the 1,462 shows that aired during primetime television and streaming in 2022 had a Latino actor in the lead role, according to the Latino Donor Collaborative’s 2022 Latinos in Media Report. That, despite that fact that according to Nielsen, 42% of the most binge-able streaming programs of 2021 were directly influenced by Latino talent, with more than half of these shows’ audiences coming from outside the Latino demographic. “The U.S. Latino representation data for the last quarter of 2022 is truly shocking. The numbers actually went backward from the first three quarters and to 2019 levels,” said Ana Valdez, President and CEO of the LDC. “The bottom line is that U.S. Latinos continue to be invisible in the general market of TV and film.”
Prime Video has acquired new DC animated projects including the family action comedy film “Merry Little Batman” along with spinoff series “Bat-Family,” and a two-season order for “Batman: Caped Crusader.” “’Batman: The Animated Series’ helped pioneer in the evolution of superhero storytelling and defined the Dark Knight for a generation,” said Vernon Sanders, Head of Television, Amazon and MGM Studios. “’Batman: Caped Crusader’ will no doubt continue that tradition and, alongside ‘Merry Little Batman’ and ‘Bat-Family,’ we’re thrilled to collaborate with Warner Bros. Animation to offer a variety of takes of the Batman mythos to our global Prime Video customers.”

Prime Video is staying in business with “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, with a two-season order for “Etoile.” The drama, following the dancers and staff of two ballet companies, stars Luke Kirby and Gideon Glick, both from “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”; Camille Cottin (“Call My Agent!”); Simon Callow (“Outlander”); Lou de Laage (“The Innocents); and David Alvarez (“West Side Story”).

Layoff week at Disney continued with the shuttering of digital content division 20th Digital Studio. Division head, EVP David Worthen Brooks, is transitioning into a first-look deal at Hulu as an independent producer.
Filmmaker David Ayer (“Fury”) will write and executive produce racing series “Lollipop,” alongside Chris Long and their Cedar Park Studios. The show will enable audiences to actively participate as they compete in a virtual racing circuit linked to the plot.
Netflix greenlit “Black Doves,” a thriller written by Joe Barton and produced by Barton’s Noisy Bear and Sister (“Chernobyl”). Keira Knightley stars as woman with a secret identity whose lover falls victim to London’s underworld.
Amazon Studios and Wondery have signed an overall deal with New York Times best-selling author Shea Serrano that includes an overall exclusive television pact with Amazon Studios and a first-look podcast deal via Wondery, an Amazon company. Serrano is already serving as the creator and executive producer, alongside Mike Schur, for the upcoming comedy series “Primo” on Amazon Freevee, set to premiere on Friday, May 19.
The CW has picked up “Sullivan’s Crossing,” based on the bestseller by Robyn Carr, from the “Virgin River” team of Roma Roth and Christopher E. Perry. The first season of the drama, airing on CTV in Canada, is slated for fall.
Japan’s Toho Co. has launched TOHO Tombo Pictures, a subsidiary providing domestic production services for foreign productions. TOHO Tombo Pictures is a joint venture with Japan-based producer Georgina Pope. “In recent years we have seen an increase in foreign productions developing stories to shoot in Japan, and feel our industry needs to fully prepare and be ready to offer top notch production services,” said Hiro Matsuoka, Representative Director and President of Toho. “By establishing a firm dedicated to the needs of international producers and directors we will assemble a workforce ready to support overseas creators while contributing to the Japanese film industry and in turn the tourism industry.”
Taye Diggs (“All American”) will star in BET+ crime series “Love & Murder: Atlanta Playboy,” based on Ron Stodghill’s book Redbone: Money, Malice and Murder in Atlanta. The series comes from Mona Scott-Young of Monami Productions and Eric Tomosunas of Swirl Films. “The film series is a captivating true life crime story that captures the unique culture of Atlanta,” said Scott-Young. “BET has always provided a platform for stories that are authentic and relatable and we are proud to be partnered with them on this project.”

Season two of HBO Max’s “And Just Like That” will debut in June. Returning series regulars on the “Sex and the City” sequel include Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Sara Ramírez, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Christopher Jackson, Niall Cunningham, Cathy Ang, and Alexa Swinton. Netflix will have spent close to $6 billion on UK content over four years by the end of 2023, shared the streamer at a London Showcase. That’s nearly 50% more than originally anticipated, revealed Anne Mensah, Netflix’s VP, Content for the UK.

