IN THE NEWS
CBS This Morning anchor Gayle King posted a two-part video on social media on Thursday, explaining that she was “mortified” at the posting of a “salacious” clip of her interview with Lisa Leslie. In the clip, King asks the former WNBA star about Kobe Bryant’s legacy being complicated by his sexual assault case in Colorado. (The criminal complaint against Bryant was dropped, after he reached an out-of-court settlement with his 19-year-old accuser and issued a statement conceding that their sexual encounter may not have seemed consensual to her.) Leslie responded that in all her dealings with Bryant, she never knew him to be “the kind of person that would… do something to violate a woman or be aggressive in that way.” King replied, “But Lisa, you wouldn’t see it, though. As his friend, you wouldn’t see it.” King took issue with CBS releasing a clip that she felt didn’t show the full scope of the interview. “[It was] totally out of context, and when you see it that way, it’s very jarring,” said King. A CBS News spokesperson acknowledged that the clip “did not reflect the nature and tone of the full interview. We are addressing the internal process that led to this and changes have already been made.”
