IN THE NEWS

“Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches” has dethroned “Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire.” Now the top new series premieres ever on AMC+, “Interview with a Vampire” – the second series in the growing Anne Rice Immortal Universe – delivered 1.7 million viewers within three days on linear networks in Nielsen Live+3 ratings. The linear performance secured “Mayfair Witches” as a top 10 cable drama for the 2022-2023 season among A25-54 and A18-49.

Bryan Cranston is onboard for a “Malcolm in the Middle” reunion. The Emmy-winning actor confirmed there have been discussions about the original cast reprising their roles for a reunion movie. “Oh, that would be fantastic to explore what happened to this family 20 years later,” said Cranston, currently starring “Your Honor.” Frankie Muniz, who starred in the show’s titular role, also said he “would be down, 100 percent.”

And Just Like That: Carrie and Aidan, reunited? The old flames were photographed holding hands in Manhattan for the second season of the “Sex and the City” HBO Max reboot “And Just Like That…”. The return of John Corbett, who plays Aidan Shaw, to the franchise was confirmed back in August, and has since reignited the Team Big vs. Team Aidan clash among fans.

Season four of “Snowpiercer,” which has completed production, will not air on TNT. “This was a difficult decision…We have been working collaboratively with the producers since last year to help the series find a new home where fans can continue to enjoy the compelling story and exceptional visual experience,” said a network rep. “We look forward to working with them on future projects.” The fourth and final season of the post-apocalyptic series was allegedly cut due to tax write-offs for Warner Bros. Discovery content.

Netflix has canceled “Dead End: Paranormal Park” after two seasons. The animated series about talking dogs based on Hamish Steele’s graphic novels, featuring the voices of Emily Osment and Zach Barack, launched in June 2022.

PBS and American Experience are offering two new documentaries exploring the mixed legacy of America’s efforts to racially integrate public schools. “Boston School Battle” (wt) captures the class tensions and racial violence that met the city’s decision to use busing to end school segregation, while “The Harvest” is a personal look at Leland, Mississippi’s attempts to desegregate its schools. Both films will premiere in fall 2023.

Ryan Reynolds will produce and narrate National Geographic’s “Underdogs.” In collaboration with Reynold’s company Maximum Effort, the natural history series will reposition nature’s supporting actors in leading roles. The series debut is slated for 2025.

STREAMING

Netflix has taken CBS’s Upfront presentation position on May 17 at 5p in New York. CBS, now part of Paramount Global, had held the Carnegie Hall slot for years, but last month announced it is opting instead for more intimate gatherings for major agency partners and their clients.

The current blackout only allows live games to stream on services that provide local stations, meaning fans living outside of their team’s city would either have to watch on linear or at the ballpark. The current restrictions are in place to protect local television partners, but as streaming becomes more popular, it will be up to new MLB hire Billy Chambers to mediate the issues.
