YouTube’s upcoming YouTube TV will include 40 channels, the Big Four among them, but has yet to add nets from Time Warner, Viacom, Scripps, AMC Networks and other cable companies with popular shows. Cable networks owned by the big broadcasters are included.

A new report from MoffettNathanson Research found traditional pay TV providers declined 1.7% in 4Q16 (down 319,000 subscribers), versus gains for virtual MVPDs like Dish’s Sling TV and AT&T’s DirecTV Now, which added 500,000 subs. “With the results now in from all the largest operators, it is clear cord-cutting of legacy distribution services – that is, without including OTT-delivered virtual MVPD bundles, like Sling TV and DirecTV now (and soon, YouTube TV) – has at least meaningfully accelerated,” said senior research analyst Craig Moffett.

With strong ratings, an upscale audience and shows that are a natural fit for a variety of ad categories, what is the goal of Scripps Networks Interactive this Upfront season? “We want to be paid full value for the media we sell,” Jon Steinlauf, president, ad sales & marketing, tells Cynopsis. “We just don’t think the differential between what the broadcast networks are being paid and what we’re being paid is right….There’s some imbalance right now with the average rating of broadcast relative to the average rating of top 10, top 20 cable when you look at their CPMs. As the leader of a sales organization in TV that has a very valuable audience, as a goal we have to try to think of working to close some of that gap, broadcast prime being what it is today. Broadcast is still bigger, but the spread has narrowed.”
