NBC gave a 4-episode order for Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update, featuring SNL Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che, with drop-ins from their late night co-stars. “SNL is having its best season in a quarter of a century – how many shows can say that?! – so we didn’t want them to take the summer off,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment. Show premieres August 10 at 9p.
Alec Baldwin is being honored by friends and co-stars in Spike TV’s One Night Only: Alec Baldwin. Described as part This is Your Life, part Dean Martin Roast, the special will be taped at the Apollo Theater NYC on Sunday, June 25, premiering on Spike Sunday, July 9 at 9p.
The winners in the New Artist Presented by T-Mobile categories in the 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards were announced. Brothers Osborne, Maren Morris and Jon Pardi were named New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year, New Female Vocalist of the Year, and New Male Vocalist of the Year, respectively. Each of the winners will perform at the ceremony airing live from Vegas on Sunday, April 2 at 8p on CBS.

GSN issued second season orders to Winsanity and Divided. The network also greenlit Emoji-focused game show Emogenius as part of its 2017 upfront slate, and has four projects in development. Among them, Blast Your Past executive produced by Andy Cohen, in which celebrities poke fun at their lives before they were famous.
Dodd Darin, son of Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee, has reorganized the management team running the business and creative affairs of his late parents’ estate in hopes it leads to the development of an episodic series about their lives. The move comes on the 60th anniversary of the launch of his father’s music career and follows the regional success of the stage show Dream Lover, The Bobby Darin Musical in Sydney, Australia. The management team is developing a slate of projects, including a biographical episodic series following the ups and downs of Darin and Dee’s short marriage and a feature documentary.
Gary Fleder and his Mojo Films signed a two-year first-look agreement with Freeform. The deal comes on the heels of Fleder directing two pilots for the net, Guilt and The Bold Type, which went to series. Fleder also signed a second-look deal with ITV Studios, where he and his Mojo producing partner, Mary Beth Basile, are developing a TV series adaptation of the novel In the Blood.
Disney XD ordered an early second season of Big Hero 6 The Series, ahead of the show’s first season premiere this fall. Series is based on the Walt Disney Animation Studios‘ feature film inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name.
Nat Geo premieres Genius on Tuesday, April 25 at 9p. The net’s first scripted series explores Albert Einstein’s professional achievements as well as his complex personal relationships. Geoffrey Rush stars as the celebrated scientist.
Car designer Ryan Friedlinghaus and his team at West Coast Customs return to Velocity with Inside West Coast Customs on Tuesday, March 21 at 9p. New episodes showcase the work performed for corporate and celebrity clients, including Sriracha and Kmart, as well as superstars Oscar de la Hoya, Justin Bieber and Kid Rock.
OWN announced its new Saturday night programming lineup, beginning Saturday, April 15, includes the return of Iyanla: Fix My Life at 9p, followed by new original docu-series, The Book of John Gray, featuring associate pastor at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church, John Gray and his wife Aventer.
The captains of the Bering Sea are back. Deadliest Catch debuts its 13th season on Tuesday, April 11 at 9p on Discovery Channel.
Mary Kills People debuts Sunday, April 23 at 10p on Lifetime. Series stars Caroline Dhavernas (Hannibal) as a doctor who helps people in need end their lives with dignity.
New seasons of HBO comedies Ballers and Insecure premiere Sunday, July 23. Ballers airs at 10p, followed by Insecure at 10:30p.
Logo slotted Thursday, April 27 for the premiere of reality show Fire Island, following a group of young professionals living together in a beachfront share house.
Fusion debuts Fatherless on Sunday, April 2 at 9p. The one-hour documentary follows actor/comedian Baron Vaughn (Grace & Frankie) as he searches for the father he never knew.
Ooyala released its 4Q16 Global Video Index, showing mobile devices attract the most video views for advertising video-on-demand services with global distribution. The report examines several large AVOD customers across sports, news, and entertainment distributing ad-supported video in every geographical region. Globally, mobile devices, an accumulation of smartphones and tablets, represent 56% of all AVOD video views. Smartphones make up the bulk of AVOD consumption at 45%, slightly usurping desktops at 44%, with tablets taking the remaining 11%.
