The launch of WWE Network got off to a rocky start Monday, when demand "that exceeded anything we have seen in 14 years of doing e-commerce," according to tech partner Major League Baseball Advanced Media, rendered the video net unable to process orders for most of the morning. By early afternoon, the site was ready and able to sign up $9.99/month subscribers.
CNN has canceled struggling Piers Morgan Live, saying the airdate of the final show "is still to be determined." But Morgan isn’t going down without a fight. "I wouldn’t get too excited @NRA," the gun control advocate tweeted Monday, "I’m not done with you yet." The 9p talker delivered 364,000 viewers on Thursday, according to Nielsen.
If the Supreme Court lets streamer-of-broadcast signals Aereo stay in business, ABC warned in a brief filed Monday, networks would be forced to "reconsider the quality and quantity of the programs they broadcast for free." Court case begins April 22.
NBCUniversal and Xerox announced a cross-portfolio partnership for 30 Seconds to Know, a video series that explains complicated subjects ("Are black holes dangerous?") in a simple format. Each network hub will link to the program’s other participating brands’ content. "We were impressed with NBCUniversal’s integrated approach to media sponsorship across their various platforms," said Barbara Basney, VP, global advertising and media for Xerox. "We’re able to ensure brand consistency across the key networks we advertise on most news and sports."
Netflix and broadband providers have been battling over who should foot the bill for increasing bandwidth loads, but the deal Netflix inked with Comcast, which calls for the streaming service to pay for direct access to the cable and broadband provider’s network, isn’t necessarily a loss. BTIG media analyst Richard Greenfield said in his blog, "We believe Comcast and Netflix reaching a deal illustrates how both companies were able to work out a mutually-agreeable market based solution without government intervention or regulation."
ABC.com launched a short-form video series, Bar-Cabulary, that’s a companion to upcoming new comedy Mixology (sample: Bargument, an argument that’s only important because you’re drunk). Mixology, from ABC Studios and Ryan Seacrest Productions, premieres Wednesday, February 26 at 9:30p on ABC.

TruthCo.‘s "New World of Television" study, analyzing changes in the industry, says cultural success is the most important driver of ratings today. "In the old television model, shows were designed to appeal to the biggest, broadest audience possible," Linda Ong, TruthCo. president and brand strategist, tells Cynopsis. "In the new world of TV, shows created with a very specific, even narrow, vision – more niche than mass – cultivate fervent fans first, that then bring along the rest of the audience."
TiVo released its "Top Chills, Spills and Thrills" lists from the Olympics, and figure skaters topped each one. Top chill: Team USA’s Ashley Wagner consulting the scoreboard after her short program. Top spill: USA’s Jeremy Abbott taking a hard fall as he attempts a quadruple toe loop in the Men’s short program. Top thrill: Russian’s Yulia Lipnitskaya‘s awe-inspiring spin during the short program. Ranking is based on Live+Same Day ratings in DVR homes.
Sportsman Channel extended its partnership with outdoor lifestyle company Mossy Oak, incorporating advertising with the net’s Saturday afternoon waterfowl block, and extending the company’s sponsorship of MeatEater, Thursdays at 8p.
