Good morning. It’s Wednesday February 11, 2015, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

The English Premier League fattened its wallet, with Britain’s Sky and BT signing on to pay around $7.8 billion for a three-year domestic rights deal in the country. That marks a 70% spike over the previous contract with the new accord running through 2018, and joins an earlier deal with the BBC announced a month ago. Overall, Sky ponies up $6.4 billion to carry 126 games per season, while BT’s deal showcases 42 live games.

“We are looking forward to bringing even more live Premier League football to viewers. Only Sky Sports will have the best match picks and the best slots so our viewers will be able to follow the biggest matches, the key head to heads and every club at least four times,” said Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports.

ON THE AIR

The Automobile Racing Club of America locked in a new multi-year broadcast deal with FOX Sports for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards that will see FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 carry the events during the 2015-2017 racing seasons. Ten races will be shown on either FOX Sports 1 or FOX Sports 2 in 2015. “FOX Sports continues its long-term commitment to motor sports, securing a multi-year deal with the ARCA Racing Series,” said Patrick Crakes, SVP Programming, Research and Content Strategy for FOX Sports. “FOX Sports and ARCA have a long history together, and we are happy to extend that significant relationship with this new contract.”

TNT lined up the first-ever NBA fashion show, dubbed NBA All-Star All-Style presented by Samsung Galaxy, which will run on Feb. 14 at 6:30p. The showcase is executive produced by LeBron James’ Springhill Production Company, in association with Turner Sports and IMG, and feature a runway competition with the likes of James Harden, Klay Thompson,Chandler Parsons, DeMarcus Cousins, Zach LaVine and other NBA stars, as well as models and style experts and Shaquille O’Neal set as the emcee. “Fashion and players’ personal style have become incredibly popular extensions of the NBA, and with this new content initiative, we’ve tapped into their intersection with basketball to create a one-of-a-kind opportunity for brands,” said Will Funk. CBS Sports Network unveiled its 2015 Torque.TV schedule of motorsports programming. The schedule debuts on Saturday, March 14 with the Pirelli World Challenge from Circuit of the Americas in Austin with the channel lining up over 130 hours of coverage.

Actor Vince Vaughn was announced as the grand marshal for the 57th annual Daytona 500 on Feb. 22 at 1p on FOX. Vaughn will deliver the famed "Drivers, start your engines" line and participate in pre-race ceremonies that include riding in one of the grand marshal cars during the pace laps prior to the green flag for the 200-lap, 500-mile race.

CAA Sports and Roc Nation Sports parted ways after a two year partnership, according to multiple reports. Roc Nation teamed up with CAA in April 2013 but the parting of ways is being dubbed “amicable.”

SPONSORSHIP & PROMOTION

DICK’S Sporting Goods is buying in to Team USA, announcing a sponsorship deal with the United States Olympic Committee that makes the retailer the Official Sporting Goods Retail Sponsor to the USOC and Team USA. The partnership will include an in-store employment program and sporting goods equipment donations, as needed, to the U.S. Olympic Training Centers. DICK’S is also planning to offer sponsorships and sporting goods equipment from their stores to several Team USA athletes. “At DICK’S, we believe in the spirit of athletes and the power of their dreams,” said Lauren Hobart, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, DICK’S Sporting Goods. “We plan to be there to support the athletes who need it most, in a way that no other sporting goods retailer possibly can.”

Bellator MMA announced that Miller Lite has been named the official title sponsor for the promotion’s event, marking the first-ever deal of its kind for the MMA company. The agreement opens with Bellator 134: The British Invasion on Feb. 27.  The deal will run across all of Spike and Bellator’s platforms and on-site at venues and include an on-air branded fight clock graphic, mat signage, custom tune-in spots, and signage at all press conferences. Miller Lite will also support local market activations.

International sports marketing company Infront Sports & Media AG was acquired by Dalian Wanda Group Co., Ltd., one of the leading Chinese conglomerates, in a deal valued at $1.2 billion. Executives stated that the deal will drive the development of Chinese sports industry and its interest around the globe and help China in its bidding efforts for major sports events.

DIGITAL & TECHNOLOGY

With an eye toward millennials, the PGA TOUR and Bedrocket are launching a joint venture to launch golf’s first internet video network, Skratch TV. The platform will offer daily golf video comprised of original and curated programming, PGA TOUR highlights, and special production from events. “As younger fans find new ways to follow their favorite sports, it’s important to deliver great golf content to platforms that they use and in a voice that resonates with them,” said Tim Finchem, PGA TOUR Commissioner.  “We believe Skratch TV will provide a tremendous new platform to effectively speak to this audience.”

NASCAR added sports content provider SportsData to its team to distribute its live timing and scoring data to third-party digital outlets. SportsData becomes the first content provider to go to market with data from the NASCAR timing and scoring feed for an entire race weekend. The real-time data will be available for all three national series and allow digital outlets to develop enhanced NASCAR digital products that include a live race leaderboard and more.

The National Basketball Players Association unveiled its first-ever player-specific app, developed and designed by SportsBlog.com, featuring video messages from Union leadership, player-polling capabilities, and direct contact to Union staff. During its initial rollout, more than 100 players downloaded the app and have started to engage with its features. The second phase of the app will offer a unique feature allowing any player to post blogs directly to SportsBlog.com.

Intersport, producers of the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships, is opening first round voting for the 2015 State Farm Dark Horse Dunker competition through Feb. 18. The 16-player field will compete against college basketball’s stars in the College Slam Dunk Championship. Fans will determine the winner by voting daily at DarkHorseDunker.com throughout the four-week competition.
