Jeff Gaspin expands his role with the company and advances to Chairman/NBC Universal Television Entertainment, effective immediately. This move will streamline all of NBCU’s television entertainment brands, broadcast and cable as well as English and Spanish, in one location.

ABC Family also announced it handed a new ten-episode order to its summer series Make It or Break It, taking the first season up to 20 total episodes. The 60m scripted original drama is about a group of teens involved in competitive gymnastics, with each hoping to make it to the Olympics. Make It or Break It airs Mondays at 9p and the ten new episodes are, for now, scheduled to run during first quarter 2010. The series, headlined by Peri Gilpin and Candace Cameron Bure, was created and written by Holly Sorensen who serves as executive producer along with Paul Stupin.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Head of NBC Entertainment Ben Silverman, whose Reveille production unit brought us hits such as The Office and Ugly Betty, is leaving to join IAC Chairman Barry Diller in a new online content production outfit following the launch of NBC’s new fall season. (The news came out of an IAC release and an NBC announcement expanding Jeff Gaspin’s duties to include oversight of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios.) The studio will look to achieve efficiencies in distribution, appeal to a broader base, as well as involve sponsors from the beginning of the creative process. NBC Universal will also continue to have a relationship with its former Entertainment co-chair, via platform partnerships and a potential future investment. Ryan Seacrest, who is close friends with Silverman, gave his fans a little preview of the story on Twitter early Monday, suggesting “household names” could be involved.   Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.
