IN THE NEWS

Syfy canceled drama Being Human, now in its fourth season. Thanking production company Muse Entertainment for their work on the show, the net said in a statement, "They’ve saved the best for last with the final six episodes that revisit the story’s beginning." Being Human airs Mondays at 9p; finale is April 7.

The cast and creators of upcoming NBC comedy Undateable are taking to the road to promote the show, in a multi-city, cross-country comedy tour. Series stars Chris D’Elia, Brent Morin, Ron Funches and Rick Glassman, all standup comedians, will do sets in cities including NYC, Boston, Chicago and LA during the month of March. "Since it’s so hard to launch a network comedy in this competitive landscape, we thought we would try a little grassroots marketing," explained co-creator and exec producer Adam Sztykiel. Series bows in the spring.

Telemundo is partnering with Dr Pepper for a multiplatform campaign celebrating the personal and professional lives of telenovela actress Carmen Villalobos, Mexican TV and music star Litzy and Telemundo leading man Eugenio Siller. Each will participate in on-air appearances, a web series and social media to support the effort. "Having this unprecedented access to the unique lives of Telemundo’s brightest stars is an authentic, original way to reach Hispanic audiences," said Olivia Vela, director of Hispanic brand marketing for Dr Pepper.

American Idol digital pre-show, American Idol Insider, will air Mondays across Vevo, featuring interviews with judges, mentors and finalists. YouTube‘s Sam Tsui will host (what, Ryan Seacrest was busy?). The top 13 Idol hopefuls compete tonight, Wednesday, February 26 and Thursday, February 27 at 8p.

CBS has ordered a pilot for Matthew Perry‘s Odd Couple reboot, reports Variety. Perry, who co-wrote and will be an exec producer, plays slob Oscar Madison.

Fusion CEO Isaac Lee sent a memo to his team applauding them for the 4-month-old net’s "exceptional" week of news coverage, including events in Mexico City, Miami, Venezuela and the Ukraine. "With few national outlets covering the story from the streets of Caracas, Fusion filled a void for many," said Lee. "We saw an incredible amount of social media engagement with people sharing our Venezuela content at double our average rate – and not only are people engaging with our content, but they are also using our content to engage with each other organically."

Science Channel is the new exclusive sponsor of the Museum of Science Fiction. Science will provide video content for museum exhibits, promotional support and collaborate on joint events around Washington, D.C. "Sometimes science fiction is the next inspiration for science," said Debbie Myers, EVP and GM, Science Channel. "Cell phones, tablets and much of the technology we take for granted are works of science fiction that have become science fact."

Entertainment Studios, Inc., producer and distributor of first-run syndicated television programming and owner of seven HD cable networks, announced its plan for SMARTTV.COM to add local broadcast television station signals to its over-the-top television platform. SMARTTV.COM will compensate local television stations by paying retrans fees starting in Q4.

Fresh from covering the Olympics, best-dressed commentators Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski landed jobs covering the Oscars red carpet for Access Hollywood. Said Weir, "I hope to bring my own special brand of sparkle to the broadcast."

Kenny Loggins lends his voice to FX‘s Archer on Monday, March 3 at 10p, performing his hit song, "Danger Zone."

A&E‘s Storage Wars returns for season five with back-to-back eps on Tuesday, March 18 at 9p and 9:30p. New limited series Barry’d Treasure, featuring Storage Wars fave Barry Weiss, follows at 10p and 10:30p.

Showtime is offering a sneak peek at upcoming horror series Penny Dreadful at the SXSW film conference on Sunday, March 9. Stars Josh Hartnett and Harry Treadway and director Juan Antonio Bayona will be on hand in Austin for a Q&A. Showtime premiere is Sunday, May 11 at 10p.

CASTING

Oscar nominee Viola Davis is set to star in ABC drama pilot How to Get Away, the Hollywood Reporter revealed, as a brilliant criminal defense attorney. Show comes from Shonda Rimes and Betsy Beers (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal).

Jamie Lee Curtis has been cast in a CBS pilot as a doctor and mother of four quadruplets who were raised on a reality show. Yet-to-be-named project comes from CBS Television Studios.

