Britain’s April 29 Royal Wedding broadcasting live and commercial free in the US via BBC America. The network will carry a direct simulcast of BBC One, the BBC’s top channel in the UK. Huw Edwards, an anchor for BBC One will lead the commentary for the telecast. This uninterrupted coverage of the royal nuptials comes after the network plans a week’s worth of royal programming including the original production, Royally Mad presented by Cat Deeley, documentaries centered on the Royals and three BBC World News America specials focused on the modern monarchy. BBC America also announced the addition of a new documentary, Prince William in Africa airing on April 24 at 2p. Furthermore, BBC Worldwide Channels announced BBC One’s feed of the wedding will be streamed live to the BBC Entertainment channels around the world in Asia, India, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East as well as broadcast on BBC Knowledge in Africa.
Independent studio Entertainment One (eOne) and HBO partnering with Philip Seymour Hoffman and his Cooper’s Town Productions on a new drama series titled Upstate. The plot centers on Roy Perkins as he moves his family to rural America to become a correctional officer in a new private, for-profit prison. eOne Television’s Michael Rosenberg and Cooper’s Town’s Hoffman and Emily Ziff serve as executive producers. eOne is also behind HBO’s comedy series Hung which was renewed for a third season and set to premiere this summer.
Beginning April 20, The CW shifts America’s Next Top Model back an hour to air at 9p on Wednesdays for the rest of its 16th cycle. This change occurs after the season finale of Shedding for the Wedding airs on April 13 at 9p. Prior to each Wednesday’s new Top Model episodes, the previous week’s Top Model episode will air on Wednesdays at 8p. The season finale of Top Model is scheduled for May 18.
Carson Daly takes on double-duty for NBC as the network renewed his half-hour late-night show, Last Call With Carson Daly through the 2011-2012 season produced by Universal Media Studios. Daly will also host NBC’s forthcoming singing competition series, The Voice opening April 26. Daly has headlined Last Call since the show’s inception in 2002.
On the heels of its first season finale on Wednesday, Syfy is renewing its special effects competition series Face Off for a sophomore season. Mission Control’s Dwight D. Smith and Michael Agbabian will continue as executive producers for the new run. Casting for trained and/or self-taught special effects make-up artists begins this month for the second season. Interested candidates can visit www.Syfy.com/faceoff to download the online application. During its first season, Face Off averaged 1.4 million total viewers and 897,000 A18-49 viewers.
Offering an insight into producing a fishing show is the theme of Sportsman Channel’s new docu-comedy series, Foul Hook’d premiering April 2 at 1030p during the network’s Strike & Set Saturdays. The show follows four inept guys producing a low-budget fishing show and their search for the right show host.
Discovery Channel’s experiment-filled series Mythbusters debuts all new episodes starting April 6 at 9p.
A new half-hour health, wellness and lifestyle program for families, Dr. Steve will debut on PIX11 (WPIX-TV) in New York next month. The show’s host, Dr. Steven Salvatore, a board certified Emergency Medicine physician who has been the health expert on PIX11 Morning News since 2005, will highlight multiple topics such as fitness and nutrition, children’s health, how to cook a nutritious meal and more. Dr. Steve will air on Sundays at 11a starting April 17. WPIX-TV is owned by Tribune Broadcasting.
MarVista Entertainment presents three new features at MIPTV that have just concluded production. The titles are Super Eruption, Xtinction: Predator X and A Christmas Kiss. MarVista also picked up the thriller Crash Site: A Family in Danger. These four new movies will premiere at MIPTV along with five other recent movie acquisitions.

Indomina Releasing, the distribution unit of The Indomina Group in North America made an exclusive multi-year distribution deal with Vivendi Entertainment encompassing home video, digital, online, television, VOD and mobile platforms. The agreement covers US and Canadian distribution of all Indomina Releasing titles through 2014.
Simon Cowell’s upcoming singing competition series, The X Factor on FOX may have hired the first of four judges. Record executive and music producer, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Chairman of Island Def Jam is close to finalizing a deal with the show, though neither FOX nor The X Factor is confirming the deal. The X Factor launches this fall and auditions will begin March 27 in Los Angeles.
Two new unscripted series are in the works for Spike TV:
- InkMasters – The network ordered six one-hour episodes of this first-time tattoo competition series where the nation’s top tattoo artists battle it out for a large cash prize and the title of “Ultimate InkMaster.” Production begins in May with a summer premiere planned. Original Media is producing.
- Car Boss – Spike TV okayed eight one-hour episodes showcasing auto dealership “doctor” Tom Stuker considered a legend in the car sales industry. In each episode, Stuker visits different car dealerships in financial difficulties and with his signature brash style, turns the business around to the positive. Production will commence this summer and the series will debut in 2012. Vem Miller created and developed the series in association with Vem’s Sweatshop Media with production from Ben Silverman’s studio Electus.
The CW’s one-hour comedy/drama pilot Hart of Dixie tapped Scott Porter to star opposite Rachel Bilson. The project, produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage centers on Zoe (Bilson) a young doctor from New York City who inherits a medical practice in a small Southern town. Porter will play a native of the small town who has an intense attraction to Zoe though is engaged to the daughter of Zoe’s chief rival at the medical practice.
- Lauren Cohan (Supernatural, Vampire Diaries) captured the female lead in CW’s supernatural-themed drama pilot Heavenly. Cohan will play Lily, a dedicated female attorney who teams with a former angel, Dashiel Coffee (Ben Aldridge) to take on cases at the law firm’s legal aid clinic.
- Ryan Eggold (90210) will also appear in CW’s drama pilot Heavenly playing a pastor whom the angel Dashiel seeks counsel from.
- Kevin Zegers (Gossip Girl) moves to ABC for the pilot Georgetown starring opposite Jimmy Wolk. Zegers plays Monty, a mega-rich young stockbroker from a well-connected family and an old rival of Andrew Pierce (Wolk), a brilliant Yale grad who is the youngest Presidential speech-writer ever.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: FOX hit #1 Tuesday night with a 3.1/9 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. FOX was in the right groove with Glee in first place during 8p at 4.2/13 followed by NBC’s The Biggest Loser at 2.5/8. For its second half, The Biggest Loser on NBC did best at 9p with 3.1/9 and CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles repeat was second at 2.2/6. Univision topped at 10p with Triunfo del Amor at 1.8/5 and NBC’s encore airing of America’s Next Great Restaurant was #2 at 1.6/5.
