CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Cynopsis

11/30/05

Good morning.  It’s Wednesday, November 30, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing.

American Idol fans – no worries!  The show will be back thru 2009 with at least 6 more season, if not more, and Simon Cowell will be in tow for at least five of those new seasons.  American Idol is co-owned and co-produced by FremantleMedia North America, Inc. and 19 Entertainment.

This is what they mean by product integration and awareness.  In the Wednesday night episode of CSI: NY, a cellphone belonging to investigator Danny Messer will ring.  The ringtone will be the song Talk from Grammy Award-winning band Coldplay.  In a cross promotion deal between CBS and Capital Records, shortly after the scene airs and for a limited time, viewers will be able to purchase the same ringtone for their own cellphone. The hows and how muches of that process will be explained in a series of promotional messages that will run during the next commercial break.

* MORE GOOD STUFF *Producer Rome Hartman has been named the new Exec Producer of the CBS Evening News, effective January 9.  Hartman takes over for Jim Murphy who had been at the helm for the past six years.  Hartman hails from 60 Minutes where he had been Lesley’s Stahl’s exec prod for more than a decade. With that piece in place, the next question is who will be the long term anchor of the news program (Bob Schieffer is considered an “interim” anchor with no plans of sticking around). No answers yet.

The HorseTV Channel has a new series in development called Women & Horses.  The project is being developed with horse behaviorist, GaWaNi Pony Boy, and will be much of the same content you can find in his Women & Horses magazine, highlighting women’s involvement in the world of horses. This will be his second series on HorseTV, the first being The Simple Truth About Horses.

New York Giants running back Tiki Barber will be a contributor with additional frequency on Fox News’ morning show, Fox and Friends First.  Barber has been on the show several times, but will make it a more regular affair as of next Tuesday, appearing in the 6am hour.  That’s nice.  And yet, at this point in the football team’s season, I’d rather he focused a little more of his time on the field.

Following its announcement yesterday of three new series coming to the network in December, WE: Women’s Entertainment has now announced five more series for 2006, and one for 2007:

  • Two Funny: Cotter & Louise from Burrud Prods is a 30m series of 6 episodes that follows lives of comedians Kerrie Louise and Tom Cotter, who are are married, the parents of twin boys and work together while on tour.  This show will launch in March 2006.
  • John Edward Cross Country is from JECO Prods and focuses on psychic John Edward as he travels the country doing readings and visiting selected participants.  WE has ordered 8 episodes; the show is scheduled to debut in March.
  • Skating’s Next Star wonders what it really takes to be a world class figure skater.  This show moves from preliminary auditions to finals in 6 episodes. The project is from Major League Figure Skating.
  • Million Dollar Wedding is exactly as it sounds – a wedding on a million dollar plus budget.  From Film Garden, WE has ordered 6 episodes,
  • Rebel Gucci is all about Gemma Gucci, the heir to the Gucci fashion empire as she works on establishing herself in NYC as the queen of fashion and head of the Gucci fashion dynasty.  WE has ordered 13 episodes from BCII and plans to launch the show next October.
  • Hair Trauma! is set in a full-service salon in Manhattan.  Think the film Beauty Shop, but for real, with stylist Ellin LaVar at the helm.  Red Moxie is producing, and this series of 6 eps is looking at a March 2007 launch.

Correction : With all that said, a quick correction from yesterday’s story about WE: Women’s Entertainment‘s new series Race to the Altar.  The show is a production of NBC Studios, TWI and LMNO Productions.

Okay, I’m not saying any of you did it, but if you know who did, could you please ask the thief to return Gregory Peck’s star to the Hollywood Walk of Fame?  Thank you.

* NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *Spike has ordered up 26 hours of the remake of the age-less series World’s Most Amazing Videos.  Nash Entertainment exec produced and Stacey Keach hosted the original series in 1999 which aired on NBC, and both will be involved with the remake as well. Additionally, Spike has picked up the rights to the original 26 episodes. The new show is expected to launch this spring.

NBC has ordered a 6th season of Mark Burnett Prods.’s The Apprentice, and production of next season’s show with The Donald will move to Los Angeles. Thus far, all of the seasons have been based in New York.  If you’re interested in applying, check out either www.nbc.com or www.apprentice.yahoo.com to download an application and find out the casting call schedule.

If you’re wondering – while Fox‘s freshman series Prison Break had its season finale last Monday night, it will return to the schedule in March with all new episodes.  Phew.

Casting Call: Animal Planet is looking for a female host.  See if this sounds like you:  Do you love the outdoors and wildlife?  Do you have a passion for adventure?  Do you love the thought of traveling to unpredictable destinations?  Do you have a sense of humor?  Do you think you could be the best adventure host out there?  Yes?  Then you should probably get in on this gig.  Go to www.animalplanet.com, click on “casting call” in the lower right corner of the home page.  Good luck!

He will report to Tony Cardinale, VP/Program Research, Bravo.  In his new role, Joe will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing and communicating the performance of Bravo and its competition to management and programming departments through Nielsen ratings analysis.  Additionally, his analysis and evaluation of Bravo viewers will be used to guide the network’s program development, planning and acquisition processes.

Kristin Brown has been named VP/Communications for TLC.  She reports to David Leavy, EVP/Communications and Corporate Affairs, Discovery Communications.  In her new role, Kristin will oversee the TLC communications staff and be responsible for the development and implementation of the communications efforts supporting the network’s branding, positioning and programming.  She is also responsible for the execution of all of the network’s consumer and trade program publicity outreach.