Ashley Judd will star in NBC pilot Salvation as the widow of a mega-church pastor.

Wings alum Tim Daly will play the husband of the Secretary of State (Tea Leoni) in CBS drama pilot Madam Secretary.

Hallmark Channel has made a deal with ITV Studios America for an original 10-ep series based on its successful movie franchise, The Good Witch, with Catherine Bell returning as enchantress Cassie Nightingale. Series premiere expected in Q1 2015.

DISTRIBUTION & CARRIAGE

The ScreenScape HD 2 syndicated barter movie package from ScreenMedia and Delta Television Group is now cleared in over 85 percent of the country, on stations from ABC, CBS and Fox O&O’s as well as from Cox, Sinclair, Tribune, Hearst, Lin, Meredith, Nextstar and the CW100+. Launching May 2014.

Rive Gauche Television acquired international rights to TNT‘s APB with Troy Dunn.

INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS

AMC series The Red Road will premiere on Sundance Channel internationally on Thursday, April 24. AMC/Sundance Channel Global has exclusive rights for Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, France, Iberia, Benelux, Poland and CEE.

Peacock Alley announced the sale of factual series High Tech Rednecks to Italy’s De Agostini Editore for satellite TV platform DeASapereHD and to home entertainment distributor Beyond Home Entertainment for Australia and New Zealand. Lifestyle series Money Moron has been sold to SBS/Discovery Norway.

FremantleMedia International acquired global distribution rights to The Sixties, a docu-series from CNN Originals.

RATINGS

Six episodes away from its series finale, CBS‘s How I Met Your Mother was the number one program Monday night among A18-34 with 3.6/12, edging past the return of NBC‘s The Voice (3.5/11) in the demo. The singing competition handily won the night in total viewers (14.3 million) and in A18-49, lifting The Blacklist 24 percent higher than its last, Voice-less outing four weeks ago.

Episode 6 of HBO’s Matthew McConaughey/Woody Harrelson drama anthology True Detective delivered a series-high average 2.6 million viewers on Sunday, up from 2.3 million for its January premiere.

Investigation Discovery had its best February ever in Prime HH (up 32 percent, to 765,000), P2+ (up 29 percent, to 904,000), A18-49 (up 31 percent, to 331,000) and W25-54 (up 26 percent, to 274,000) delivery.

TBS‘s Cougar Town attracted2.0 million viewers in Live + 3 viewing (up 18 percent versus the prior week), with 1.3 million A18-49 up (15 percent) and 620,000 A18-34 (up 23 percent). TBS ranked as basic cable’s number one network in primetime delivery of A18-49 for the month of February.

Its telecast of the 45th NAACP Awards was TV One‘s most-watched programming event ever among total households (718,000) and P2+ (935,000) from 9p-11p, and placed sixth on Nielsen’s Twitter TV Top 10 list for the week. "The viewer response was extremely rewarding," net president and CEO Alfred Liggins tells Cynopsis. "We’re pleased to have delivered such an exciting night of entertainment that was so well-received."

Destination America is boasting its best February ever in prime, up 44 percent in HH versus February 2013, up 45 percent in P2+ and up 32 percent in P25-54.

Monday’s BET Honors premiere drew over 2 million viewers. The show, honoring distinguished African Americans, was up 5 percent from last year, and was the top Monday telecast on BET for the 2013-2014 season so far.

Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game on TNT was basic cable’s number one sporting event for the month among total viewers (7.5 million), A18-49 (4.2 million), A25-54 (3.4 million) and A18-34 (2.5 million)

The premiere of The Voice earned NBC 4.3/12 at 8p, enough to beat an average 3.1/9 for CBS’s How I Met Your Mother and 2 Broke Girls. NBC’s Sochi Gold scored 2.4/8 at 7p, with America’s Funniest Home Videos taking second (1.4/4). Sochi Gold and the closing ceremony earned an average 3.5/10 for NBC at 8p, against 1.7/5 for Fox’s Daytona 500 event. The Olympics farewell scored 3.3/8 at 9p, followed by 2.6/7 for Daytona.
