First Lady Michelle Obama will appear on the season six finale of Parks and Recreation, stumping for her "Let’s Move" campaign against childhood obesity. Parks star Amy Poehler introduced the First Lady at a "Let’s Move" stop in Miami on Tuesday, where the cameo was filmed; episode is slated for Thursday, April 24 at 8p. Politicians hitting Pawnee in the past: Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. John McCain, Sen. Barbara Boxer and Sen. Olympia Snowe.
Building on "strong ratings momentum… and to create a more complementary set of portfolio groups," Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced a shift in responsibilities for top execs. Eileen O’Neill, Discovery Communications Group President, will be in charge of Discovery Channel, Science Channel and Velocity, with Science and Velocity still overseen by, respectively, GMs Debbie Myers and Bob Scanlon. Group President Marjorie Kaplan adds TLC to her responsibilities at Animal Planet. And Group president Henry Schleiff, already manning Investigation Discovery, Destination America and American Heroes Channel (nee Military), adds Discovery Fit and Health to the mix, with DA’s Marc Etkind and Heroes’ Kevin Bennett still onboard as GMs.
ABC, the last of the Big Four to sign on for Twitter Amplify, will launch its first sponsored-tweet campaign with the Oscars on Sunday. Tweets, including 10 "Twitter mirror" photos from the green room, will be sponsored by Samsung Electronics and originate from @TheAcademy.
The ultimate driving machine is helping propel viewers to History‘s Vikings. The net announced a digital partnership with BMW for the first half of the series’ second season, with on-air vignettes sponsored by the car company designed to drive tune-in and steer viewers to the digital experience, which includes videos that dig into – character and plot. Vikings airs Thursdays at 10p.
Starting tomorrow, March 1, TVGN will encore the most current episodes of CBS reality competitions Amazing Race and Survivor back-to-back, at 8p and 9p. Race gets its initial run on CBS Sundays at 8p, with Survivor airing on the net Wednesdays at 8p.
Red Arrow Entertainment, a unit of Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1, continued its acquisition spree in the U.S. market with a majority stake in reality TV producer Half Yard Productions (Say Yes to the Dress). Half Yard founders Abby Greensfelder and Sean Gallagher will serve as co-CEOs. Red Arrow had already picked up Fabrik Entertainment, Kinetic Content and Left/Right.

