Multiplatform entertainment company Wattpad inked a new partnership with Sony Pictures Television to develop and co-produce new programming for TV. The companies will work together to identify and develop stories from half a billion story uploads that have been shared on Wattpad. 
Netflix ordered six episodes of a comedy starring and exec produced by Mike Myers, who will play multiple characters. “I love creating characters and Netflix has given me a fantastic playground to play in,” said the former SNL star.
Aso coming to Netflix: The Boys in the Band. “Last summer, The Boys in the Band were on Broadway, breaking house records at The Booth,” posted Ryan Murphy (Glee) on Instagram. “THIS summer, The Boys In the Band will be filming a Netflix movie event.” Murphy will produce the film, along with David Stone and Net Martel. Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory), Zachary Quinto (Heroes), Andrew Rannells (Book of Mormon), Matt Bomer (White Collar) and the entire Broadway cast are onboard, along with director Joe Mantello.

The CW set its summer slate, which includes six new series and five returning shows (dates included where announced). Newcomers include British action drama Bulletproof; talent show The Big Stage (June 7 at 9p); comedy game show Hypnotize Me; docu-series Mysteries Decoded; space adventure Pandora; and extreme sports docu-series Red Bull Peaking. Coming back for more are second seasons of Burden of Truth (June 2 at 8p) and The Outpost (July 11 at 9p); season 6 of Penn & Teller: Fool Us (June 17 at 8p); season 7 of Whose Line Is It Anyway? (July 17 at 9p); and season 8 of Masters of Illusion (June 7 at 8p).
El Rey has two new weekly talk shows on the way. The Chuey Martinez Show, starring LA personality/pop culture junkie Martinez, launches Thursday, May 2 at 10p, followed at 10:30p by El Rey Nation Show, described as “a 30-minute geek-fandom panel show.” From its launch, El Rey Network has created opportunities for Latinos in front and behind the camera,” said Daniel Tibbets, General Manager and President of El Rey Network. “We are continuing that mission by introducing our fans to the extraordinary talent featured on both of these new shows.”

BEN Group announced its influencer marketing and brand integration business, BEN, saw revenue increase +83% over 1Q18 and +99% over 1Q17. In 1Q19, BEN delivered 2,500 integrations and is on track to deliver 10,000 for the year.
WE tv renewed an exclusive distribution agreement with Off the Fence, a partnership that’s lasted over a decade. The agreement will see Off the Fence distributing more than 1,200 hours of all media content internationally and on the domestic side, 2,000+ hours of second window linear television.
BitMovio announced the launch of a new office in LA as well as a new partnership with Endemol Shine International, which will bring over 600 hours of its content to the next-generation gamified video entertainment marketplace. In March, BitMovio launched its open beta for web browsers and Android-based devices; now audiences can now access the open beta in the Apple iOS devices as well.
Apple and Qualcomm ended a legal battle that started in 2017, when Apple accused Qualcomm of overcharging for patent licensing.The settlement includes a payment from Apple to Qualcomm and a chipset supply agreement, suggesting Apple will buy Qualcomm chips for future iPhones. “Ultimately Apple realized this was more about two kids fighting in the sandbox and they have bigger issues ahead with 5G and iPhone softness rather than battling Qualcomm in court,” said Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives.
The same day of the settlement news, Intel announced it is canceling a line of smartphone 5G chips planned for 2020 launches. Intel became Apple’s only provider of 4G wireless chips during its fight with Qualcomm. “In the smartphone modem business it has become apparent that there is no clear path to profitability and positive returns,” said Intel CEO Bob Swan.
Google VR painting app Tilt Brush is headed to the upcoming Oculus Quest standalone headset as a launch title. Google says Oculus Quest will “unlock completely new opportunities” for artists.
