Good morning. It’s Tuesday January 3, 2017 and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

The NFL locked in its postseason matchups with the playoffs set to kick off on Jan 7 and running through Super Bowl LI on Feb. 5 beginning with the Raiders/Texans at 4:30 on ESPN/ABC, followed by Lions/Seahawks on NBC at 8:15p. Sunday brings Dolphins/Steelers on CBS at 1p while Giants/Packers face off on FOX at 4:40p. Divisional weekend opens on Jan. 14 at Atlanta at 4:30p on FOX, while CBS hosts the Patriots first game at 8:15p. Jan 15 sees the Chiefs host on NBC at 1p, followed by the Cowboys opening game at 4:40p.

Meanwhile, the last game of the regular season saw NBC’s Packers/Lions matchup on SNF average a Total Audience Delivery of 24.0 million viewers across NBC & NBC Sports Digital, with NBC’s 23.8M viewers marking the fourth consecutive SNF game with at least 21 million viewers. In overnight ratings, the game notched a 13.7/23 to win the night in primetime.

ON THE AIR

In other ratings news, the College Football Playoff Semifinals on Dec. 31 provided boosts for ESPN, although the games were still down from its debut two years ago when they took place on Jan. 1. The two matchups delivered double-digit total live audience growth, averaging a total live audience of 19,728,000 viewers, up 14% from last season’s CFP Semifinal doubleheader. The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl between Washington/Alabama saw a total live audience of 19,814,000 viewers, for a 24% increase from last season’s semifinal, while the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl between Ohio State/Clemson – delivered a total live audience of 19,646,000 viewers for the blowout, up 4%. Counting the Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 30, the first three games of the New Year’s Six are averaging a total live audience of 16,765,000 viewers, a 27% uptick from the first three games of last season’s New Year’s Six.

Speaking of ESPN, the company announced a series of special guests as First Take moves to the flagship channel at 10a starting today. The first day sees Wale perform the theme song live from the First Take set, with additional guests during the week set to include Jim Kelly and Ice Cube.

Good news for YES Network, which saw Comcast and 21st Century Fox lock in a new carriage deal that brings the RSN back to the Comcast lineup. The new deal included FOX News Channel as well as a dozen other Fox-owned regional cable networks although the WSJ writes that the channel likely won’t be back until after the baseball season starts in the spring. “We always said that we would continue to evaluate whether there was a way to bring back the YES Network under terms that are consistent with our commitment to providing the best programming at the best possible price,” Comcast said in a statement. “Our year-end discussions with Fox gave us a chance to revisit this, and we were able to reach an overall agreement for Fox News Channel, 12 Fox RSNs, and YES Network that makes sense for both of us  and most importantly, our customers.”

MLB Network reports that 2016 delivered the channel with its most-watched year ever in prime time, averaging 145,000 viewers, and marking a 4% increase from its previous all-time high in 2015. The channel also saw its best-ever fourth quarter, with 124,000 average prime time viewers and 58,000 viewers in total day to date, marking increases of 107% and 14% over 2015, respectively.
