09/05/07

Good Morning.  It’s Wednesday, September 5, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.

You’ve heard of movies and TV series getting a little marketing push in the virtual world Second Life, but here is the reverse. HBO has picked up a documentary completely shot and produced in the online site Second Life. The 35-minute doc, My Second Life: The Video Diaries of Molotov Alva follows the avatar director/producer Alva (aka director Douglas Gayeton) as he travels the Second Life world in search of its creator, and comes across many a colorful character on his way. The doc will be scheduled to air in 2008.

Tonight’s Premieres:
MNT:  Temptation at 8p
DIY Network: Backyard Stadiums at 10p

Tonight’s Finales:
HBO: Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Kansas City Chiefs at 10p

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

NBC Universal Television Stations and iVillage are presenting a new live interactive daytime talk show focused on women. In the Loop with iVillage begins September 17 on the NBC O&O stations and will air daily at noon. Formerly iVillage Live, the new show will be freshened up with a revamped look and edgier feel and have three hosts: actress/comedian Kim Coles, Bill Rancic who won The Apprentice during season one, and TV personality Ereka Vetrini. Tapping into the online community that comprises iVillage, the show will feature regular online contributors discussing a variety of subjects relevant to women. Viewers will have the chance to interact with the show through online polls, live chats and more. Broadcasting live in front of a studio audience at WMAQ/Chicago, the show is produced by NBC’s Peacock Productions.

FX will unveil season five of nip/tuck on October 30 at 10p. nip/tuck’s 14 episodes will be populated this season by a number of guest stars, including Oliver Platt, Lauren Hutton, Portia de Rossi, Tia Carrere and John Schneider. Additionally, Rose O’Donnell will reprise her season four role of lottery winner Dawn Budge and Leslie Grossman returns in her season one role as Bliss Berger. The series was created and is executive produced by Ryan Murphy and it is produced by The Shephard-Robin Company in association with Warner Bros. Television Productions Inc.

After debuting this past July, TBS ordered 10 new episodes of The Bill Engvall Show for season two. The comedy centers on Bill Pearson, a family counselor and his sometimes quirky family. The show is produced by TBS and was created by Engvall and Michael Leeson.

Better, the one-hour daily syndicated lifestyle show produced by the Meredith Corporation will premiere next Monday in twelve new markets. Currently the show airs on KPTV/Portland, OR, the Meredith Broadcasting Group Fox affiliate, and it will soon be seen on other Meredith-owned stations in Phoenix, Hartford, Nashville, Kansas City, Greenville, Las Vegas, Saginaw, Chattanooga and Springfield, in addition to three Journal Broadcast Group stations in Ft. Myers, Green Bay and Milwaukee. The show also airs online at www.better.tv , Meredith’s first broadband channel. Kimberly Maus will return as host of the show based on the West Coast, along with new host Audra Lowe who will anchor from Meredith’s New York City studio.

Whoopi kicked off her premiere episode of The View by doing what the ladies on The View do so well – create a scandal.   Taking the View that NFL star and now convicted dogfighting criminal Michael Vick’s action are part of his cultural upbringing seeing as he is from the “deep south”, sparked criticism from animal rights activists and the Humane Society of the US.  At least Donald Trump wasn’t mentioned.

The Martha Stewart Show is headed to primetime.  Repurposed episodes will air on Fine Living, one day after its syndication airing, and are scheduled to run at 8pm beginning next Monday, the 10th.  The first episode on the 10th will be a repeat from last season, and then Tuesday’s Fine Living airing will be the premiere episode of the current season.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Starz Entertainment has begun production on two original series, both premiering in January 2008:

  • Head Case – renewed for season two; new half-hour episodes focus on celebrity therapist Dr. Elizabeth Goode as she counsels stars from entertainment, sports and music. Casting for the new season is currently happening. The series is produced in association with UNCLE Film + Television.
  • Hollywood Residential – a single-camera 30m comedy series about a fictional celebrity home makeover show and its inept hosts who try to improve the homes of the famous. Special appearances throughout the season will include those from Paula Abdul, Jamie Kennedy, Chris Kattan, Carmen Electra and more. The series is produced in association with Principato-Young Entertainment.

Retirement Living TV, dedicated to folks over the age of 55, has signed a production agreement with AARP wherein a number of new series from the AARP will premiere on RLTV.  Additionally, RLTV will originate a number of its series from the AARP studios in Washington DC.
