AT THE UPFRONTS

Coffee, breakfast pizza and the sound of Pharrell Williams’ "Happy" got the crowd warmed up for The Weather Company‘s "AllFront" (content and native ads on all screens) presentation at NYC’s Times Center on Tuesday. Chris Raleigh, SVP, cable and cross-platform ad sales said that since the net’s "It’s Amazing Out There" relaunch in November, "Total day is up 30 percent and primetime originals are up 64 percent year over year." Not to be outdone, SVP of digital ad sales Jeremy Steinberg noted that video streams across Weather’s mobile platforms are up 322 percent and mobile has achieved 130 million app downloads.

Sam Champion was jazzed about his new morning show, AMHQ, debuting Monday, March 17 at 7a. It’s designed to "get the family up and running and give them what they need, and that starts with the weather," said the anchor and managing editor.

Also on the horizon at TWC: David Clark, president of the net announced four new series, Tornado Alley (Monday, April 28 at 9p), Catching Hell (Sunday, June 1 at 9p), Now What? (Q3) and Wicked Weather (Q4). Editor-on-chief and VP of content Neil Katz described new upcoming "Video Minutes," including journey-to-the-future show Warp, health-focused Human Nature, bizarre animal stories Crazimals and inspiring Melt. Also on deck: Will to Live, a cross-platform, co-produced series with two out of five hours coming from TWC’s digital video team.

IN THE NEWS

Disney and Dish Network signed a carriage deal that calls for Dish to disable its Auto-Hop for ABC shows three days after broadcast; Dish gained over-the-top rights, allowing it to stream linear and VOD content from ABC stations, ABC Family, ESPN, ESPN2 and Disney Channel over the Internet. The deal, said Dish CEO Joseph Clayton, is "about predicting the future of television." The two sides had been operating under a temporary agreement since October.

CBS has started taking orders for new commercials to be placed in shows viewed more than three days after broadcast. "Our advertisers recognize the value of delayed viewing both in terms of sheer volume and the quality of the audience it delivers," said Jo Ann Ross, president, CBS network sales. "Having the ability to switch creative copy in a significant portion of this footprint makes VOD an even more attractive option for clients moving forward." Dynamic ads will be delivered through ad tech company Canoe.

Comcast is extending its program offering those who qualify inexpensive broadband service and a computer for under $150, and will provide $1 million to create Internet Learning Zones. The company’s Essentials program, started in 2011 with a three-year commitment, serves about 300,000 low-income families.

Producer/songwriter Timbaland will write and produce music for Lee DanielsFox hip hop drama Empire. Pilot stars Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow) and Taraji P. Henson (Person of Interest).

Great American Country is running a watch-and-win contest in March during rehabbed treasure series Flea Market Flip, Sundays at 9p. Viewers will see a code word on air, and have 24 hours to enter the word online for a chance to win $5000.

Rev Media announced a corporate name change to Shandy Media, after the lager/lemonade combo. Publisher’s stated mission: "Mix things up."

Don’t Miss Out… The call for entries in the third annual Cynopsis Kids !magination + People Awards is now open. The Awards honor the best children’s and family multiplatform programming and marketing, plus the outstanding execs in kids entertainment. This year, we will also be honoring an elite group of Animation Innovators. RATINGS

The second week of the Winter Olympics put a damper on much of syndication’s ratings; once again, some shows chose not to have their numbers counted. Jerry Springer was the sole talk show to see an uptick (1.4, up 8 percent); chart topper Judge Judy scored a 7.8 rating, up 3 percent.

The Olympics might have tamped down ratings, but in metered markets Monday, the Oscars gave entertainment shows a big lift. Entertainment Tonight was up 40 percent versus last year (4.9/8), Access Hollywood jumped up 38 percent (2.9/5) and Extra saw a 42 percent (2.7/5) lift.

Live with Kelly and Michael‘s post-Oscars show on Monday earned 4.9/14 in Households and 2.5/14 in W25-54 in metered markets, the show’s highest-rated telecast on any day since the final broadcast of Live with Regis and Kelly in November 2011.

Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres felt the love, too. Monday’s live post-Oscar The Ellen DeGeneres Show was the highest-rated episode in the series’ 11-year history, averaging a 4.8 Household rating/11 share in the overnight markets. The series’ previous high was 3.8, in January 2004.

In its second week, NBC‘s The Voice held most of its premiere numbers, 4.5 A18-49 and 15.7 million total viewers, versus 4.7 and 15.9 million the week prior.

TNT‘s Perception started its winter run on Tuesday with 3.3 million viewers in Live+3, 1.3 million A25-54 and 1.0 million A18-49. The night’s winter premiere of Rizzoli & Isles grew to more than 5.4 million viewers in Live+3, grabbing 1.9 million A25-54 and 1.5 million A18-49 in Live+3.

MSNBC‘s two new shows got off to slow starts. Ronan Farrow Daily averaged 243,000 total viewers its first week, down 40 percent from Andrea Mitchell Reports in the timeslot in 2013, and 55,000 in A25-54, down 42 percent. The Reid Report drew an average 286,000 total viewers, down 8 percent from News Nation with Tamron Hall, and 63,200 in the news demo, down 38 percent.
