The Winter Olympics sent a chill through much of syndication programming the week ending February 16. Shows on some NBC affiliates were preempted, and programs that did air had stiff competition. NBCUniversal‘s Access Hollywood broke through by covering news of the Games, earning a 2.2 rating, according to Nielsen, up 5 percent from the week prior and up 22 percent versus last year.
Despite the Olympics disadvantage, LIVE with Kelly and Michael scored a 3.1 rating, down a not surprising 14 percent versus last week but enough to tie with Dr. Phil for top talker, and up 19 percent in HH versus the year-ago week.
Tuesday’s premiere of Game of Arms drew 1 million viewers and 626,000 A18-49, according to Nielsen, making the arm wrestling show the net’s highest weeknight unscripted series premiere ever.
HGTV was the second highest-rated cable network among the upscale P25-54 audience on Sunday night, with over 5.4 million total and audience growth over the prior four weeks among all key demos, including a 38 percent increase in P25-54 ratings. The net was the third highest-rated cable network among upscale M25-54, delivering a 69 percent increase among M25-54 – its highest-rated Sunday night in that demo since January 2013.
The two-hour season finale of BET‘s Being Mary Jane on Tuesday delivered 2.6 million viewers P2+ from 9-10p, and 3.3 million from 10-11p.
The Thursday, February 24 season three finale of WE tv‘s Braxton Family Values delivered nearly 1.5 million total viewers and 896,000 A18-49, and the freshman finale of SWV Reunited delivered more than 1 million total viewers and 672,000 A18-49.
