02/16/21: The IOC laid out a new guideline for its future

The IOC’s executive board unveiled a new strategic roadmap on Monday, titled Olympic Agenda 2020+5, laying out 15 recommendations for the organization to prioritize over the next five years. The initiative will be submitted to the IOC members for discussion and adoption at the 137th IOC session in March this year with the proposals based on key trends that have been identified as likely to be decisive in the post-coronavirus world. The 15 recommendations include:
· Strengthen the uniqueness and the universality of the Olympic Games
· Foster sustainable Olympic Games
· Reinforce athletes’ rights and responsibilities
· Continue to attract best athletes
· Further strengthen safe sport and the protection of clean athletes
· Enhance and promote the Road to the Olympic Games
· Coordinate the harmonization of the sports calendar
· Grow digital engagement with people
· Encourage the development of virtual sports and further engage with video gaming communities
· Strengthen the role of sport as an important enabler for the UN Sustainable Development Goals
· Strengthen the support to refugees and populations affected by displacement
· Reach out beyond the Olympic community
· Continue to lead by example in corporate citizenship
· Strengthen the Olympic movement through good governance
· Innovate revenue generation models


With the NASCAR season underway, the series announced that it locked in record international reach with IMG for the 2021 season. The deal sees NASCAR content being made available in nearly 200 countries and territories with content in over 25 languages. That marks a new record for the sport. “NASCAR is a strong global brand, and we take great pride in growing the sport to every corner of the world,” said Nick Skipper, NASCAR’s Senior Director of Media Strategy, “It’s a pleasure working with best-in-class partner IMG to deliver Nascar entertainment to new and existing audiences internationally.”

Univision’s TUDN is set to, for the first time, offer fans all three matches featuring the U.S. women’s national team during the 2021 SheBelieves Cup. Competition kicks off on Feb. 18 for the four-team tournament as the US faces off against Canada at 7p. Matches are also available digitally to all authenticated TUDN subscribers via the TUDN app andTUDN.TV and will also be available on the TUDN Radio Network.

The USTFCCCA is partnering with ESPN in announcing that the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will be carried live on ESPN’s linear channels and through ESPN’s online platforms through at least 2023. The events return to live television for the first time since 2009 and will be exclusively presented on ESPNU and available through the ESPN App on march 15 at 12:30p. “We look forward to showcasing the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on ESPNU this spring and in the years to come,” said Dan Margulis, ESPN senior director, programming & acquisitions. “We greatly value our relationships with both the NCAA and the USTFCCCA, and are thrilled to highlight the hard work of these student-athletes as they conclude an unparalleled season.”

Catching up on local talent, the San Francisco 49ers extended the contract of U.S. Bank 49ers Radio Network color analyst Tim Ryan through the 2025 season. Ryan will continue to work with Greg Papa, who joined the 49ers in 2019.

The Dodgers announced that Kirsten Watson will now serve as reporter and host, contributing to the Dodgers’ SportsNet LA game broadcasts and studio programming as well as pro- and postgame coverage on both television and radio.

FOX Sports Ohio, in partnership with the Cincinnati Reds, announced that John Sadak will join the Reds television broadcast team to handle play-by-play. Sadak will also be a regular contributor to Reds Live pre- and postgame shows on FOX Sports Ohio and provide fans behind-the-scenes access via social media.

Fan Controlled Football kicked off play over the weekend, in addition to announcing a slate of new partnerships with Wendy’s, WHOOP, Vroom, Kinexon, Black Box VR and Schell Games. Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino cemented a multi-year naming rights deal with Anheuser-Busch to rename the resort’s sports and entertainment venue in Las Vegas as Michelob ULTRA Arena. Discovery and Snap unlocked a new content and advertising partnership targeting the Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. The arrangement will showcase the best of discovery+ and Eurosport’s Olympic Games content and coverage, shared through a new Eurosport Olympics daily show on Snapchat’s Discover platform. Two episodes will run every day during the Olympic Games to Snapchatters across Europe.

FanDuel Group and WSC Sports, a Tel Aviv-based startup that leverages artificial intelligence to generate highlights from live sports broadcasts, announced a partnership to push real-time highlights of golf events to FanDuel Sportsbook app users. This marks the first time a U.S. sports betting operator will deliver highlights packages to sports bettors. “We’re taking the FanDuel Sportsbook app experience beyond just placing a bet — now our customers will get the best highlights pushed to them each week to consume and act on,” said Adam Kaplan, GM/VP of Sports Content, FanDuel Group. “Part of our ongoing focus is providing a fully integrated experience that gives our customers the ability to follow and interact in real-time with the sports they care about.”


Call of Duty League squad LA Thieves confirmed a partnership with new sponsor MTN DEW GAME FUEL. With the CDL season underway, the brand will now be integrated into LA Thieves content and social media outlets. The league’s only new team previously announced a deal with Dollar Shave Club.
