“Every single aspect of the supply chain is guilty of putting self-interest over the interests of the industry,” said Scott Schiller, EVP and GM of ad sales and client partnerships at NBCUniversal, and newly-elected chairman of the Interactive Advertising Bureau. Speaking at the group’s leadership meeting in Palm Desert, CA, Schiller said that while work has been done since last year’s meeting, when P&G CMO Marc Pritchard gave a call to action for viewability standards, “We have to make measurement make sense.”

The association also published research suggesting that growth in most consumer categories is shifting to brands centered on direct consumer relationships and agile supply chains. The study, “The Rise of the 21st Century Brand Economy,” said companies like Warby Parker, Glossier and Away are not “interesting curiosities,” but represent an “enduring shift in the way the consumer economy operates.”

According to a report the IAB released with Winterberry Group yesterday, 60% of marketers, publishers and tech developers said their organizations spent more on data in 2017 than in 2016, and 81% plan to invest in higher levels in 2018. “The Outlook for Data 2018: A Snapshot into the Evolving Role of Audience Insight” also found only 12% planned to spend the same amount on data as they did in 2017, versus the 30% who offered that response in 2016. “The projected increased investment in data aligns with our research on direct brands,” said Orchid Richardson, VP and managing director of IAB Data Center of Excellence. This trend is centered on utilizing consumer data to create custom experience and increased value to customers.”

Snapchat hopes to attract advertisers on competing services like Instagram – especially Instagram – by offering them free advertising credits, according to Recode. The program is open to advertisers who bought vertical video ads online.

Creepers beware: Instagram is testing a feature that notifies users when someone screenshots their stories (as Snapchat already does), which would otherwise disappear after 24 hours. “We are always testing ways to improve the experience,” an Instagram spokesperson told TechCrunch.