Every year, fans take to Twitter to complain about having to watch NCAA tournament games on truTV. This time around, the net’s social media team is ready, warning in a video that if they want to troll truTV during college basketball, haters had better bring on the funny. Yesterday, through hashtag #FunnyCauseItstru, truTV started asking complainers to up their game. Via pre-produced videos featuring truTV talent, custom social cards and gifs, plus real-time responses, truTV will engage with fans who voice their discontent. (As for the aforementioned video – you’re going to want to watch it until the end.)
Vice Media inked a deal to produce exclusive short-form content for Snapchat. First up: 8-part dating series Hungry Hearts with Action Bronson, hosted by the rapper/chef, arriving later this year in English-speaking countries.
Person of Interest alum Jim Caviezel was tapped to lead the cast of CBS’ untitled Navy SEAL drama pilot, which follows the lives of the elite group as they train, plan and execute dangerous, high-stakes missions.
Robbie Jones and Vince Nappo nabbed series regular roles in FOX’s untitled university thriller pilot, formerly known as Controversy. Jones will play the assistant coach and offensive coordinator of the University’s football team; Nappo will portray a detective.
Christopher Gorham (Covert Affairs) booked a series regular role opposite Dallas Roberts and Debby Ryan in CW drama pilot Insatiable.
Irish newcomer Jacob McCarthy landed his first series-regular role, in NBC’s untitled comedy pilot from Seth Meyers, Saturday Night Live’s Mike O’Brien and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video.
J. August Richards (Notorious) was hired as a series regular opposite Jason Ritter in ABC’s The Gospel of Kevin, an hour-long drama pilot.
Newcomer Hillary Anne Matthews nabbed a series regular role opposite Zach Braff in ABC’s untitled comedy pilot (formerly known as Start Up).
Scrubs alum Donald Faison and Ken Kirby booked series regular roles in NBC comedy pilot Spaced Out. The workplace comedy centers on a working-class genius and his struggles to fit in with an established team.
Christina Ochoa (Animal Kingdom) was tapped as the female lead opposite Matt Barr in CW’s Valor. The serialized military drama/conspiracy thriller pilot tests the boundaries between military discipline and human desire.
Jane Leeves is set to guest star on CBS comedy The Great Indoors, reports TVLine. She’ll play Sheryl, the seventh wife of Roland (Stephen Fry).
MTV recommissioned documentary series, Teen Mom UK. The show’s 8-episode second season premieres this summer.
GRB Entertainment acquired three factual series: Exposed with Deborah Norville, Super Fan Builds and Arabia Motors.
Rive Gauche Television sold titles to broadcasters in multiple territories worldwide prior to MIPTV. Among them, Starz US picked up Kid Diners and The Dog Whisperer was acquired by Cineplex and Mediaplex in Thailand, Nat Geo in various European territories, as well as Macias Group in Mexico.

Dr. Phil (3.9 national live plus same day national sweep average, up 11% from February 2016) was the highest-rated talk show in syndication during the nationwide February survey period, topping the talkers by its widest margin ever, according to Nielsen. Phil won the talk show race by 63% over its nearest competitor.
Crime Watch Daily grew 25% from its debut in September 2015. Newcomer Harry (1.1) hosted by Harry Connick, Jr. hit the rating charts for the first time in a February survey, outperforming the best sweep numbers of last February’s rookie crop by 10%.
In access, Entertainment Tonight (3.4) was the magazine champion for the 105th consecutive sweep. In addition, several entertainment mags scored big rating increases with next day coverage of the 89th Academy Awards on February 27. ET (4.0 Oscar recap rating on Feb. 27) spiked 24% and Access Hollywood (1.8) added 29%, while Extra (1.5) rose to 25% and The Insider (1.3) went up to 18%.
In off-net syndication, Big Bang Theory (5.6) led easily. New entry Last Man Standing (2.0), in its first February sweep, landed in a tie for fourth among sitcoms with animated strip Family Guy (2.0).
For the week of February 27, FOX comedy The Mick and new drama APB grew from their prior telecasts in Live + 7 ratings, while the season finale of new unscripted series My Kitchen Rules saw an up +13% lift versus the prior week. The Mick (1.7/6 L7) was up +6% from last week (1.6/6 L7) and posted an +89% lift versus Live+SD. APB’s 1.4/5 Live+7 was an up +8% gain from the prior week (1.3/4 Live+7) and an up +75% gain from same day. The season finale of My Kitchen Rules (0.9/3 Live+7) was up +13% versus the prior week (0.8/3 Live+7).
