The second week of the Winter Olympics put a damper on much of syndication’s ratings; once again, some shows chose not to have their numbers counted. Jerry Springer was the sole talk show to see an uptick (1.4, up 8 percent); chart topper Judge Judy scored a 7.8 rating, up 3 percent.
The Olympics might have tamped down ratings, but in metered markets Monday, the Oscars gave entertainment shows a big lift. Entertainment Tonight was up 40 percent versus last year (4.9/8), Access Hollywood jumped up 38 percent (2.9/5) and Extra saw a 42 percent (2.7/5) lift.
Live with Kelly and Michael‘s post-Oscars show on Monday earned 4.9/14 in Households and 2.5/14 in W25-54 in metered markets, the show’s highest-rated telecast on any day since the final broadcast of Live with Regis and Kelly in November 2011.
Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres felt the love, too. Monday’s live post-Oscar The Ellen DeGeneres Show was the highest-rated episode in the series’ 11-year history, averaging a 4.8 Household rating/11 share in the overnight markets. The series’ previous high was 3.8, in January 2004.
In its second week, NBC‘s The Voice held most of its premiere numbers, 4.5 A18-49 and 15.7 million total viewers, versus 4.7 and 15.9 million the week prior.
TNT‘s Perception started its winter run on Tuesday with 3.3 million viewers in Live+3, 1.3 million A25-54 and 1.0 million A18-49. The night’s winter premiere of Rizzoli & Isles grew to more than 5.4 million viewers in Live+3, grabbing 1.9 million A25-54 and 1.5 million A18-49 in Live+3.
MSNBC‘s two new shows got off to slow starts. Ronan Farrow Daily averaged 243,000 total viewers its first week, down 40 percent from Andrea Mitchell Reports in the timeslot in 2013, and 55,000 in A25-54, down 42 percent. The Reid Report drew an average 286,000 total viewers, down 8 percent from News Nation with Tamron Hall, and 63,200 in the news demo, down 38 percent.
