PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
 
Adam McKay (Vice) is collaborating with HBO on a drama series about the LA Lakers that’s received a pilot order. The project, Showtime, is written by Max Borenstein (Godzilla), and based on Jeff Pearlman’s nonfiction book, Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s. McKay will direct the pilot that chronicles the professional and personal lives of the team that defined its era.
 
E! announced Flip It like Disick, a series following Scott Disick and his team as they tackle high-end home flipping and remodeling for his celebrity friends and family. That team consists of former pop singer-turned-interior designer Willa Ford, Disick’s best friend and business partner Benny Luciano, contractor Miki Moor, and Disick’s assistant Lindsay Diamond. Among their projects, they’ll renovate Disick’s kids’ playhouse at their mother Kourtney Kardashian’s home. Series debuts later this summer.
 
WE tv greenlit eight, one-hour episodes of spin-off Love After Lockup: Life After Lockup. The new show builds on the stories from seasons one and two of the docuseries chronicling couples making the transition to love on the outside. Series is set to premiere in June 2019.
 
Netflix renewed Nailed It! for a third season and set a May 17 global launch date. Hosted by Nicole Byer and Jacquez Torres, the series features home bakers with terrible track records who take a shot at re-creating edible masterpieces for a $10,000 prize. Nailed It! is produced by the Magical Elves, with Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz, Casey Kriley, Patrick J. Doody, Daniel Calin and Gayle Gawlowski serving as executive producers. Jo Sharon serves as co-executive producer.
 
In other Netflix news, adult animated show Inside Job has been ordered from Gravity Falls and Disenchantment writer Shion Takeuchi, marking the first series she’ll produce under her overall deal with the streamer. The 20-episode series, which will be produced by Netflix Animation, is described as a workplace comedy set in a shadow government where every conspiracy theory is true.
 
Cineflix Media Inc. inked an exclusive first-look, multi-year deal with Alexis Robie, Executive Producer of long-running A&E series The First 48. The agreement gives Cineflix the first option to produce original unscripted content developed by Robie under his production shingle, Coronet Productions, with a focus on true crime, justice and access-driven programming for North American networks.

Homicide detective Rod Demery reopens his case files for a third season, when Murder Chose Me returns to ID on Thursday, May 2 at 9p.
 
Designer and social media personality Orlando Soria heals broken hearts via home renovations in HGTV series Unspouse My House. New series premieres Thursday, June 6 at 9:30p.
 
Season 2 of Pose bows Tuesday, June 11 at 10p on FX. Series explores the juxtaposition the underground ball culture, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe and the downtown social and literary scene that came to define NY in the 1980s.
 
The Detour makes its Season 4 premiere on Tuesday, June 18 at 10:30p on TBS. Series, co-created by Jason Jones and Samantha Bee, is described as “an all-to-honest look at the family dynamic.”
 
United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell returns for its fourth season on Sunday, April 28 at 10p on CNN. Series follows the sociopolitical comedian as he explores communities across the country.
 
AMC Networks released summer 2019 premiere dates for several series. New musical variety sketch comedy Sherman’s Showcase bows Wednesday, July 31 at 10p on IFCThe Terror: Infamy’s sophomore run begins Monday, August 12 at 9p on AMC, followed by the Season 2 debut of Lodge 49 at 10p; The Name of the Rose bows Thursday, May 23 at 10p on SundanceTV; and Rosehaven makes its third season premiere on Thursday, June 20 at 12a on SundanceTV.

Coach turned to their global ambassador, Selena Gomez, to help launch Dream It Real. The podcast series, hosted by BuzzFeed writer and editor Heben Nigatu, debuts Wednesday, April 24, available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and other channels.
 
FOX Sports’ Inside the (Rob) Parker debuts Wednesday, April 24 on The Herd Podcast Network. The show features an interview with eight-time All-Star and four-time World Series champion Darryl Strawberry.

WOW! Unlimited Media, led by Michael Hirsh and Fred Seibert, partnered with music producer Bob Ezrin to develop a slate of music-infused kids’ content. The first two projects are a show inspired by guitarist Les Paul and Ukulele U, a series starring Melanie Doane as a musical ringmaster leading a group of ukulele-playing kid performers.

