The allegation by two writers that Fox comedy New Girl was based on a script they wrote was soundly rejected by a U.S. District Court judge. “No reasonable jury could conclude that there are substantial similarities in the plot, sequence of events, characters, mood, pace, setting, theme or dialogue between Square One and New Girl,” wrote Judge Stephen V. Wilson, granting a summary judgment to Fox and others in a copyright lawsuit. Season five of New Girl premieres tonight.
