CYNOPSISSPORTS
02.02.15

Good morning. It’s Monday February 2, 2015, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

While late-game thrills delivered what is probably the most entertaining Super Bowl ending of all time, commercials continued their tradition of dominating the conversation for much of the event. According to iSpot.tv, Budweiser’s Lost Dog spot took home the top slot among the ads for the big game, based on the company’s Top 10 overall Super Bowl commercials as measured by overall online views and social activities since their release. The spot drew 178,433 social actions and 3.5+ million online views from its $8.8 million TV spend.

Taking the runner-up slot was the Always: Like a Girl spot, with 233,070 social actions and 1.5+ million online views, also for the cool cost of $8.8 million. Rounding out the top five, according to the company were: NBC’s The Voice Super Bowl 2015 promo, with 622,274 online views/166,318 social actions; the Universal Pictures: Minions Super Bowl 2015 trailer at 1.2+ million online views and 116,140 social actions; and the BMW: Newfangles Idea spot in fifth place with 3.6 million online views and 6,030 social actions.

Before the game, Front Row Analytics said the Budweiser’s Lost Dog spot was easily the most viewed commercial, garnering over 46 million views on Feb.1. Right behind was Bud Light’s Real Life Pac Man at 16.3 million, T-Mobile’s #KimDataStash at 14.9 million, BMW’s Newfangles Idea at 9.5 million and Carl’s Jr. All-Natural with 6.7 million.

ON THE AIR

In pregame Super Bowl festivities, NBC’s coverage of SNL’s NFL Saturday and The NFL Honors drew early ratings of 0.9 and 1.2 in the 18-49 demo, according to Nielsen Fast Nationals. For the awards show, the program was up from last year’s 0.9 that ran on FOX, according to TVbytheNumbers.

Univision Deportes scored the most-viewed soccer match of the week across all networks with the America-Puebla match on Jen. 24, marking the third consecutive week the company has delivered the most-viewed soccer match across all networks. The game delivered 1.2 million Total Viewers.

Voters chose Heat/Pistons as the centerpiece of NBA TV Fan Night presented by Sprint. The game is slated for tomorrow at 7:30p as part of a network doubleheader that will also feature the Jazz/Trail Blazers at 10p.

ESPN’s College GameDay Covered by State Farm hits Gainesville on Saturday, visiting the campus of the University of Florida. The stop comes ahead of the Saturday Primetime presented by DIRECTV matchup between Kentucky/Florida at 9p on ESPN. GameDay’s first hour airs at 10a on ESPNU, and continues live at 11a on ESPN.

Now that the Super Bowl is wrapped up, Cinedigm, the NFL and NFL Films are now teaming up for Super Bowl XLIX Champions. The film will be made available on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital Download on March 3 and offered on Blu-Ray for $34.93 and DVD for $24.99. Bonus features will include Media Day highlights, postgame ceremonies and player profiles.

SPONSORSHIP & PROMOTION

The NFL revealed a $2 Million Super Bowl Legacy Grant, designed to assist more than 25 community projects within the Super Bowl host community. The announcement was made at ASU Preparatory Academy School, one of this year’s grant recipient locations. As part of today’s event, ESPN also announced their support of Heads Up Football by donating $30,000 towards the initiative to help Arizona-based high school coaches become Heads Up Football certified in 2015.

DIGITAL & TECHNOLOGY

The NBA is broadening tied with its digital partner on China, striking a deal with Tencent Holdings Limited, a provider of comprehensive Internet services in China. The five-year expansion of their partnership will create the league’s largest international digital partnership starting July 1 and see Tencent offer a record number of live NBA games and deliver enhanced original NBA programming and highlights, including NBA preseason and regular-season games, NBA All-Star, the NBA Playoffs, The Finals, NBA Summer League and the NBA Draft through personal computers system and mobile devices. In addition, Tencent and the NBA will launch the first-ever NBA League Pass offering in China.

Tennis Channel is serving up some digital upticks across the network’s digital platforms. The Australian Open helped push Tennis Channel Plus is the number one gross revenue service in the Apple Store last week. Tennis Channel has been among the first to implement a Hybrid TVE approach that hands fans access to their 24/7 linear channel as well as the option to purchase a subscription product with content not available on TV.

ESPN offers live and on-demand coverage in the US of the entire ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, which spans February 13 – March 28. Programming will be available on dedicated subscription streaming service, ESPNcricket2015.com, which will launch February 3. All 49 matches will be available live and on replay for $99.99. In addition, ESPN entered agreements with DISH Network, Mediacom and Time Warner Cable to make all 49 matches available to subscribers through each company’s pay per view platform.