CNN became the latest premium news brand to join the Pluto TV platform. The channel will feature a curated playlist of short-form digital content from CNN’s anchors and storytellers.
 
Jada Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow, and mother Adrienne Banfield Norris return for 20 new episodes of Red Table Talk on Monday, May 6 on Facebook Watch. Series features candid conversations with the three generations of women.
 
Netflix romantic comedy Always Be My Maybe, starring Ali Wong and Randall Park, set Friday, May 31 as its release date.
 
 
TECH TALK
 
Spotify and Oracle are teaming to help automotive marketers target potential car buyers more efficiently. Spotify will integrate with Oracle Data Cloud to allow marketers to build custom audiences for car buyers for every stage of the buying cycle and across every car segment. Spotify is leaning into its natural relationship with cars, since users stream music while commuting and create road-trip playlists. The company says analysis from Oracle Data Cloud, including data from Polk Measurement at HIS Markit, found that Spotify users bought cars at a rat 26% higher than the national average in 2018.
 
Samsung announced a delay in its April 26 rollout of its Galaxy Fold phones in the U.S., after several techies with pre-release review copies of the device reported that they were breaking. The Fold, which can slip into a pocket like an average smartphone with a 4.6-inch touchscreen, also opens like a book to create a tablet-like 7.3-inch experience. AP’s Rachel Lerman said, “The delay is a setback for Samsung and for the smartphone market generally, which had been pinning some hopes on the folding phone to catalyze innovation in the industry.”

Liberty Global secured a multi-year deal with Amazon to make what it describes as the best content and viewing experience available to 4 million Virgin Media TV customers in the UK. Virgin Media will be the first of Liberty Global’s European operations to integrate the Amazon Prime Video app within its Ultra HD V5 set-top box.
 
Viacom launched Paramount+ streaming service in Latin America. The new video-on-demand subscription service includes the new season of The Handmaid’s Tale, Yellowstone and a curated selection of Hollywood films, international series, plus MTV, Comedy Central, Paramount Channel and Nickelodeon shows. Paramount+ will be available in Brazil for NET subscribers during its initial phase and, shortly thereafter, on Claro video for the rest of Latin America.
 
NBCUniversal International Formats inked a deal to bring to bring comedy game show Who Is the Real Celebrity and entertainment format Singer Auction to Viet Nam network VTV.
 
Nickelodeon Latin America licensed Genius Brands’ Rainbow Rangers to launch on its Nick Jr. channel and NOGGIN preschool mobile app. The show will be dubbed in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

The premiere of Telemundo’s La Reina del Sur on Monday ranked as the #1 broadcast television show in America at 10p among A18-49, averaging 1.26 million viewers, according to Nielsen.  The debut delivered 2.36 million Total Viewers and reached a cumulative audience of 1.59M adults 18-49 and nearly 3 million total viewers.  The finale of  the net’s La Voz drew an average of 584,000 among A18-49 and over 1.4 million Total Viewers,
 
Hallmark Channel’s annual Spring Fever programming franchise concluded last weekend. Over its six-week run, it elevated the network to be the highest-rated and second most-watched cable net on weekends, excluding news. The premieres averaged a 2.3 Household rating, 2.3 million Total Viewers and 342,000 W25-54, as well as reached over 9.6 million unduplicated Total Viewers.
 
Jeopardy (6.4 Live+SD national Nielsen rating, up 5% from the week before) got a boost from professional gambler James Holzhauer, who set a new individual day winnings record, passing ahead of Wheel of Fortune (6.0, unchanged) and Family Feud (5.9, down 3%). On the magazine rack, Access (1.3) had the biggest annual increase in the top tier, improving 8%. Also holding its ground year-to-year was the recently renewed Daily Mail (1.0), which tied with Extra.
 
As viewers tuned into the news surrounding Tax Day and the nation anticipated market reaction to the release of the redacted Mueller report, FBN’s Business Day drew 161,000 Total Viewers.