Prime Video Sports has renewed docuseries “Coach Prime” for a second season. The upcoming season, which is currently in production, will follow Coach Prime throughout his inaugural season at the University of Colorado with the Colorado Buffaloes and, like Season 1, takes viewers inside the locker room and on the field during games and practices throughout the 2023 season. “The customer reception of Season 1 of ‘Coach Prime’ far exceeded expectations. Our customers loved getting an inside look as Deion Sanders established a culture of teamwork, belief, and winning at JSU,” said Matt Newman, Head of Prime Video Original Sports Content. “Deion has brought that same leadership to Colorado and has had an instant impact on recruiting and expectations.”
GolfPass, NBC Sports Next’s digital membership and video streaming platform co-founded by Rory McIlroy, is offering a new ad-supported membership tier with free access to thousands of hours of golf instruction series, original entertainment, GOLF Channel classics, and golf tournament replays. People who have previously set up an account with other NBC Sports golf brands will have automatic access.
FAST service Xumo Play has launched the NFL Channel, just in time for live, three-day coverage of the 2023 NFL Draft beginning today, April 27. On the final day of the draft, April 29, the NFL Channel will be the only place fans can watch live coverage of every pick from the final four rounds.
CNBC and Boardroom, Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman’s media brand covering the business of sports, music and entertainment, are teaming up to produce Game Plan, an event taking place on July 25 in LA. Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment sales platform Crackle Connex has turned to Geopath for OOH data on audience targeting, audience measurement, and return on ad spend for more than 2,700 video screens on top of Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment’s Redbox kiosks. “Geopath has built the most comprehensive platform for out-of-home audience measurement, which will be a massive asset for our brand partners’ campaigns on our Redbox kiosk video screens,” said Philippe Guelton, chief revenue officer of Crackle Connex. “With a greater understanding of the target audience, we can help ensure the success of these campaigns.”
Gen Z find that the traditional shopping journey is almost twice as complicated as social shopping, according to new research form IPG Mediabrands’ MAGNA/Media Trials, Reprise Commerce and Snapchat. “What Does the Future of Social Commerce Entail?” found that social-commerce tech, like AR lenses, discovery tabs and virtual shopping groups, can enhance the consumer experience. “What advertisers need to know is that online shopping is already deeply rooted in social media. Most social media users are already using it as a way to discovery new products and close to half have made purchases directly on social media platforms,” said Kara Manatt, EVP, Intelligence Solutions, MAGNA. “Advertisers should take advantage of social media tools to reach consumers where they are and consider leveraging social commerce technology like discovery tabs and virtual shopping groups.”

Crime heist “Vanda,” an international co-production from Legendary, SPi and La Panda, has landed at Hulu. The series is based on the true story of a hair stylist in Lisbon who resorted to robbing banks during the 2008 financial crisis.
FilmRise has acquired all North American distribution rights to the film “Scheme Queens,” about four girlfriends who find themselves down on their luck and devise a plan to change their futures.
Attraction inked a deal with Banijay for the international distribution of “Love is a Highway” (Coeur de trucker), a dating reality format that follows single truckers on a road trip to find love. The show, commissioned by Canada’s TV5-UNIS TV, combines romance, travel and adventure.

The numbers keep going up for HBO’s “Succession” as it approaches its series finale. Season four episodes are averaging 7.9 million viewers across platforms, up from 7.2 million for season three. Sunday’s viewing of episode five matched the series high 2.6 million of the week prior.
Monday’s edition of “Fox News Tonight,” its first after the exit of Tucker Carlson, delivered 2.6 million viewers, less than Carlson’s average of 3.3 million but enough to land the top spot in cable news ratings.
Spectrum News reports daily viewership in April averaged 2.1 million daily viewing Spectrum households across its linear and digital platforms. In New York City, Spectrum News NY1 was the most-watched news network among Spectrum audiences during its special coverage of former President Donald Trump’s arraignment and not guilty plea on April 4 from 1p to 4:12p. When tornados impacted Kentucky on April 5, Spectrum News 1’s weather coverage from 3:30p to 7:30p recorded an increase in viewership of 119%.