BBC America greenlit daredevil auto competition Mud, Sweat & Gears, from BBC Worldwide Productions. Perry Simon, GM of the net, called the show "the perfect fit for BBC America’s Top-Gear-driven Monday night." Production begins next month in California.
BBC Worldwide and Poland’s TVP and Apple Film Production will produce World War I miniseries The Passing Bells, from Tony Jordan (EastEnders) and Red Planet Pictures, shooting in Poland.
Documentary Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe premieres Tuesday, March 18 at 8p on ABC (in the net’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. slot). The doc features interviews and behind-the-scenes footage from Marvel Studios, as well as sneak peeks at upcoming Marvel movies Captain America: Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
"Are We Alone Week" launches Sunday, March 2 on Science Channel, a programming event exploring the possibility of the existence of aliens. NASA’s Unexplained Files airs Sunday and Thursday, March 6 at 10p; Alien Planet Earths airs Monday, March 3 at 10p, and new Close Encounters debut Tuesday, March 4 and Friday, March 7 at 10p and 10:30p. A special ep of Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman premieres Wednesday, March 5 at 10p.
Bulking up its "fun science" offerings to complement hit show Brain Games, Nat Geo launches The Numbers Game Monday, March 24 at 9:30p. The series from National Geographic Television and Goodbye Pictures reveals how to spot a liar, dodge scams and offers a grooming tip that can make you 45 percent more attractive to hiring managers.
Season seven of reality show Giuliana & Bill launches on E! Tuesday, April 1 at 8p. In the premiere, the couple ask if the surrogate who carried their child will agree to a try for another baby.
Think your family’s embarrassing? Hub Network teams with Awkward Family Photos to bring pics from the hit web site to TV as interstitials during "Awkward Family Movie Week." Every night from Monday, March 10 through Sunday, March 16 at 8p, the net will air a movie featuring an awkward family – starting with Addams Family Values.
Participant Media and FilmBuff licensed North American rights to documentary The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz. After theatrical and VOD releases tentatively slated for June 2014, the film will make its television premiere on Participant’s Pivot in Q4.
The Arsenio Hall Show will get a second season – and Jay Leno delivered the news. Leno appeared Wednesday during Hall’s monologue to make the announcement. Said CBS Television Distribution President Joe DiSalvo, "This season, Arsenio has been the youngest late-night talk show on broadcast television and has given our station partners a real alternative for their late-night lineups."
A handful of Bravo‘s Real Housewives of New York City open their abodes for syndicated weekly real estate series Open House NYC this weekend.
Season two of Telemundo singing competition La Voz Kids premieres Sunday, March 16 at 8p. Daisy Fuentes and Jorge Bernal handle hosting chores for the reality show, featuring singers between the ages of seven and 15.
Seems like old times: Della Reese will guest in a two-ep arc on Hallmark Channel‘s upcoming original series, Signed, Sealed, Delivered. The series, premiering Sunday, April 20 at 8p, is in the same time slot once held by Reese’s former show, Touched by an Angel. Reese also reunites with Angel exec producer Martha Williamson, creator and exec producer of Signed.
Carter MacIntyre (Drop Dead Diva) has been cast in USA‘s Benched. The comedy from ABC Signature landed a series order last month.
Gina Rodriguez (Filly Brown) landed the lead in CW pilot Jane the Virgin, from CBS Television Studios and Electus.
Oscars Everywhere: For the first time, the Oscars pre-show and awards telecast will stream live for verified Watch ABC viewers online and on mobile devices – at least, for subscribers of Comcast, Cablevision, Cox, Charter, Midcontinent Communications, Verizon FiOS, Google Fiber and AT&T U-verse in one of ABC’s eight owned station markets. After air, the shows will be made available on demand via Watch ABC for three days, through Wednesday, March 5. ABC’s awards show coverage starts Sunday, March 2 at 7p.
ABC News Digital‘s "Best Oscar Movie from the Past 64 Years" bracket challenge has a winner: Forrest Gump. The challenge, sponsored at launch by JC Penney, had participants voting for the top picks via Facebook and Twitter.
2014 mtvU Woodie Award nominees The 1975 will perform at the show, highlights of which will air Sunday, March 16 at 8p. A new Woodie Award category, the Cover Woodie, presented by Taco Bell, celebrates artists who have taken someone else’s hit and made it their own.
Global fashion/entertainment broadcaster Fashion One has been renamed F.O. in the European Union, due in part to an injunction in a lower court in Austria requiring a temporary rename. Fashion One is appealing the injunction.
Mexico’s arts and entertainment channel Canal 22 is marking International Women’s Day, March 8, with movies every Saturday at 8p during the month that focus on the struggles and successes of women. First up: El Secreto de Romelia (1988) on March 1, about a divorced woman digging into her past.

ABC‘s Modern Family claimed the top spot among A18-49 for Wednesday, with its 3.1/9 rating out-delivering Fox‘s American Idol and the premiere of CBS‘s Survivor in the demo. Newcomer Mixology followed at 9:30p with 1.7/5 A18-49, the net’s lowest-rated comedy premiere of the season.
The season two debut of Bulloch Family Ranch delivered triple digit gains in audience for UP, reports the net. Ranch boosted A25-54 delivery by a whopping 827 percent over the prior four weeks, and A18-49 delivery grew by 319 percent. Total households more than doubled over the four weeks prior, with the premiere averaging 375,000 P2+.
Univision closed February claiming the number three spot in sweeps among A18-34 in primetime, out-delivering ABC by 6 percent and CBS by 19 percent in the demo.
CBS This Morning: Saturday posted the net’s best February sweep delivery in viewers in the time period since 2007, according to Nielsen, up 9 percent in viewers (2.02 million from 1.86 million) versus February 2013.
ABC‘s Good Morning America Saturday won its first February sweeps with its best-ever sweeps performance in both total viewers (4.4 million) and A25-54 (1.6 million), according to Nielsen.
The season two premiere of FX‘s The Americans delivered 1.9 million viewers, down from 3.22 million for its series premiere. The good news: the show was up 2 percent in total viewers from season one’s 1.85 million average.

Idol remained in first for the 9p hour with 2.7/7 versus a 2.4/7 average for ABC’s Modern Family and the premiere of Mixology. At 10p, CBS’s Criminal Minds and NBC’s Chicago PD tied for the top spot with 2.2/6.
